  • An operation to round up 93 semi-feral highland type ponies in the North East of Scotland has been hailed a success. The operation called on the skills of World Horse Welfare Staff alongside volunteers from Horseback UK, The Royal Marines and the staff and students of The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies.

Gelding is much more common in the States , and in my experience gives them such relief from frantic mating urges, and they're able to enjoy being ridden and living in groups. They are just more calm, loving and able to focus, and make wonderful riding horses. We do normally give pain meds for a few days afterwards, but recovery is fast. BTW, I'd like to praise your Scottish cowboys, every bit as good as from Montana !

A very well planned and humane operation on such a large piece of land. Great job and praise for all who volunteered to help. My heart always hurts when I see the terrible and mostly inhumane "roundups" of the wild horses in my nation , the US. I am ashamed at the way it is done, and just as ashamed that afterwards they are left in holding corrals for very long periods of time, yes they get hay but not much of anything else. Many who work in this "industry" are not nice people, and abuse the animals and care nothing except for the pay check they get. Here in the US we are now seeing more organizations that are doing the good work of rescuing horses from all sorts of horrible situations, including the slaughter pipeline of auction after auction of unwanted, old, sick and injured horses. It is supposed to be illegal to ship horses out of the US to be slaughtered but there is NO ONE minding that store for sure! Horse Plus Humane Society based in Tennessee is doing an awesome job, and they are mentoring and granting monies to other smaller rescues nationwide. They mainly go to auctions and take as many as they can buy each month. Some have to be given the last act of kindness as they are not in any shape to be transported, some get to the facility at Horse Plus and when examined are found to have medical issues that cannot be fixed and they are given the last act of kindness there with loving staff giving them the last best day . If you are in the UK and follow World Horse Welfare, check out Horse Plus Humane Society, they are on u tube, facebook, and their own site.

Wow! I am impressed at the amazing work you do. I have been watching several of your videos. I loved watching this video how you give each horse the best of care. I loved how you worked as a team so professionally bringing in the Royal Marines to help, incredible effort. Some right beauties in that herd, they're all beautiful and deserve the best of care. Some people might think you are being very rough, especially with the horse that kicked off, but a frightened horse that's out of control is a dangerous horse, especially in that situation and you know how to handle it, I am full of admiration.

Horse vets have a saying about gelding horses; "Take away the balls and the brains comes back."
It's very true, they'll be very sore, but work with the horse, train him and in about 6 months the horse will be significantly calmer. You'll have cheaper insurance and a reduced risk of the horse suffering from all of those nasty conditions like testicular tumours that males of species can get.

Those were some lovely horses. So nice that the owner knew who to call before things got further out of hand.

Your wild horse round up is very good taking consideration of their need to be treated with patience, and gentleness, and resting when needed... UNLIKE the brutal, terrifying roundups they do in the US - scaring the horses almost to death with helicopters, and running them hard for 10 or 20 miles, then cramming them tightly into pens with no chance to rest or have water or food. Terror makes some lunge for freedom and break their necks. And the workers keep scaring them, even while they die.

Not a crime if you're in failing health. The owner reached out and that's what counts
