I got a 52 Super M, its stuck in first gear, I dont believe that's as serious as what you got going on their, good luck, you'll get it. I think these old Farmalls are worth restoring.... this is my 4th one.....
Jack up the left side of the rear end and turn the left rear wheel to see if there is something caught between the bowl gear and the case? Repeat for the right side too.Those ball bearing used in the axle/differencal were too thick to clear the case at the bottom. I saw a lot of the cases broke that way.
Just did a m tranny go to red power forum, look under restoration , search rebuild m transmission, sure name dell. I did a 1939 m. 39 and some 40 are the same. be care full ordering . the 39 and some 40 have different parts , the s/n will tell the story.

I've seen that before too. Luckily that wasn't the case here. Bearings on the countershaft are seized up
Or the hydraulic pump is "stuck" if it has one.
