They have removed all the “feel good” features!!! Removed gold medals, portrait borders, end of game player cards, at least they gave us back the on fire system 😢
A worse fire system the fire is uglier and with the new score board when holding tab whose on fire is not even really seen. Also the old fire system would tell you how much fire you gained based on how much you contributed to a kill or if you captured a point, etc with the meter filling under your picture in the bottom left. what we have now is so half assed it's sad.
I will never defend the "End of the game cards". Extremely pointless system I hardly ever saw anyone even bother with. They either voted on them self, on a teammate, or not at all. I think I only saw someone get all 12 votes 2 or 3 times in my entire time playing Overwatch 1.
@@Spika94 that’s just poor sportsmanship. It’s not the cards fault people are ignorant, salty, or selfish. Have you ever voted in a political election? Haha
And I also believe that they would earn enough money if they added new skins in the loot box pool after six months or something like that. So you can get the skin earlier if you want to pay money but after a few months everyone could have the chance to get it
Still don’t know why they wouldn’t keep the group finder. I can’t stand playing Overwatch all day long and talking to myself in every game because no one will speak.
I played on console and lets just say that the chats became very sus . I cant exactly recall but one tittle was specifically asking for " female 16 year old only " .
Idk I personally like when others speak and I don’t have to, I don’t mind listening and repositioning and all that jazz but I get nervous talking to newer people in game lol
@@rickhapstley3866 they do if you're a whale who can't live without having all the mythics, just use the currency from the bp and you've only spent 1000 ow coins whatever that is in your currency
No, I heavily disagree with the paid skins over loot boxes Ow 1 loot boxes was the most fair of any game. When new skins came out all you had to do was play to get a lootbox to get the skin and if you didn't you could use the credits you get for duplicates to buy the new skins or get them for cheaper if the event comes back next year. It was possible to earn every new skins and cosmetics for free in ow 1. Ow 2 is now overcharging skins that would have been free in Ow 1
yes, ow1's lootbox system was extremely fair and generous but that doesnt change the fact that loot boxes are banned in a host of countries including china which is a massive MASSIVE market. unfortunately they had no choice but to move to a free to play model if they wanted overwatch to be live service with continual updates. the pricing of individual skins is definitely something that has gotten a lot worse in ow2's life span (looking at the new mythic weapon prices specifically) and absolutely needs to be put in check but we're just never going back to lootboxes and getting everything for free, as great as that would be
@endless_del yeah that's like one of the things I really don't like about Ow2. My original goal of trying to collect all the skins for my main ( Ana ) just gone. And ow 2 doesn't do much to compensate ow1 players. This and after they announced that pve was cancelled was where I draw the line. It lost every reason to exist when they stopped pve. And I ultimately drop the game and haven't gone back since. Now I'm looking forward to marvel rivals
So far, I have never played arcade in OW2 because it's just not rewarding at all, loved the 3 free lootboxes for playing it each week. Wish they'd just had unbuyable lootboxes still in the game but maybe a rarer chance of legendaries so they can keep the shop to fast-track the grind for them
@@endless_del That's so funny. China is the place where gacha games rule the market but they think that loot boxes are not okay. Imo gacha system is even more evil
@hotelinjapan9007 the modern gacha essentially IS a loot box system. iirc the specific regulations in china (and other countries with similar bans) are that there has to be a way to access the "lottery" system without paying, and any "lottery" system (regardless of payment or obtaining it for free) has to disclose what the contents of the system are, and the percentage change to obtain every specfic item. there are also rules about requiring the inclusion of high value items (such as 5 star characters) within a certain number of engagements with the system, and they are required to disclose that information as well.
The reason why people want loot boxes is because the monetary system is so predatory, and you can't get the exclusive stuff for free like overwatch 1, you have to buy it even if you had ow1 , they starved us form content in ow1 so they can "build" the campaign and we all see where that got us -_-
You have no idea what the hell predatory means. It's so annoying to see people continue to use the word wrong. No, you having to buy things is not predatory. Your local grocery story is not predatory. Lootboxes are gambling, and gambling is predatory.
