Thank you for giving a step-by-step. I finally found my issue. It kept popping up Range Shift Inhibited!!
Thanks for watching
Transmissions are out of bounds for repairs because they are so mysterious, Kevin, you remove that mystery… I have a diesel pusher but i still watched both of your videos about Allison transmissions, thanks for the information,Frank
Thank you for the kind words Frank
This is very well done, appreciate ALL the little important details, VERY helpful. Thanks
Great job and detail. Best I’ve seen on utube. Thank you for sharing and not playing music, just detail and how to do this. Second to none.👍🏻
Thank you for the kind words.. did you get yours fixed?
I was having issues with my transmission going into limp mode as I would do a heavier acceleration. I removed the connector as I saw some oil leaking from the plug and cleaned it. This resolved my issue. I was thinking I was going to need a trans because it would slip.
Looking at this video to see how to replace the plug. Good info thanks 👍
Thanks for contributing
I'm have the same problem with my truck and was wondering if you were able to figure it out I have replaced a bunch of things and still haven't figured it out
Looks like my next fix under the
Boat . Thanks for showing me the bandage that got us to Canada and back . Hope we can get up to visit y’all. 🖖
Glad to have been of service stop by anytime we got 50 amps ready for you.
Gotta check our RVs. Thanks for sharing, Kevin.👍
Thanks Kevin
I live in Australia and have a 2500 2009 model silverado that I,m have some trouble with at the moment with the transmission your video explained a few good things I can look for as mine also has Shift inhibited come up on the dash and also my plug is leaking oil , I drove out my driveway went to shift to drive it wouldn't go any where forward or reverse
so thank you once again
Dave
Thanks for leaving a comment have a blessed day
So this fixed your truck?
Another outstanding video with perfect timing! Thanks for your assistance with the missing CATs!
Your very welcome my friend
@@ktoutdoor this. Arnés. Works. For 2002 2500 HD 6.6
Another Pro Tip from me. For Allison parts, filters, TES-295 Approved oil etc, always call some local big rig dealers. ie, spin on filters are usually 8-9 bucks, most stuff is 1/2 price or less than car dealers.
Thanks again GT
@@ktoutdoor Near me there is a ton of Mack, Kenworth, and Peterbuilt, Volvo big rig repair shops. Mobil 1 Allison Approved TES 295 full synth fluid was 35.90 a gallon last summer. Was 31.50 a few years prior. I got 6 Red OEM filters for 8.15 each. I'm sure more now, but those Allison places buy this stuff in huge amounts. I got a neutral safety switch, the thing on the side of trans for 1/2 of the dealer. OEM Allison Part too.
Hola kevin,Kevin, motor y esa transmisión es la misma del chevi 3500 2003,yo pido las piezas por esa camioneta y me sale mucho más barato, tengo National Dolphin 2003 w22 8.1 l con una Allison 1000
Thank you for the tips and tricks.
very descriptive and detailed thank you for taking the time and sharing
i had a question about refilling the transmission fluid.
The shop i had my allison fluid and filter replaced at told me it had to be pressure filled? and that i needed a special machine/pump to do the job
did you encounter this?
is there something outside of your very descriptive video we as do it ourselfers need to know in that regards?
thanks JB
There is no need to pressure fill. Should take 2 or 3 gallons to refill. Start run through gears, then rechrck oil level while idling
I have a Allison 1000 an 8.1 liter in my 2002 GMC Sierra 2500HD .thank you I really enjoyed this video
Thanks for watching!
Thank you! God bless you !
Thank you for taking the time to do this video. I've been working on an Allison 1000 / Duramax that will not shift into any of the forward gears for weeks now and there were several pieces of information that you shared that I've not seen anywhere else and I believe will further me in finding what is wrong in my situation. c(_)
Let me know what the final fix is.
Great video. Very helpful and thanks for sharing.
Super informative video. Good job.
Thank you
They actually have a new fluid called Transynd and it’s their newest fluid that has much better anti wear properties!
Your the Best luv the walk through👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks for watching
Very informative video thank you!
Thanks for watching.
Awesome video 👍🏼
That filter looks great to me for 70k! Allison actually says the internal filter shouldn’t be charged until a rebuild is done.
I read that also but my local Allison Trans tech said if it was his RV he would change the internal filter every 75,000 at that time you can also look inside for any metal or clutch material.
Hey Kevin ✌🏻 The transmission light came on the dashboard because you changed the hardness or did you already have the transmission light on before?
Correct I had no light I changed harness when I saw the oil leak. At some point I may have started the engine with the wire unplugged. All has been good ever sense
ok thanks for the information...I have a Hino 268 truck now there is no communication with the transmission mechanically there is no problem, the mechanic says it has to be an electrical problem
This is absolutely stupid on Allison's part! Why aren't there codes on the plug or in an owners manual etc. To pull the pan to inspect what hardware is inside isn't at all competent from any mfg. The cost of having a Dealer do this would shatter any trust the customer would have for the product. Allision should be smarter then this. There is no reason that documentation couldn't explain the internal hardware in a piece of equipment like this.
I concur they don't make it easy. Thats why I made this video.
I’ve got a 2018 GMC Sierra the wiring harness is bad in it and they want to charge me $1100 to fix this
Thanks!
Thank you Richard have a blessed day.
Kevin, great info. Do you have the source of the parts, diagrams, etc., that you're showing in the video? If they're your own files, can I email you and get a copy of them? Also, I didn't hear you mention replacing the transmission pan gasket...was that necessary to do? Thanks.
Text me at 606-875-0125 Kevin
Nice video Kevin, thank you!
How did you get the stuck gasket out from your filter?
I used the handle of a pair of pliers that was coated in rubber. Anything strong that won't scratch the soft aluminum.
What’s the name of the outside connector that plugs into that internal pass through connector seal? I’ve been looking literally for three hours and can’t find it, thanks a million if you would know.
Do you mean the female half of the connector? I would assume its part of the wiring harness? What has happened to yours?
@@ktoutdoor yeah it’s the wiring harness , it’s old and I’m having problems with something, thought I’d replace everything I personally could, the nsbu switch, wiring over to that bulkhead plug, the new pass through connector seal, the solenoid feed filter you mentioned in this video, new internal filter and possibly the internal wiring harness. I almost got stranded way out in the Cherokee national forest here in Tennessee a couple days ago, the truck wouldn’t go in gear at all and the dash said “trans shift inhibited “ I waited an hour and it finally started, it’s an 03 GMC Sierra 2500hd lb7 duramax Allison 1000. If you’ve got a better idea about my problem I’d definitely pay you somehow, I can’t trust my local rob shops anymore after a couple stunts they tried to play on me, I’ve never been rich, and definitely not a mechanic but a couple years ago my head gaskets failed and the diesel shops wanted $7000 to fix it! I bought a Haynes manual and between that and UA-cam, I did the job myself and it’s held up great! (Knock on wood). This is the first time I’ve ever had a problem from my trans and I’m scared to tell the truth, I’m too broke for a new transmission, especially since the old truck probably isn’t worth much…..saying that, I love her lol, bought her new in 03 and my daughters were raised in that truck traveling around, they were babies when I bought it, now the youngest just finished her bachelor’s degree and paying for their schooling as done my bank account no good! If you could possibly tell me the name of the outside, exterior wiring harness and maybe a head start on where I could get it, I honestly couldn’t tell you how much I’d appreciate it. I’d rather spend $1000 on parts and get them all than have my local stealership rob me and fix it for a week. I’m really sorry about my rant but man I’d love some advice from someone like you that knows about these things. Thanks man.
Give me a call tomorrow 606-875-0125 Kevin
I have a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta with this same issue. I drove it now it doesn't go. The car starts but doesn't go into gear. How do I fix this.
Sorry i don't have any experience working on Volkswagen's
The arnés fit. At 2002 2500 HD 6.6 ??
When re installing the electrical plug back into and through the trans case does it just slide easily back into place and the collar of keepers just click in or is it a battle to keep it from pushing back out toward the inboard side. I am having difficulty getting the plug to click back into place. Note I changed the o ring but it is slightly thicker, will this cause the problem I’m experiencing?
Thank you!

