...I had no idea this was a thing. LMAO Oh gosh. I love all the little hits in this one!
While I would have liked more major stages, mechanically speaking, New Pokemon Snap is exactly the kind of sequel I wanted. The on-rails nature allows the possibility for seeing entertaining scripted events, and the ability to keep trying until you get a pic you like. It also makes the game really chill and easy to pick up, which is nice sometimes. Not to say an open world Snap game wouldn't be good; just that doing it this way wasn't "wrong."
Open world games can have scripted events too
@@DoinItforNewCommTech It's hard to make sure the player approaches from the best angle to experience those events, though, and it would just feel weird returning to the location of a scripted event only for that exact same event to happen again for you to try and get a better shot from. This level-based system makes repeated events feel a bit less immersion-breaking.

It definitely hits hard, but it feels so true. They should just pass on the throne to Bandai Namco. They have far more experience than Gamefreak, and they even make the Digimon Games. Imagine a crossover between Pokemon and Digimon. It could be so good.

It is also not entirely true. The target audience (and thus difficulty of the games) seems to be getting younger (lower).
Also you have some special move things that make it even easier against opponents without them!
Seriously though. Good thing there are romhacks to do something about the difficulty.

This was a fraction as brutal as I thought it was going to be.
It's a great game IF you're trying to snap every pokemon, without looking online where they are. Keep the mystery, enjoy the fun.

That's actually a good point, what exactly was the reason?
Because nintendo either releases a new game in a series once a year or they release one game every 25 years. No inbetween
Because there really wasn't anywhere to go with the series. And it is a lot harder to hide when it is an on-rails photo shooter. Not a lot of decent one-shot mechanics you can give to that to pretend to look like progress.
It sold well on the N64 but not insanely well.

“Rule of thirds” and “Avatar of Your Lost Childhood”, I felt those.
As increasingly contentious as it has been becoming over the years in terms of how it might manipulate people from a marketing perspective, I can definitely see 'new Pokemon snap' having DLC content updates on a semi-regular basis
we alr had DLC for sword and shield, so ya... it isnt far off to think that's gonna be the case for any upcoming Pokemon games too including the new pokemon snap.
I'm looking forward to DLC, as long as the price is right. It felt like a finished and polished game, and the only thing missing were evolutions.

8 Years. The last one was the Friend Safari in XY. Which came out in 2013. So it's been 8 years

Are we just going to ignore the fact that rare, extremely rare, and even extinct pokémon are just sort of milling about commonly?
it was weird for me too... Aerodactyl, the plant one and the Ice one, oh and the tiranosaurus. I might excuse the plant one, as they are essentially anemones, as well as the one encased in ice. But the other two...
There's actually a canon explanation in the Sword and Shield dlc's Pokedex as to why there are so many fossil Pokemon running about.
That STARRING section was brutal.
_Pokémon Snap_ was good the first time around. I remember playing it at rental stores while family looked for tapes I wasn't interested in. For a few dollars the kiosk allowed for printouts of the images taken in-game.
Just do Dragon Age so I can start asking for Oblivion again.
0:39 As someone who never had an N64, but watched others playing Snap and appreciated it, I don't get the first comment below this post. I'm super excited about it, have been from the very first announcement. If the new Snap does the same thing like the old only in better graphics, I'm super happy already.

I feel like only Pokemon can pull off a game like Snap, if it were any other creatures that aren't as well known there would probably be a WHOLE lot less interest in the game. Kinda sad how they didn't even bother changing any mechanics but y'know gotta snap 'em all I guess. 🤷♀️

Personally I dont like that it forces me to move around I would have honestly liked a open world take your time kind of game. Like maybe with a hide feature to try and get images of pokemon doing things they wouldnt fo around humans. Or to climb trees to see things from diffrent angles.
The lack of free movement made me loose intrest in the game after a few days cause it was the same paths sorta. Over and over trying to get to the next level
My favorite aspect of this game's reception was how it got review bombed for being exactly what the game was marketed as being.

Yeah... I made it to the second island, where I realized that nostalgia wasn’t quite enough to carry the game.
But it's a good game? It's really well polished, variable enough. My husband never played the first and had fun, I played the first extensively as a kid and would have been super upset if they didn't have SOME nod to the first so when I saw the beach I was so delighted.

There were a lot of hidden easter eggs in the original where you had to figure out how to find legendaries and force evolutions out of some pokemon. Does this game have those mechanics in it as well?