@babulbi unfortunately it is predatory, and the game not only shoves the skins to the player, but they also make mods to promote them, and they give out free withless stuff so they can get you interested in buying them , and that's not talking about how the cost of these skins are so expensive that you can buy ab AAA game and still have money while not offering the free players anything of worth, and some of these players paid full price for ow1 and got nothing when the got ow2 , if they offered the ow1 players to keep playing ow1 instead of ow2 we would have kept playing it but they took it form us to give us a worst game .
I used to do mostly 1's, i started playing during the height of double shield, PLUS i used to play tank. Needless to say, i didn't have fun most of the time.
Yep. Keeping all my OW1 skins and the rest I'm totally ignoring. I legit quit the game for a solid 3 years until recently because of the OW1/2 transition. And legit I only came back for arcade and the occasional quick play.
same, i didnt even bother getting the new skins, i'm only keeping my ow1 stuff but however on the occasion i do get some ow2 stuff, they're rereleasing exclusive attires like roadhogs pachimari skin, widow makers 20th anniversary skin, that pisses me off though instead of creating variants of it like they did with demon hunter
But how is a small indie company like Blizzard going to make money if they don't have predatory microtransactions? Can't just give players things for free in a game they paid money for...
5:14 OW1 wasn’t getting content for a while because the devs were working on OW2, not because they weren’t making any money from a lack of a battle pass or mythic weapon skins. Blizzard is owned by Activision of all companies and had an (at the time) successful esports model on top of it all. Loot boxes were infinitely better for players when getting cosmetics. Paying outright for cosmetics you want with premium or in game grindable currency should have been the way to go but unfortunately we know the route the game went.
Lootboxes might be fine to you, but it will lead down others into the abyss of gambling. They wouldve kept the loot box system for sure, if they werent at risk getting OW2 banned for gambling in some countries.
@@derunfassbarebielecki we don't ban junk food cuz of small percentage of ppl with addiction that became obese. We don't ban drugs because someone decided to use it outside of medicine and in larger doses. Lootboxes should have stayed along with BP. Preferably with new stuff eventually being added to them from the shop
On the topic of loot boxes, in the video you said "i would rather have new content and have to pay for it" but from my perspective as someone who very rarely pays 30$aud for a ONE SKIN, having the content paid only pretty much means there is no new content because i will never have it. This also doesnt even address the extreme FOMO system the game has with most cosmetics only being available one time and never coming back, an issue that barely existed in ow1.
Some can deal with lootboxes without issues, others will go down the abyss of gambling addiction. They removed the lootboxes because of laws against online gambling which exist in valuable markets.
Hahagahaha okay to claim they removed lootboxes to save people from themselves when the price of a new skin is the price of a full game is ridiculous. What about compulsive spenders? Should we coddle them too?
@@derunfassbarebielecki yeah that's the problem is it may protect people prone to gambling problems, but it makes it worse for people who are prone to compulsive buying
Blizzard should let us do our own “bundles” of skins and give us a good discount, the bundles they give per skin are really lame and sometimes includes things we don’t really want or ever going to use.
Whilst I do prefer the change to a scoreboard compared to the medal system we had in ow1, the scoreboard absolutely promotes more toxicity. When you can simply press tab and see who has the lowest stats overall its 10x easier to flame that player as the weakest link. It doesn't help that some heroes can be easily misrepresented by the scoreboard such as Lucio and Moira.
A feeding Rein doesn't need to see stats to flame me for trying to peel him rather than heal as Lucio. Personally I'm proud to see 55%+ speed in my stats, it is literally my utility. My teammates inability to capitalize, despite my best efforts, kinda becomes whatever. LUCIO, WHY ARE YOU ON SPEED???? Ummm, cause it's the better half of my kit... Side note, the only thing that bummed me out about loot boxes was they opened the 1400 I had saved(stopped opening unless there was an item I actually cared about, but Lucio never got anything, so it stopped mattering, cause I had pretty much everything in the game), but I didn't really get anything for them. Woulda been nice if I got value from them in a worthwhile currency. Thanks for this video, so much of this stuff is forgotten by those of us who were there .. let alone all the new players not having much context to why so many of us miss OW1, outside of the superior 6v6.
