This shows just the kind of guy Glen Campbell was. He's the star, it's his show, but he just played rhythm and let Carl take the spotlight! That's class!!

I owned a string instrument shop in Louisville, MS for many years. Anytime Carl Jackson was in town, he would stop by to try out any new banjos and guitars and chat a long while with the locals who were there to shop. However few people know how talented a luthier his daddy was! He could repair and make just about any instrument on the planet! Both of Carl's parents were so well liked in our community. They raised such a fine son ❤️
Carl Jackson....Marty Stuart....all school days friends of mine I am proud to say. Carl auditioned for Campbell at a concert we both attended in Meridian , MISSISSIPPI in 1970 or so. Carl graduated high school in 1971...I in 1970 in Louisville,MS. Carl replaced John Hartford in Campbell's touring band .Carl turned me on to the country rock BYRDS and the fusions of that style music. Carl and Marty were also school time buddies who played the county fair many times ...opening acts and alongside FLATS and Scuggs and many others that came through Louisville ,MISSISSIPPI in those days. In later years Carl was producing for Sugarhill Records and Stuart was with John Cash. Carl's Dad...Lethal Jackson owned a music store for a time in 1970s also. Visited with Carl and Marty at that time and in that place at that time. GREAT DAYS!!
Cool, I wish they had programs on today like this where you could see great live performances every week. I was just a kid when Glen's show was on, thanks to UA-cam we can still see and hear these great musicians.
Louisville, Mississippi, my hometown! The greatest small town in the world! Carl is such an incredible musician! We always look forward to his Homecoming Concert in Louisville every December. Just a great guy!
I saw Glen with Carl in the Autumn of 1973 when touring the U.K. when my parents dragged me along as a reluctant 15 1/2 year old to a concert. I'm so glad they did, sitting two rows back in the Central Hall Chatham I fell a little bit in love with Carl Jackson lol....They were both brilliant and I've loved Glens music ever since.
That's great Chrissy! Carl Jackson is producing Glen's new album coming out next week, and he's a member of the GC Fan Forum. You should join if you like! facebook.com/groups/GlenCampbell/
So cool. I only heard if Carl from Larry's Country Diner recently when he introduced many of us to The Church Sisters. Had no idea he was such a talented banjo-ist! Wow!!!
Earl Scruggs was a great, legendary banjo player and I loved hearing him play this song, but Carl Jackson could play a banjo just as good as Earl, and at only 19 years old. Carl you're a Master. A legend playing with a legend. Outstanding performance Carl.
Wow! I just watched a video of Carl with Ashley Campbell, performing Gentle on My Mind. In the Foggy Bottom video Carl had wavey hair. In the video with Ashley, his hair had waved goodbye. Both videos showcase his awesome talent !
This is fantastic!! I'm not a fan of country music but I love this and well, Glen Campbell has been a fave since childhood. Killer bassist too. Thanks for sharing. :)))))
Obviously Carl is a fabulous banjo player and if Glen said he was the best he's ever heard anywhere in the world...you can bank on that being true. Isn't Glen just a great person...here is this big star allowing this youngster to take the spotlight and Glen is playing accompaniment like a side man. Besides that Glen just seems to be reveling in the delight of this musical performance and sincerely enjoying it himself. Very honest and sincere love for music with no ego and no attitude...Glen is just a great May GOD bless him forever
He may have done the most to mainstream country--made people say things like "oh, THAT is country", helped do away with silly stereotypes of the musical form.
Glenn was a very underrated guitarist until the last 12-15 years when a new generation of fans discovered his music and gave him a resurgence in popularity.

Carl lives in Nashville and prior to the pandemic could be seen at The Station Inn in Nashville every Monday night playing and singing with other musicians. No word on when those shows will start up again. There are many youtube videos of him playing there.
A VERY successful bluegrass song writer/guitar player…and occasionally banjo picker. You can catch him at The Station Inn in Nashville from time to time. Great guy!

Thank you ma'am for that fantastic comment!.. God bless.
Yes, they did, Katharine! Thank you! I will let Carl know..I grew up in Louisville, as well...He and I will discuss it!!! :o)
I was 19 in '73, too. What a life of music I experienced. Thank heaven i have ears.

