This is so sad 😭 Imagine striving so hard to be the best at what you love, and finally getting the recognition you deserve, then getting killed in an accident OMG! 😰 What a waste! Then another member in the band dying the same way at the same age 13 months later! 💔 Just makes you wonder why life can be so unfair sometimes that's all 😓

I saw the band three times with Duane, once in a small club in Richmond, Va. It was an epiphany, it inspired me to pursue a jazz career, because they were so much more than a rock band.

i've had a deep appreciation for music since i can remember. including everything from little rascals music to la boheme, the blue danube and stars and stripes forever !! the older i get the less i apply the term "the best". HOWEVER, i truly believe there is one exception !! that being DUANE. his energy, tone, approach and structure in my opinion are simply unequaled ! accomplished without the aid of any sound altering devices, finger to fretboard and fretboard to amp. a true purist !

Duane and Dickey are the reason I own my '70 Black Les Paul Custom. Once I heard Fillmore East in '71 at the age of 17, I went on pursuit for a Les Paul. That record had so many scratches from my lifting the arm and setting back on some riffs I wanted to practice. It's an understatement to say both Duane and Dickey influenced my tone and my playing style. RIP to all ABB members gone before us. Dickey and Jaimoe are the only 2 remaining OO's.

No one gets close to him in my opinion but Derek Trucks is a close second.

The tragic part of his death was that he had just bought a new motorcycle helmet, and cut the straps out of it, telling the HD dealer "Groover, I hate a helmet".
You can see Groover tell the story himself, just search for him in you tube. Barry refused to go to the hospital, but at that time, not sure it would have mattered much.
And I get to drive those intersections more than a few times, every month... Think about them every time.

Bikes are cool and everything and in a perfect world with no other traffic or in rural areas they may not be too bad but tits not worth it in my eyes. Any accident is likely to have devastating effects and there are just too many distracted drivers. It kinda seems like Duane may have been at fault in his own accident which makes it all the more tragic

Duane did NOT impact the truck or any part of the truck. The truck was not in the middle of the intersection. Duane came over the crest of the hill leading up to the intersection. He became airborne, as he did quite often, and when he landed, the front wheel turned on him. Duane flew over the handle bars and fell to the pavement. The motorcycle bounced up in the air and landed on Duane. Duane was not pinned underneath the motorcycle. Duane did not slide along the pavement for another 90 feet. In fact, there were really no visible injuries on Duane. All the damage was internal. That caused massive internal injuries and Duane could not survive. The police did NOT fault the driver of the truck at all. They concluded that the truck had already made it through the intersection. That is what happened.