3:22 medals were toxic sure but the current scoreboard is so much worse at least with medals you had to be dps/healing/whatever else to flame someone, now you just press tab
Good video overall but I feel you did miss something with regards to tank player population. Many players LOVED playing tank in 6v6 but hate it in 5v5. The amount of pressure put on tank players when there is only 1 of them does turn off a large portion of the tank playerbase. Offtank always seemed more popular than main tank but every game of 5v5 is played as Main Tank. I'm not playing tank until 6v6 or open queue becomes the standard comp mode.
i do think this is why we still have an incredibly low amount of tank players despite a match needing even less of them, but if they brought 6v6 back i don't think that would change the ratio in the end. tank being an unpopular role is a proven fact even outside of overwatch
I had 600 hours on tank in OW1. Playing tank in OW2 almost made me hang it up for good and switch to dps or support. Tank feels so fucking bad in 5v5 and you're the only role without a supporting player so everything is almost always pinned on your role, even if it's not your fault. It sucks man..
Then you’ll never be playing tank because tank doesn’t have enough people playing it as is and if you seriously think 6v6 is going to change queue times for the long term, you are an idiot.
Ah, the rank icons. I much preferred the old ones. My eyesight isn't great and I have hard time telling some of the new ones apart. To add to the confusion, the simplified icons and especially their colour schemes in the Career Profile are hard to tell apart for some of the ranks. The old icons were clean, easy to distinguish and just plain looked good.
The New ones just look downrigjt bad. Just like all the other games on the market, indistingushable. The old ones were beautiful and didn't have to be changed
5:20 Overwatch made over a billion in the first year on both the box-sale and the lootbox sale. They didn't stop updating it because they ran out of money, they just used the money to develop "overwatch 2" which just went through an endless cicle of pointless things getting made and then getting cut. They literally squandered the money. I HAVE SPEND LESS MONEY ON OW2 than I did on 1 exactly because I don't feel like the game respects me as a player. If it would, I would be allowed to EARN and PROGRESS based on how much I play. I HATE buying skins, I want to feel ACCOMPLISHED through earning them.
I really hope they add those borders back they were amazing to look at, I used to play overwatch 1 a lot and I loved looking at the score board seeing silver boarders, gold, platinum or diamond borders and I always used to look at their profiles, they’re adding a lot of stuff back from overwatch 1 like 6v6 I really hope they add borders back and maybe change the scoreboard back the progression system is Alr I like the levels but the borders were much better
why is bro acting like ranked having a "competitive" feel is bad? it's ranked? Play for fun and be casual in standard/casual, play to win in ranked.... where it actually matters?! "Oh no, my stack is facing another stack" yeah duh, that's called balance. The game ain't "punishing" you bruh. The percentage of solo que randoms who use a mic are low af, whether or not they have one, so having a stack (who more than likely use comms) is a massive advantage against solo que people. If I have a sweaty stack going into ranked, I'm expecting to go against more stacks... or is the game suppose to allow you to roll everyone and win every ranked game?
I knew this was meat riding when they glossed over PVE, the MAIN reason and justification for OW2 even being made according to the dev team for so many years. Treating it like “It is what it is guys” is fowl. OW1 was erased for this 💀
I never knew what the “looking for group” was till this video😭🙏 the medals were so funny “why do I have gold elms on support” or even having a team of 6 and four of them consisting of dps😭
I cant even finish watching this video. You're shilling for ovw2 so much it hurts. - No, the game wasnt dead because it wasnt making money. They were making PLENTY. The current monetization system is purely based on greed, not necessity, and the prices are absolutely ridiculous. The only reason the game went stale is because the devs abandoned it to work on overwatch 2 "pve", which is why the community was so upset when it got scrapped. We lost the infinitely better version of this game for absolutely NO reason. - No, the game is not the healthiest it's ever been. The playerbase is dwindling and the updates are terrible, rehashed content that almost nobody likes. The events are stale, the skins are overpriced and just recolors of previous skins, the mythic system is a moneygrab, the battlepass is a joke and literally everyone I know who used to love this game has left or is leaving it. I dont know who at Blizzard paid you to say all these lies but I find it impressive you can say them and sound even semi-believable.
there's a concerning amount of bootlickers who genuinely believe multi billion dollar companies are scraping their couches for change. EA is another example. they gather in a large player base and realize that they could be making a lot more money than they already are. it's pure greed
Same here after he said the new store is better than the previous one I instantly realised this guy wants to be an blizzard boot licker and also thumps down on the video you gotta do it
This person is speaking no facts, most this is stupid as shit. But it could all just be personal opinion on their end. Scoreboard is more toxic as it's seen through whole match. OW1 WASNT DEAD, it was ABANDONED by the devs for a scrapped good PVE. Match finder almost always had a large collection of people in it. Sure loot boxes are gambling and it makes since to remove it, BUT EVERY SKIN IS 1/3RD THE PRICE OF OVERWATCH 1!!
