The fact that Eddie was 20, 21 when he came up with these approaches that had really not been done before, is the reason why we still talk about and admire his genius. R.I.P. King Eddie, and thank you for it all. Great channel Marty, and thank you as well.
Thank you. You have a nice easy going approach in showing, and explaining. Make it easy to pick it up, instead of having fingers covering chosen frets like others, and wanting to go back to play by ear.
I remember learning this 30+ years ago. I still have my notebook with the hand written tab. Now I can relive those lessons through the man Marty! Awesome channel!
It's so sad that we're never going to hear his genius. Ever again. It's Prashant Halen song I ever heard I was 12 years old. I can still feel the excitement could I get the first time I heard it. And then I get a lump in my throat. He was blessed with a gift from God. He just made you feel good when he played. It's not a long journey from the Cradle to the Grave. We better all enjoy everyday we're given
Guitar Genius for sure !!!! EVH along with Nokie Edwards, Chet Atkins and a few select others really set the mold for guitar playing. Vito Bratta was another that was a complete guitar genius probably the best at what he did. This video is probably the best instructional video I've ever seen for this song !!!! Thank you so much.
Hi Marty, your Channel is fantastic for learning and discovering again Van Halen. Go on this way. Many thanks for the greetings: nice holidays to you too! 👋
Thank you Marty for this amazing video. We all miss EVH and nothing better than learning with you how to play their best songs. Best regards from Argentina
Wow I wish I had UA-cam back in the 80’s! Going to pick up the guitar and follow your jam on this one. Well done and an easier vh tune - but it truly captures his style and I thank you for that.
Awesome, thanks .. new subscriber for sure. Tuning in the record 1/2 step down to E flat? Also, did I miss the part where you show "ooh baby baby won't you turn your head my way" part??
Marty have you ever done humans being it's my favorite VANHALEN song everything he does is in this song and the wicked octave climb at the end outstanding Edju
Nice little lesson. as a side note, I started taking a shot every time you try to get your hair out of the way. 7 minutes in... I am buzzing. Thanks for both the lesson and the buzz. Now, off to the woodshed!
One of the best Van Halen songs imo . He had such a great touch and with all those little nuances Eddie added so much magic so his playing & even simple riffs came alive . Great lesson .!
Ironically, he and Al kinda hated this song. They've said in interviews that the idea for the song was MUCH different than what it ended up being. Ted kinda steered it in this direction. Both Ed and Al's attitude towards it became, "Eh. It just is what it is." I think Al's quote was, "Let's play it faster so it'll be over sooner." 😂 The brothers, man.
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker That's part of the genius of the brothers. They could take something that maybe wasn't so great an idea and still turn it into "Van Halen".
I loved how Eddie could just the sound he needed a lot of the time just putting the guitar through a stack and using his volume knob & pick attack to get a cleaner sound. I often approached playing live like this. My amp & my channel switch, with a dual drive head. I always tried to approach things with a keep it simple stupid approach to my guitar rig/ guitar parts I wrote. Sometimes its not what you play, but what you don't. Serve the song. Another great lesson bro.
I'm totally digging the guitar Marty. I have a white left-handed Charvel So-Cal that I've thought about getting a paint job on that's kinda stealthy. I would do a dark gray body with black stripes, and maybe an ebony fretboard. I'd love to have an old Beretta headstock too. In my mind it looks cool
Can't wait til the Black and yellow gets here, then I'll have 2 guitars.I keep my wolfgang standard in flat tuning.I'm gonna keep the bumble bee in standard so I don't have to be retuning all the time. It's got the d tuna also. It's got a couple of dings so i'm getting a great deal on it,or I wouldn't be able to get it.Knocking almost 400.00 off. Thanks for teaching this song Marty, one of my favs 4 shure.Seen em in Raleigh N.C. 1979 when it came out. They opened for Boston.Great show.
Hey Marty, in this video I believe your the first person to nail it correctly. Your correct saying that Eddie was always changing up is music from original. As Eddie had said it’s all about the feeling. Great job!!
Thank you so much! I appreciate the feedback and for the comment. Eddie had a balance between technique and feel. He grew up listening to old school feel players and interpreted it the way he thought was right and relied on his instincts and musicality. That was the catalyst to the development of his “sound”. I think that’s why he adapted and modified stuff so much. You kind of have to approach his stuff with that mindset. (I think)
sice a few days i watching your Videos, and i really like the art of how you explain and show the different problems and riffs. Thank you very much. Would be great to know how you reach your heavy sounding sounds. also for the Def leppard Videos.
True man. Eddie’s stuff was great but the foundation made it spectacular. In my opinion that’s why so many metal and rock bands from this era fell flat or didn’t have staying power. It’s all the ingredients. Not just one guy. Thanks for the comment! 😎
Marty, in few words, let me tell you and with all my pleasure, that you have a great way to teach, considering the technical way of teaching but also the ability you have got, probably over the years, but I am also sure that being a teacher is something that belongs to our own DNA, those skills that a great teacher needs to pass his passion and knowledge to his students. Thanks and all the best! CIRO ✌🏻🍻😉
