Hey friends! I’ve seen lots of questions around the monitor arm, so I’ve shared it all below:

Thank you for taking the time to create this video. I am commenting because I think (not positive) that at the end, you say that LG gifted you the monitor. I do believe that this should be at the start of the video and that it should be clear to the audience. While you may not call it a review, the commenters are calling it a review and it follows a review format. Thank you 🙏

At long last, you've ascended beyond Ultrawide master race. Haha but for real, your other video a year ago convinced me to buy a 21:9 ultrawide monitor, now I also want to buy a ridiculous sized display. Once you go ultrawide, you don't go back. Great review.

Picked a pair of these up at Microcenter a few weeks ago, and they are pretty solid to say the least. No gaming really, but the color profile and accuracy are right up there at the top of the list. TB4 works great on the latest MoBo's and laptops, so you have to consider de-cluttering as a major selling point beyond just a bigger screen. Put it on the list if you're screen shopping right now!

Having just changed from two curved 32in Samsungs to the G9 Neo 49in, I'm intrigued by this, and what may be coming round the corner at 49inch (or more!). I'm aware that in many ways, the G9 Neo is the daddy of gaming monitors, but I bought it because I was tired of the central bezels on a dual monitor setup, and having read other comments on here, I think ultra wides are going to be my purchases of choice from now on. It's been tough to get used to the decreased resolution (particularly from 2160 to 1440), but it's a worthwhile trade off I feel....until someone brings out a 49 or bigger that's got 4 or 5k. Thanks for the video.

The “strange” 72 Hz refresh rate is also nice for editing classic cinematic 24p footage without having to reduce the display refresh rate to 24 or 48 Hz to avoid video stutter but is annoying for mouse movement in the user interface.

  • @markeissler
    @markeissler 2 роки тому +12

One thing that these reviews of 5k2k 40" monitors leave out is compatibility with macOS. In that, they aren't compatible at all unless you're happy to go with the native resolution (microscopic fonts and icons) or are willing to give up the screen real estate and use a resolution that Apple can support (in this case, the next lower resolution is 3008x1269. Which is pointless. Because a 34" ultra wide at standard resolution is 3440x1440.
We seem to be in a weird place right now where if you want a bigger screen for a Mac, and want a screen that has a higher resolution for better clarity, you have to go for a 218PPI display which is only available as a 27" 5K screen (LG Ultrafine or Apple Studio Display...starting at $1600 for the latter without a height adjustable stand) or a 32" 6K display (Apple XDR...starting at $5000, not including a height adjustable stand).

I'd much rather go for the new 42" C2. It's "only" 4K and lower PPI but I will never go back to IPS after having used the 48" CX for a year. I liked my Ultrawide before that but the black bars when watching 16:9 content were annoying af and the backlight bleeding on IPS is awful. The 42" C2 has the same width as this one btw. Oh and it's 120Hz and significantly cheaper. The LG OLEDs typically go on sale after a year for less than 1000$.
I haven't got any issues with burn in yet and it doesn't seem to be a big issue for other people (Linus' video is not representative at all). If it becomes noticeable, and that could take a long time because slight burn in is not in everyday use, I will happily buy a new one that will be improved in every way by that point. People are worrying too much, OLED is totally worth it.

My 55" LG OLED is on its 3rd panel, thanks to serious burn in. Panels replaced under warranty, but LGs response time slowed notably after second panel. Even the most recent panel is now showing signs of burn in of static game elements (used for console gaming about 3-5 hrs/wk). OLED looks amazing, but burn in can happen after only a month or two, in my experience. I think LG and LG-friendly media downplayed the issue. I'm surprised reviewers don't mention it.

I hope LG takes their Dualup concept and brings it to the world of ultrawides. I'm thinking on the lines of a 30" Length , by 32" height monitor. The Dualup is a great productivity monitor but it's a not a so stellar content consumption device. You could divide that monster up horizontally so you could play video games on on an ultrawide resolution on the bottom half and use the upper half for conducting your streaming.

Imagine this monitor with a Displayport 2.0!
The limit without any DSC compression would be 194Hz (I like to be exact) at 10bit color, it'd be a gaming beast that would challenge new GPUs for the next 10 years!
And I don't think this is an unreachable spec for games, with DLSS/FSR constantly improving and for games that are not that demanding, this screen would be the best for productivity, movies and games even with today's hardware power.

I have the 49-inch LG monitor personally. The resolution of this one sounds like it would be a dream to work on. Just feel like the text would be hard to see for me personally as I already have occasional difficulty with my current panel.

This monitor has higher pixel density? So it should be way easier to read text.

Can you charge a macbook pro 16 m1 just with the thunderbolt connection? And would not it be worse for the battery than charging the macbook with the actual official charger?

    Does it have grayscale retention?
For instance, placing a window on a gray background for 10 minutes, move the window and you might see the frames of window stuck on the gray scale background

I need someone to drop a productivity focused OLED or Mini LED monitor. The Alienware OLED was a huge disappointment, and the Samsung G9 could have been good if it supported thunderbolt.

Its not really 5k resolution. That's just how they are referring to 4k ultrawide. It has the same resolution as a 4k monitor, just in a ultrawide format... common misconception.

Hi there, and thank-you for your video.
I just bought a new MacBook Pro 14inch and I’m looking for a big wide monitor - no gaming just for work productivity.
I don’t use a Caldigit hub, I only need to connect the MacBook. I just want a monitor that will simply just connect, and charge, my MacBook Pro 14 with one Thunderbolt cable between the two. Is this the way it works?
P.s what screw driver it that?
    Thank-you in advance.

Not sure which laptop you have but fir M1 Max 16 inch, it requires 140W power for charge. Then do this monitor can cause harm to MacBook as it delivers less power from thunderbolt port ?

I have the LG-38wn95c but I had to return it to Best buy since my USB C connecter broke off. I did get a credit for the monitor should I upgrade it to the 40-inch. I use it with M1 PRO Macbook 14' and Desktop PC which has a 3080. I don't really game but I do use it for work heavily. Data Tools and web conferencing. Should I go for the upgrade? or the Oled C2 42 inch

i am thinking of getting a 49" no 49" is capable of 5k, not even 4k, so is it worth to get the extra 9" and not even be 4k? i mean it is like having 2- 27" monitors..... was thinking of getting that Monoprice 49" Dark Matter $799 thoughts?

@@JTZification Thanks! I'm actually in NZ. If it's in Aus now though, then can't be too far away from arriving here. Was gonna just get from B&H in the US as they ship to NZ, but will just wait now. Doesn't look like Scorptec deliver over here anyway.

I love my LG 34" ultrawide for everything EXCEPT watching movies/shows. For whatever inane reason, many movies on many of the streaming services (Disney+ being the most grievous) can't be played full screen, instead having black bars on ALL FOUR EDGES. It's irritating and pointless, but for that reason alone my next upgrade will be a larger 16:9 or 16:9 aspect ratio display. So sad, because I really do find this ultrawide format superior for just about everything else.

I would have assumed switching it to gpu scaling+aspect ratio setting w/custom resolution would solve that issue.