As someone who played since the Overwatch beta and until 2020 i disagree with a lot of what you say. You try to make every change look good, which is just wrong. Saying the game is in the healthiest state it has ever been in is also false. The game is dead. Its dead since 2019 tbh. The peak of madness happened when they released OW 2 which completely ruined everything. The Devs only want to make money with OW2 and thats it. Most of the OG devs left. Most of the OG Players left. Most of the good Ideas left. The Game is over. It completely lost its soul and is now a parasite inhabitated shell of what it once was.

Look how many of them have left from professional tournaments.
It bothers me how easily you shrugged off PvE’s cancellation. PvE was Overwatch 2’s selling point- no, it was Overwatch 2’s promise, it was Overwatch 2’s purpose. And the fact that it never came out… is just incredibly frustrating. Without PvE, Overwatch 2’s existence is COMPLETELY POINTLESS. OVERWATCH 2 DID NOT REDEFINE SEQUELS. IT REMOVED A MASSIVE CHUNK OF CONTENT, AND THE CHUNKS WERE NEVER FILLED OUT.
@@nickarispe6030 expect the PVE was meant to be replayable with updates, randomized maps, enemys objectives skill tree the whole reason why they needed to make a second overwatch, one for the PVE the other for PVP
Problem with game switching from "Earn all, but with lootboxes" to "Free to play, but pay for content" is that Overwatch 1 was a PAID game, with a certain amount of selling points. Such as all heroes being always available, and where's that now!?
9:36 the LFG system was pretty often used on EU server, to find a group of 6 who all talk the same language, because queueing solo, 1/20 matches I get 3+ people with me in vc (ranked)
I miss loot boxes. It felt rewarding to continue playing the game casually. Now if you want to earn currency to buy stuff, you need to do specific challenges. No more playing for fun but rather grinding and completing very tetious tasks. That sucks because you no longer get rewarded for playing your favorite heroes. You're basically backed up a wall and forced to choose to play characters you aren't the best with which can be seen as "throwing" as some people's best is not enough when playing difficult heroes. Anyways thanks for the video!
Forgot the General chat. In Ow1, idk when precisely they removed it, but there was a white colored [General] chat which you had access to from the main menu that let’s you have a conversation with some randos from your regions. I like the idea but if I had to guess, they’d remove it because people would use it to self-promote (even if I don’t recall seeing a lot).

@5:40 That doesn't make it okay to overcharge for content, though. You shouldn't have to pay for the cost of the initial game (at $40) for each new premium battle pass. Fair pricing would be no more than $8 for a battle pass, or $12 for a premium. These are digital expenses that take up no physical space. Profit should be made on selling activation keys to a high number of players. Not charging fewer players more. This makes no sense. There's no reason they can't sell a cheaper premium battle pass to 100 people over selling it to 3 people for three times the amount of money. At the end of the day, everyone has to have the skins downloaded on their computers to be able to SEE them. All you're paying for is a digital check-box that says your account is allowed to use it. There's no reason whatsoever for it to be more than a few dollars... unless there's no one playing the game.
Also the battle pass is $10, the other one is a bundle that has like two legendary skins and 2000 OverWatch coins, which yeah is pretty greedy but that's not the battle pass
@@eggzwaztaken Yes. But, remember, Blizzard sets the price of its own digital currency. Of course it's inflated. These skins are worth $3-$5 each-- seriously, so we can say that the actual value of the 2000 of coins is about $5. Doesn't make the bundle worth it. In my eyes, 20 tier skips is only worth about $2, as well. So, we're looking at what? $15 dollars for a truly fair price? Wasn't it originally $20? Honestly, if it were, I would buy every one of them.
