Shot with the mcpro24fps app. It could record decent audio ( with PCM 32-bit Float), but video, of course, is bad if the light conditions are bad. Also, I didn't figure out why the sync between video and audio is broken.

This is another video with BD4 HD and BD5 ( both of the 13 Series). It is now with Vandoren V12 reed 3.5 and in a different room/acoustic.
Vandoren BD4 HD vs Vandoren BD5

Both mouthpieces are 13 Series. I played the same reed-Pilgerstorfer Morre French Cut. The reed was 4 strength but adjusted to be softer, though it is still a bit harder for BD4 and a bit softer for BD5. Please take this video with a grain of salt. The camera mic isn't good, and I didn't have time to practice last time.

I know my English is far from perfect so below are some ideas of where to blow at if not blowing into the reed. Keith Stein: "Imagine a box in front of your upper lip and direct air into this box". Marcel Tabuteau: "Don't blow into the reed, blow towards the nose". Donald Montanaro's teacher: "Don't blow when you play, think of a snail."( meaning that the air should spin as the snail's shell lo...

In my opinion, like oboists, clarinetists should be more common to be making their own reeds. Unfortunately we don't have the tools and we've never been taught on how to create our reeds according to our preference. One thing's for sure, the V12s blank should be on sale, I think it's the best material.
I agree that there should be classes where we can learn how to make reeds. Or at bare least how to adjust them. I think it's more common in Germany to make own reeds but as far I know they often use some copying machines. Some tools and machines can be quite expensive. We can make reeds with just knife, sandpapers and files but it takes time to learn how to use them and result is less predictable. That's why I fell in love with any brand reeds after trying making my own reeds. Brand reeds more predictable and easier to adjust. And what is really important ( and as you mentioned) some brands use very good cane.
Very interesting, but aren’t you just talking about tongue position?
@@madraven07 partly, yes. But when I try to feel/understand what I am doing it became a very complex and overwhelming. Like bring the lower jaw inward, raise the soft palate a bit, bring back part of the tongue down a tiny bit, while keeping the middle part of the tongue high. So to me it's easier to feel air pressure and listening to the sound to control tone.
Your lessons are perfect it helps much to me…Thank u ❤
Thank you so much for your support! I am going to upload more educational videos!
Nice music and performing is brilliant as usual! Do you plan to give a concert in Europe this year?
Thank you, Andrey! ❤ All major stages are eagerly waiting for me! I just can't decide which ones to choose! 😂
Maybe I'm a noob in this but I don't know how to upload shorts of my videos. Can you tell me how? Do I have to extract portion of my video? Then regular video upload or different way?
Here is a link support.google.com/youtube/answer/12779649?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop I am not sure if I uploaded any short from my computer only from my smartphone. It was pretty straightforward. For computer ,I think it can be downloaded as a regular video but the video have to be less than 3 minutes and be square or vertical.
Strengthwise the reeds fit my playing are Rue Lepic 56 3.5, Traditional 3 and Reserve classic 3. Also V12 3 but they're little lighter than I prefer.
Hello Jimis, have u ever tried any Pyne's? Here on YT found only two videos on Belcanto. What do u think? I found them nice core sounding, similar to M30L which type of sound I like the most, I understand lately that btw.
I have one more to say, how to buy mpiece on trial? I read somewhere that you did that, if I'm not mistaken on amazon u've bought.
@@AlvinsThoughts That's correct. I can't think of any other place you can get trying and being possible for 30 days to return for refund. I have no Idea about Pyne mouthpieces, sorry. M30L I can tell It's great because I own one. I like it better than M30. Though in my opinion, Vandoren should have 3+ reed strength, I think that would be my preference for most of my mouthpieces.
@@jimis3167 3+ or 3.25 yeah it's great number, played many student years on that. Thx for info!
@@jimis3167 Btw, backun official website also has trial, but 2 weeks only
I could not feel how heavy the 3.5 V12s are within the practice sessions. The real challenge to test reeds is in live performances. There with the little anxiety factor I could really feel how heavy is the V12 3.5 compared to practice sessions and I had to play from the 3 pieces of Stravinsky the third. Although it went well, it wasn't the comfoest setup.
@@jimis3167 I see. The same thing constantly happened to me when I was studying. Good reed immediately became a bad reed on the stage, because I was nervous and lost the ability to handle it in the correct way.
Thank you! Basically I find the V12 and the 56 the best Vandoren reeds with 3rd place the Traditionals and 4rth place the V21. From D'addario, I also like the classic. The very best reeds for me would be V12 3+ but they don't exist. I could really feel how heavy the 3.5 in an exam I had, so I won't use 3.5 V12 again I think.
What if you put a reed a bit higher? So the tip of the reed is 0.3-0.5 mm higher than the mouthpiece edge? Andy Miles advised this for every reed actually to get a bit more resistance and fuller sound.
@@alexeysclarinet9109No, It doesn't work. It's about the wood the reed contains. A 3+ would contain the right amount. There really is quite a space between 3 and 3.5
Can you make one more demo of the same, this time with V12 reed?
@@jimis3167 oh, I am sorry I don't have any Vandoren reed :(

