Great video! Thanks for the content! Do you have to deactivate the stock radio and a brake controller if you have one? I’ve seen other reviews from different tuners and some people have said to do that?
Thanks, bro. I’ve been doing extensive research on handheld tuners for my 14 Sierra and I ran into your video installing and update. You’ve given me more reason to pull the trigger on this one. Earned my sub! Keep it up.
The older trucks it honestly doesn’t make a worthwhile improvement on. There’s so much more you can do to the early 5.3 that I honestly think you’d be best off lowering your truck (aerodynamics) and doing highway gearing if you’re looking for better fuel economy. These tuners really only uncork the newer trucks that have a lot of electronic dampers on them. For the price of this tuner you could get an hp tuners mpvi3 and modify so many more parameters and really dial your truck in. Fuel economy at 70mph is heavily involved with rotating mass and gearing though. For strictly economy start with lowering it maybe a 2/4 drop, getting a lighter set of wheels and tires that are similar in size and see what your truck is optioned with for gearing. Consider stepping down from something like a 3.73 to a 3.42 with a lsd.
My truck developed a idle tick and a check engine for no oil pressure. Im guessing because of low idle now that i see your video. Going to try to up it and see what happens
These engines don’t tend to have a lot of oil pressure at idle (nor did the old ls1s or certain lm7/lq4 in my personal experience) I like to see atleast 30psi though, if I see that my paranoia goes away I also see it as useful to run 5w30 in my truck in the summer instead of the much thinner 0w20 the truck recommends. That could just be a useless placebo affect that I believe in 😂 And yes it’s worth a shot! I’ve noticed no idle tick with my current setup
The gas mileage is technically worse by about 1mpg due to the v4 mode being deactivated, but it’s 100% worth it IMO because of the increased drivability of the truck
My stability control kicks back in at 35 still, but what I’ve heard is you can pull the abs/tc fuse and wire a tap to a switch and get rid of the issue that way. Personally I like to have snowy fun in my truck in empty parking lots and having it kick back in at 35 can be quite irritating I haven’t messed with it because of the warranty on the truck
This diagram, number 25 is the fuse the forms say is the one to pull images.app.goo.gl/x9nuX55WsJLkdBjcA May have to c&p it (Just for my own safety: I don’t recommend you do this)
whats the big issue with the V4 mode? i got a '15 sierra that has it and i see alot of people hating on it but can't find i straight answer, someone help me out???
Causes a lot of premature part failures like the lifters and messes with the oil, I believe it consumes too much. Other than that I don’t know but it’s really recommended to get rid of it
Superchips value, I believe the superchips value is 125% I made a follow up and exhaust video I had to dial my second to third shift back from +350rpm to +250rpm to make it happy it was shifting slow because of the shift torque. It didn’t like running out to 5950 before shifting. It’s happy at 5850 now!
@@hashtag_moto_thank for the reply man! I’m buying this for my 2016 1500 this weekend. I have the range right now for the v4 mode but I absolutely hate the shifting in these trucks. I put a borla atak cat back on the truck and I absolutely can’t wait to tune this truck. I’ve been running 93 in the truck do you think the performance tune will run fine on 93?
@@ryancarter1132 yes I think it’ll run fine on 93, some people said they noticed very hard shifting on the 93 tune even at low rpms so keep watch for that. Maybe worth dialing back the shift pressure one notch if so
It’s all in how you drive and these trucks are also very temperamental to cold weather. I dropped to 15-16mpg in the 20 degree weather Also I don’t see any reason to run 91 in these unless you have it tuned for 91 specifically I’d save the $ and run 87!

Mine was just plug and play I didn’t have to deactivate anything!

@@Empower-Master thank you!
Awesome review! Why does the guages keep flashing? Is this from the tune?
The gauges look like they’re flashing because of the frame rate of the camera is all. Doesn’t look like that to the naked eye!
Thinking about getting it for highway fuel economy.. what do you usually get doing 70mph
I have a 05 single cab 5.3

Bro do you happen to have all your final settings..? Got the same truck you do
I can make a short with all my current settings if you want
@hashtag_moto_ that would be great! Enjoyed the vid

Does it give you better gas mileage. Thinking of getting one to save gas . I have Same truck with 22x12 on 33s

Does the tune delete the traction control stupid 30mph cut out? And actually let you break it loose?

Awesome feedback thanks man!
The crazy part is I have a 5.3 2014 gmc And I have the idle tick
Apparently it’s pretty common, I’m going to make an update video 20k miles later very soon
How’s it doing now? Does it ever go into limp mode or anything?
No issues! I’ll make a follow up video soon!

If you do the 87 tune can u still use 91 fuel or u have to use 87?
I would use the tune that’s set up for its respective octane
What are your shift pressures on your new tune?