And he tries to use the "desolate wasteland" that ow1 became as an excuse for over charging for skins when their stated reason was "we're making ow 2 with a pve mode and skill trees we definitely won't abandon and fire everyone involved"
the battle pass in overwatch is amazing compared to other free to play games. If i can just play the game and get the battle pass for free that sounds great to me? You don't need to pay anything for the battle pass, and you don't even need to buy it in the first place. Skins won't make you better at the game, and funny voice lines aren't either. The battle pass is there if you want to buy it, and no where does it say you have to get the $40 one either. Tell me your a child that feels unheard at home w/out telling me
Just so people don't get the wrong idea, Assault(2CP) IS still in the game, just not the main QP and Ranked Queue! You can play it in the arcade! Infact, it's in there RN! TODAY!
„Overwatch is the healthiest it’s ever been“ - I don’t know if you actually think that but I don’t think you could if you played it on launch. It’s also not just Nostalgia. The game worked better, was more fun and more balanced. The monetization was better as well as the hud design and the game had a soul. Overwatch is not the healthiest it’s ever been. It’s dead and people like you killed it
Assault wasn't completely removed from Overwatch 2, it was just removed in Quick Play and Competitive, and the only way you could play it was through custom games. Later, Assault was added to arcade as it's own separate gamemode.
This guy really said: Looking For Group "a feature that was introduced to serve people who didn't have anyone to play with" was useless, because i have friends to play with :) Also can we stop with the "oh no one was using it" it was literally Full a day before ow1 server shutdown
LFG was genuinely the only system that kept me coming back AFTER my friends kicked their OW addiction. It let me find and hang out with new people, make new friends & have a group to consistently play with. It also let me play with more people outside of my server zone, like playing with other players from the EU and other countries. Yeah I may have lagged quite a bit, but I was able to have a fun and unique experience with people across the world, which felt special. I know they removed LFG because the couldn't figure put how to ban all the NSFW group names, but I feel it is a lazy reason, since they allow Custom Games which has the exact same problem.
i have to admit it feels a little silly how most of the features removed were features that "encouraged toxicity"... at what point can we consider it the playerbase's fault for just being so needlessly toxic???
As a hog "one trick" with over 3k hours on hog. If I ever had or have gold healing, I first think about my placement in fights and if I'm taking too much unnecessary damage; and having to self heal more than I should be. It's not always the support doing bad. It's often the hog being too much of a sponge. Not to say that it's not sometimes a support issue though, just rarely in comparison.
I miss the player portraits a lot, even though I never made it very far in OW1 (only reached lvl 272 bronze border) but it was fun to see how little of a life my team had XD
yeah, if no man's sky can get free updates for nearly 10 years with no shop as far as i know, thats not a rock solid defense, overwatch made a LOT of money from box sales, it made a LOT of money from lootboxes, im not saying the shop doesnt make MORE money, it absolutely does, but they werent hurting for money blizzard is a industry titan that shrugs off major backlash and controverse's monthly
'penultimate' is the one right before the final one. 'penultimate' doesn't mean super mega ultimate, it means (ultimate) - (1). in a series of ten, nine is the penultimate and ten is the ultimate.
Blizzard: remove the metal system and let the exact stats be visible to every player in the lobby! That’ll solve toxicity 😂… nope! And now the person with highest stats doesn’t even get a dopamine hit since they don’t get a metal
"Widow and sombra do something your dps is horrible!!! " Widow and sombra sitting on 30+ eliminations and 0 deaths The scoreboard does not matter 95% of the time
@@darthrevan618 %90 of people forget that you are supposed to read stats based on the characters type of damage and healing. Healing stat is even less important because it more about when you heal than how much. High damage is good even if you are struggling to secure kills because damage is directly tied to pressuring for space.
The loot box system was great in Overwatch, for every three wins in arcade you would get a loot box. You can do that up to 9 wins earning 3 loot boxes, but then you also got 1 loot box for your first win of the day. But you also get it from leveling up, so you can play Overwatch 1 and earn like 6 or 7 loot boxes in a few hours and more than likely you get a legendary skin from that. Something that would cost you real money in Overwatch 2 would be free in Overwatch 1.
