  • They started by busking at the Vail Farmers market. They write originals from the heart of the Rockies. This bluegrass quintet will force you to your feet or at the very least get you stompin' and clappin' with joy and respect for the Bluegrass genre, both traditional and progressive.
    Guitar - Summers Baker
    Mandolin - Jack Dunlevie
    Violin/Viola - Ian Parker
    Banjo - George Guthrie
Bass - Wilson Luallen brilliantly form Meadow Mountain. Denver Bluegrass and New Acoustic Winners of the 2017 UllrGrass band competition. Founded in 2014 in their hometown of Vail, Colorado, this string-heavy quintet sparks good energy, combine strong compositional elements with an ability to improvise and create melodic ideas in the moment. Meadow Mountain plays a tapestry of Colorado roots, new acoustic music. They started by busking at the Vail Farmers market and were inspired by Punch Brothers at The Vilar, making them want to play straight ahead bluegrass. "Many a Mile," "Battle Mountain Pass," and "Homestead" are among their broad repertoire of authentic genre of original bluegrass tunes. Dance with their twinkling guitar picks and country-riddled blues voices.

I realize not everyone likes or enjoys the "New or Progressive style", but I just love "that sound" that the acoustic banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar and bass make. Yes it may be a little different, but everyone expresses themselves musically a little differently. Sometimes it's a little "out there", but sometimes they knock it out of the park.

This song was written by Patrick Sky. He is a folk singer from the '60's. He later became an Irish bagpipe builder and player.

Gotta disagree with the last 10 years of Bluegrass being the most notable. I would say the 70's and 80's starting with Tony Rice and JD Crowe, Newgrass Revival, John Hartford, Old and In The Way, The Seldom Scene, Tony Trischka and many others. Vassar Clements is the most unique fiddler ever and my personal favorite also from that era. Admittedly there are some fantastic players now and at all times since the music began. Let's keep it going.