Man Carl Jackson is a machine!
agree but so fast the music cant breathe.
@@daanje1062 don’t be silly.
That was mind-blowingingly good...
Blazing fast pace, every note rings, simply amazing.
Campbell, a great picker himself, sits back and plays support to this super picker. Class.
Campbell a great picker? He is probably number 4 when it comes to country guitarist so he is a super picker
Love, love, love it! I could watch these two all day.
Louisville, Mississippi, my hometown! The greatest small town in the world! Carl is such an incredible musician! We always look forward to his Homecoming Concert in Louisville every December. Just a great guy!
How could anyone not like this??
"What are you going to play son? Love that.
This is what I call good old country music.

Hi, Thanks for the memories, what an amazing life and pleasure he gave to Millions of us over the years. Colleen and Gavin. Western Australia.
Carl has a great banjo sound!
Wow. Can't say much more. Cheers from New Zealand.
Earl Scruggs is the Bach of banjo. He wrote the Book. Thus is a great version. Glenn is a true legend.
So cool. I only heard if Carl from Larry's Country Diner recently when he introduced many of us to The Church Sisters. Had no idea he was such a talented banjo-ist! Wow!!!
Carl Jackson....The Professor!

More than class, I think this was a saintly deed, during a holy few moments!
speechless this is fantastic.

A few moments from television's golden era.
Just absolutely marvellous. x
That was fantastic, Earl would be proud.
He may have done the most to mainstream country--made people say things like "oh, THAT is country", helped do away with silly stereotypes of the musical form.
Best version. Quick and perfect. Only banjo. And it,s totally enough.
So cool to see Carl collaborating with Glen's daughter Ashely.
Great playing Carl good stuff
Glenn was a very underrated guitarist until the last 12-15 years when a new generation of fans discovered his music and gave him a resurgence in popularity.

Impressive job. 😊
Geez he sounded like 33 played on 78 speed!
Wonderful!!!
AMAZING !!!!!!!!!
Now I fully understand why Glen's daughter plays music with Carl Jackson. Her was a genius and a good friend of the family Campbell.
chaque fois que je l' écoute, je suis toujours subjugué
If these two kids keep it up they could really go somewhere.
Toma tu like buen hombre 👍
Earl Scruggs would be proud.
First - who knew Steve Jobs knew how to play banjo - second I think I did see his fingers leave his hands.
Bahaha! Now that’s funny!
Hey Chris turner ,Matlock ,you listening to this. Spike
I wonder if Carl played on Southern Nights
He sure did! on the studio recording.

Carl Jackson ... it’s Aug 2020, where are you living, Sir? And where are you playing?

Glen Campbell and Carl Jackson are both amazing musicians but play the video again and listen to the bass player. He's dynamite.
Seemed like a great reason to listen again and yup, he owned that base 🎸...... The gig was awesome. I envy those days so much 🤗
Dear Lord! ❤
Good.
Wow what a great Banjo-ist
What make and model guitar is Glen playing?
I think this was the first song which Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs used three finger picking. It revolutionized the music of banjos.
Wow!
Who's on bass?
+Eric Schassberger Bill C Graham, who was a member of Glen's band from 1967 to 1976.
really good.
Is that Bob Feltz on the drum?
yes, it sure is.
Dang the bass player stayd with the beat never lost it right to the end ..Carl Jackson no doubt learnt a lot from his Mentor Glen Campbell
Carl sure can pick that banjo❤❤❤
That man was born playing the banjo.
And to think that Carl is PRIMARILY a guitar player.
RIP GC
Awesome
Strike it up...
The original recording in 1949 by Flatt & Scruggs was played at that speed ....! They slowed it down a bit for the movie...!
That was just nucking futs! We all know Glenn can play, but, wow! That kid was awesome!!! Whatever happened to Carl?
Carl is alive and well and living in Nashville. website is carljackson.net
A VERY successful bluegrass song writer/guitar player…and occasionally banjo picker. You can catch him at The Station Inn in Nashville from time to time. Great guy!
A really one page of America.
Is that Tom Petty behind them on bass?
Sí, toca muy rápido, pero la canción no se disfruta. La versión que toca Roy Clark también es muy rápida pero sin pasarse.