@@alexeysclarinet9109 Which brand of reed do you use?
Out of curiosity, can you measure the weight of BD4 HD and mention it? I've heard BD HD they're little heavier while mouthpieces generally weight 27 grams. As for sound, I think I like the BD4 HD more though not sure if it provides efficient playing for you which is more important aspect when choosing a mouthpiece.
@@jimis3167 I don't have kitchen scale so I can't measure it right now. But it's definitely heavier than BD5 or any of my other mouthpieces. Here is a link where guy weighted it www.earspasm.com/products/vandoren-bd4-hd-bb-clarinet-mouthpiece?srsltid=AfmBOorRZL5Y_agJaFQ-NGX2mBKoQMtDV6mu60mmIy6heb5gQqoq3wHg As for BD4 I also like the sound more but I am not comfortable with this mouthpiece yet. But honestly, the difference in sound is marginal. Basically because I play and not the mouthpiece.
@alexeysclarinet9109 I really wish there would be BD2 in HD.
@jimis3167 yeah...maybe sometime they are going to make it
Uso lo stesso con 3.5 v12 oppure 4 rue lepic
@@fabriziopalmero9710 that's great! Maybe I am practicing too little or don't get used to mouthpiece yet. 3.5 feels a bit heavy and less controller than softer reeds.
@@alexeysclarinet9109 That's not the case. I practice quite a bit and I find 3.5 heavy too, whatever the mouthpiece. That's why I wish there would be 3+ strength.
@@jimis3167 understood! That's why we should sometimes adjust reeds with sanding, scraping etc 😃
@@alexeysclarinet9109 Yes, though I'm not successful in this regard. Most of the reeds I try to rub become worse in the end.
@jimis3167 I see. Maybe in future I'll make a video about reeds adjustment. I have found that there are several easy techniques that work pretty well for me.
Interesting! What reeds you like on BD4 HD?
@@jimis3167 I don't know yet. Really. It was a brief test. 3.5 reed was too hard and the sound was shrill and prone to squeak. 3+ reed was too soft but the sound was more mellow and more controlled. So it seems it works better with softer reeds. Anyway I haven't played clarinet for more than 2 weeks and I am going to make a longer video comparing BD4 HD to BD5. Unfortunately I don't have a normal BD4 :(
@alexeysclarinet9109 BD4 HD is supposedly better than BD4, though not ultimately.

Yup! Great reminder. I’ve heard that a few times about blowing into the bottom one the upper lip. Mostly from those who went to Indiana University

Would you say the B40D is resistant enough so someone could play lighter reeds like V12 #3? Or B40 Lyre would do better with lighter reeds? (As chart mention)
@@jimis3167 D40D is resistant mouthpiece. I play V12 3.5 on most of my mouthpieces but I use 3 or 3+ with B40D. Also based on charts B40 Lyre has more closed and longer facing meaning for me that optimal reed strength for me will be smth between 3+ and 3.5

Just informatively, do you still play B40D with V12 3.5?
B40D - yes, reeds are from 3 to 3+ of different brands. This particular is of "SPB Reeds" brand ( Russian)
@@alexeysclarinet9109 My preferred reeds would be V12 3+ but don't exist. This time I try again the Vandoren traditional 3 which I was playing in my early years. I try them on the Evolution marble mouthpiece. They play quite well. Since there isn't 3+, those are as close to that as I can get. V12 3+ would be better for sure, V12s are nicer quality.