Were you getting any transmission error as check engine code or any shifting issue ?
No not yet but it looked like mine was has just started leaking. Just being proactive not reactive..lol and not on the road and broke down.
Kevin GREAT videos, do you have a face book page?
Yes facebook.com/kevin.caudill.35

Can i just replace the oring on the connector? Or do I need the whole harness
The whole harness, the oil leaks past the pins in the connector
@@ktoutdoor thanks for the reply! I ordered the harness and should be here in a few days
How does oil on the outside connector cause problems, but the wires that are inside the trans work all day in oil and don't cause problems ?
Trying diag my truck I do have oil in the pass through connector
It creates a loose connection when the oil gets between the contacts just for a second and it throws a error code. You may try cleaning with MAP sensor cleaner let it dry then but back together it may work for a while.
Hi Kevin can you share the part # please I have a 2005 2500hd i call the dealership and for some reason they don't found the part # they said they have to contact alisson company or something like that
Does this help?

But not all the time if I hit a big bump or might drive fine
Have you removed the connector to see if you have oil in it?
My allison won't let me go over 38 mph code p0776 I think it s the harness connection as well
Very likely,, I'm getting more calls all the time as these RV's get older.
@Kevin Caudill I replaced b solenoid valve trim and harness an my truck still won't go over 38 mph sometimes winter go over 15 mph sometimes won't go out of neutral please help
