The fact that they swapped actresses after the first appearance, while probably not an intentional part of the joke and probably just a casting issue, is hilarious, it's like she's so forgettable that no one even noticed the change.
Not sure if this is true but I heard that the original idea for Ann was to have her character be played by a different actress each episode. However, the Ann we got did such a good job at acting the role that they decided to keep her on permanently.
They literally went through with this but the second time she appeared she was so good they just kept her. Her first appearance is a different actress, it’s hilarious
The cast of this show is perfection. You hear how certain people turn down roles (not saying anyone did for this show), and in hindsight, you couldn't imagine anyone else playing that role.
The funniest thing about Ann is that even though I've seen every episode of arrested development, I don't remember her at all. I don't remember a single one of these scenes.
In Arrested Development, Mae Whitman plays Michael Cera’s girlfriend. In Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Mae Whitman plays Michael Cera’s girlfriend’s ex-girlfriend.
Although not intentional, I always felt that George Michael's commitment to Ann was largley in part due to the fact that she "changed here appearance" from the first time they met; he remembers being swept off his feet by someone, but he couldn't remember what she looked like. He just so happened to find an equally boring girl, also named Ann, who just so happened to fit his vague outline of the shape of the girl he first met. His guilt made him stick to this second Ann, which is why he's so determined not to break up with her and ensure everyone else remembers her in case he forgets again. A lot of unneccessary backstory and just my idea, but I always felt like this was part of the joke.
Might not be able to pick out her face from a line up of one, but any self respecting anime watcher will pick out her voice right away. And even plenty of non-anime watchers who just happen to like that one show. You all know the one!
I've read/heard that the original idea for 'Ann' was that it'd be a different actress in every episode she appeared. They quickly gave the role to Mae Whitman though
The way Michael insists he can knock her over, as if he would hit her with all his might if he had the opportunity.
The fact that they swapped actresses after the first appearance, while probably not an intentional part of the joke and probably just a casting issue, is hilarious, it's like she's so forgettable that no one even noticed the change.
Wait, what?
I think she was actually meant to be a different actress in each episode. But I'm glad they stuck with Mae because she was great as Egg
It was intentional. They were going to do that every episode. I love Mae Whitman but I kinda wish they had done it
AFAIK Ann was supposed to be played by different actresses every appearance but they liked Mae Whitman's performance too much so they kept her
Mae Whitman nailed the performance. She is the one and only Egg
The OG Ann was too obviously acting. Real Egg was born for the role.
Who?
She was also _far_ too pretty.

Mae's such a great actress. So much fun. Among MANY other things, she was the little girl whose leg Ross broke on Friends.
