Juan, You did a great job. I'm 73 and a native Houstonian, retired to Lake Geneva, WI. Growing up in Houston our grade-school was Texas history required studies. An hour every day. Also look into Freedmen Town as you research our early history. Keep it up.
So glad this showed up in my UA-cam feed! I love my city. I actually grew up in Cinco Ranch as well, went to CRHS! Moved into the city when I went to UH and settled down here with my family inside the loop. We knew this city was our home.
I've lived in Houston all but the first 2.5 years of my life and a couple of years ago, wanted to actually dive into the history out of curiosity. I stumbled upon a wealth of books from Central library that featured some of the earliest photos of the city. You have to hand it to the Allen brothers who sold what was in reality a muddy swamp to their rich well to do friends and business partners as this glorious city where riches awaited with sparkling water and glorious lands, and of course then having invested and committed to moving to Houston, they found out the reality! And yet, here we all are today. Very nice summary/video.
GREAT JOB, JUAN! I travel a lot and have met a lot of people with very outdated ideas about our great city. Then, they come here and generally are awestruck at our magnificent commercial emporium! "WOW! I never knew... ... " 😎👍🏻
Thanks so much for watching! I really appreciate it and yes! I agree...Houston is awesome and it definitely isn't as well known around the world as it should be
I lived in Houston for 2 years growing up (originally from England). Thank you very much indeed for this amazing video! As a history buff it’s very well explained, and I’ve loved hearing of the history of one of the cities closest to my heart 😊
Thanks so much for watching! I am glad you enjoyed the video. Houston is so multicultural. It is awesome seeing how many people from so many different places have lived here!
I moved to Houston in 1983 from the Chicago area. I lived in the Clear Lake area, until moving into Cinco Ranch in 1999. My Son is into photographing the Houston downtown sky line and has some a amazing pictures, if you would like to see a few let me know.
Dope video!! You should do the history of certain neighborhoods for example Northline, all 6 Wards, Greenspoint , Aldine etc. That would be cool too. Saludos bro 🇲🇽🔥
I’ve learned alot about Allens Landing, and always been interested in learning more about the the mother of Houston, but ill admit now I want to research Harrisburg and the beginning
That’s so strange you would say that Babylon on the bayou. That phrase would always enter my mind when I would enter Houston from I45 heading south where it is painted BE SOMEONE on the over pass.
@@juanfernino I always thought some one should have painted Babylon on the Bayou instead of BE SOMEONE but its still cool... last time I went back to Houston I saw someone messed that up by putting the words BE SOMEONE ELSE, which was depressing . Anyway, Thanks for responding, Peace coming from a small town in south Louisiana.
No Mention of the Massive skyline and no views of Uptown The TMC Greenway Plaza West Lake only out- dated views of the small side of Downtown? ((PLEASE FIX THIS))! 99 and a half won't do 💯✅! Also Houston's economy is 30th Largest in the world if it were a country. You can fit NYC and others inside it, and it's bigger than most New England states.

I wish houston had a little more western history like you have in west texas and Arizona it’s pretty much all business through out it’s life. There is the battle of San Jacinto that is all I know of
Why would we have western history? We’re a southern city. We have the battleship of Texas by San Jac as you mentioned (the monument is taller than the Washington monument in DC) and a whole different culture and history than west Texas.
