I see you made it through ok though. How have you made the adjustment with your sleep since you've been out? My goal is to raise some awareness and maybe help some folks that might be going through the same issue. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for the support, Harvey!
@@EricSwanson1 Sometimes I sleep good and other times not so good. As you know PIS effects different people differently I can usually sleep after an exhausting day or during thunderstorms. If people keep moving through the house I can sleep good. Ethan has heavy feet. Lol. However, one thing that helps me is before going to sleep, I listen to the sounds in the house. As long as I only hear those sounds I can usually sleep good. But if there is a different sound , I am wide awake
@@HarveyTalksPrison that's interesting. I never thought to train myself to hear something out of the ordinary rather than waking up at any sound. Thank you for the insight! I'm going to give it a try.

Parts of this also made me think of the experience of patients who are in the hospital and woken up frequently for various reasons.
Thank you for pointing that out! Now that I think about it, there are a lot of similarities. That's probably the closest comparison I've come across in the free world.
This reminds me of living with my late husband who was abusive and I had to sleep with one eye opened because I never knew when he would explode! It's compared to being in combat or war out in the field! It's hard to admit we can't fix everything because we want some healthy structure and predictability. You've described this well! My jobs were later patterned after these hoot owl hours and still haunts me at times today. Thanks😊❤!
I'm sorry you went through that. Living with a volatile person like that is horrible. It sucks not feeling safe in your own home. And yes, whether it's from work or something else, routines stay with you. It's hard to shake. Thank you for watching!
Grat topic! I have such a terrible sleep schedule.. probably undiagnosed ADHD. It's so annoying! I do the same thing! Oh, it's ok, it doesn't matter, etc. Great msg. Awareness makes such a difference! Sounds like you're talking to me, or that I'm making this video. Man! I like what you said about being perfect. I'm a fixer too. I usually have to slow down, if I'm tired. I usually want to speed up, but often times, it makes it worse. Slowing down can help.

It's hard to take an objective look at ourselves sometimes and see problems for what they really are. I have to take time to slow down, too. I sometimes go to sleep at 6am. I often nap during the day. I can't get to work right now because of the stupid transit strike in my Regional District (and I have a disability pension and a great boss, so I can somehow last without working, just barely), so I keep odd hours. I have for a long time, ever since I used to wake up to get to work at a grocery store for a 5am shift (good times).
I hope you aren't offended by me sharing stories. I am not trying to rain on your parade; I like listening to yours, but I like to share mine. I get talkative, and I feel 'at home' on this channel talking about my experiences. You know by now that I have issues, so it is therapeutic.
I don't mind your stories at all. Everyone's different. What is normal for one person might not be normal for the next. I like hearing your story and your perspectives. I'm happy that you feel comfortable sharing on the channel and get something out of it.
I keep off hours and that wouldn't be bad in itself, but I don't sleep much during the day. I generally go to sleep between 3 and 5 am and I get up around 7. I do that for several days, then I'll crash and sleep for most of the day. I'm staying on top of it though and trying to get into a better routine.
@@EricSwanson1 I am trying, too. Tonight, I intend to try for a 2:30 bedtime. It means a lot to me that you say that you like my stories.
It may sound surprising but have you ever thought of teaching as a career? You are well-spoken and explain things well.
To this day I have to have something going TV radio there's got to be noise. Ever since I got out if it's real quiet I cannot sleep I got to have the noise band I got that ringing in my ears so bad nowadays when it's quiet what's a noise I don't focus on that as much and when people wake me up it's best to step back first because you never know how much to come up off that bed
I just finished watching a documentary on prison in NJ called Scared Straight 1978. I think you may find it interesting if you see it. I just looked underr Scared Straight and found it.

Yep, that works. I like to have a fan on. The quiet just seems off sometimes.
I am super surprised about the idiotic eating times So breakfast in the middle of the night and lunch at breakfast time. No wonder if any sense for time gets ruined if it is done on full purpose.
Yeah, it's pretty messed up. I have just recently managed to get on a normal eating schedule. It's funny, I still get hungry though at the same times they served chow.
what martial art do you think works better for self defense in prison, kick boxing, jiujitsu or wrestling?
I know weapons are involve in prison but do fights with no weapons actually happen?
is there such a thing as a 1v1 fight?
or people usually jumps in?
Do fights ever go to the ground?

To answer briefly, boxing. I would encourage people to be well rounded though. 1v1s without weapons happen all the time. The challenge of fighting in prison is time. From the moment it starts to the time officers break it up is within a few minutes at most, unless you're in a blind spot.
