i definitely prefer how closed mps(montenaro series) sound and feel... but they are so hard to control sometimes!! especially articulation and dynamics
I used to play B40 and even B45 Lyre but these days I also prefer closed facing mouthpieces. Agree, that pushing it to play forte can be challenging. It seems to me that it should be done not forcing or overblow but rather via increasing high overtones somehow.
I just tried six M13 Lyres and they are very good! I'll try them some days more to choose from cause they pretty much all play effortlessly and have a beautiful sound, but there are for sure some better than others I can say. V12 4.5 works the best I think, I also opened two new V21 4.5 and they were more resistant than I like, maybe they'll get lighter, will see.. Excellent first impressions for the M13 Lyre. Highly recommend you to try If you have a short barrel to play at 442hz. It combines precision tuning with great flexibility and despite the small opening, It has a big pure sound. The very high notes never were that easy. I recommend it even more than the M15 and M30 Lyre.
Oh, thank you so much for the updates! I am thinking about what can be my next toy(mouthpiece) .My current list I am going to choose from is exactly M13 Lyre, M15, M30 and M30D. So it's really nice to hear you find M13 Lyre to be that good.
@@alexeysclarinet9109 I think you should save the hassle and start with the M13 Lyre, I think you'll love It like me, my next favourite is M30 Lyre, M30 and then the M15(least favourite) because I need 4.5+ strength on It and doesn't exist. In any case, your mileage may vary.
@@jimis3167 I liked it, sound was rich and focused but maybe a bit too small. I tried to reface it by opening a tip a bit but just spoiled a good mouthpiece 😂 That's why I think M13 Lyre can be a good match for me. But honestly now I have 4 mouthpieces I like and any new mouthpiece is just a sign of Gear Acquisition Syndrome 😆
Thank you! Reed is Vandoren V21 3,5+. Ligature is my wife's shoelace lol. I needed it to hide the mouthpiece model. I want it to be a secret before I'll make a more thorough review and some comparison 😊
@@alexeysclarinet9109 Awesome! Coincidentally I happen to also try V21 3.5+ this time on M30 Lyre. It plays really well but I think I need number 4 while on V12s, number 4 is heavy for M30 Lyre. I had also tried in the past V21 but in 3.5 which tends to be light, 3.5+ and above I believe will be more ideal. I've already ordered 4, 4.5 and 5 to try on M30 Lyre and M15 which are my favourites so far. Maybe I'll like M13 Lyre too, wiil arrive tomorrow, so will see.
@@alexeysclarinet9109 I think I will give a try to D'addario mouthpieces in the future. They mention that they're a recreation of the vintage mouthpieces and they are made from milling hard rubber, not molded, so that's interesting. In any case, I don't think I change from Vandoren reeds though. V12 and V21s are favourites.
@@jimis3167 honestly, I have mixed feelings about D'Addario products. I have a Reserve X10 and Reserve Evolution. Also, tried different reeds. They are what I can name "interesting" and worth trying but with any product I have to work hard to get used to it and to get decent results. It almost feels like their designers for mouthpieces and reeds have ideas of how products should sound and feel and their ideas are not quite match with my ideas how it should sound and feel. So which piece is it ? 🤔
Weber Concertino Op. 26
Yes, the first piece is Weber Concertino Op. 26 as @micahdesmarais9524 mentioned. The second one is Clarinet Quintet, Op.10 (Coleridge-Taylor, Samuel)