I miss the anniversary games back so bad. I loved them so much and made me play hero’s I didn’t like because I didn’t play them but playing them made me understand better and improve.
I think that tank might have become so unpopular because of the increased survivability of supports. For example kiriko or Moira are not dependent on safety from their tank since they have all of these abilities that keep them alive so they don't need to stick to the tank in order to survive. Without this dependence the whole concept of a hero shooter falls apart. Idk if I'm just stating the obvious, but then I wonder why the devs rework DPS and not the healers which are the backbone of this game.
I have a counter point for loot boxes. It’s true that we were getting less content but when an update was dropping everyone was excited because they knew that would get that stuf and be able to try them out. Now we are getting much more stuff so many that you loose track and they are so expensive that you know from the start that you aren’t going to get them so for me with the new system the only updates that matters are new stages and heroes. I can’t give for two or three skins 20€ when I bought the original overwatch 20€ (on discount) that gave me 100+ skins for 20€ .
They banned loot boxes in my country, Belgium. But if i'm gonna be totally honest, it wasn't game changing. I could still grind my player border through levels and i could still aim to get those gold medals. This is what made OW1 rewarding even if i couldn't get the cosmetics anymore. OW2 on the other hand... 40 euros for 1 skin, no levels, no medals, no nothing. Not even the highly anticipated PVE... This is why i stopped playing. People can have their opinions but i will forever miss OW1 💔
"the monetization hasn't been perfect" come on, just tell the truth, it sucks. yes, lootboxes encouraged gambling, but the monetization is ran so awfully in OW2
@FastracMan Nah, was able to queue up with some teammates who actually cared about peeling for their supports. People will complain about healing while both of their supports are constantly getting jumped🤣.
Plus when using the LFG system you would get more people who cared about winning and comm'ing. So many throwers were in the game around that time. Majority of the reason why the LFG system was implemented.
Im suprised people always state "I dont think people used lfg at all" I don't know if there was a difference between EU and NA servers but I always used to use LFG, actually I remember alot of ppl using it back in the day because it was seen as a reliable way of getting the teammates and compositions you wanted. You also could count on people being more cooperative over there. Tho i often met every now and then the same people over there which was honestly really wholesome. It felt like going to your favorite go to bar and seeing the same people chilling there every weekend. I made some great friends over the LFG, even some important reallife friends. I mean if we take a look at the ow2 discord server we can see how many people take advantage of lfg! It's still a big and important feature and imo a musthave in that game. Im sick of having to use thirdparty apps to find a playerbase or use customgames for it, makes it also harder to report toxic teammates for abusive vc.
For the gold metal system we had and the stats we have now. It’s more toxic to have a scoreboard. Stats don’t matter is some or most cases if you are doing your job or creating opportunities for your team. People flame way more over stats than back then.
Something not said here, was how og quickplay lobbies worked. It would not kick everyone out to menu and just move from map to map. It was so much fun just being in a lobby with the same people swapping teams with people between maps.
at the very least they should bring loot boxes back in countries where it’s legal for the anniversary event, otherwise it’s impossible to get old skins
that's what i was about to say, this guy is the biggest glazer about ow2 and the stuff that got removed he kept clarying why it was removed and trying to agree with the devs on why they did it, I'm out a here dude lmao, can't believe people really still support the devs and try to justify that ow2 is a good game when it is clearly a remonitized ow1 cash grab. It's a shit game that the devs played everyone by hyping up pve to get people to play ow2 then deleting that mode just so the people who were on the hype would play the game without the pve mode and just be thrown into monetized garbage all throughout the game
it's so weird to hear like, the PvE dismissal, the mentions of 'we don't know how open queue/2CP would be played in 5v5', and the medals being dismissed as 'too toxic'. PvE was the compromise from Blizzard for why we were losing OW 1 and why there was no new content, as others have mentioned. dismissing it as 'oh well! lmao' is... weird. especially to then follow it up with 'PvP is the best and where it's at!' as if a good portion of the community haven't been complaining non-stop about the state of PvP since the open beta of Overwatch 2. (also, personal opinion; the PvE gamemodes we have had--which are mainly just the OW 1 event gamemodes and also Wrath of the Bride--are better than any PvP gamemode. it's weird that they forced PvP on us when they're so good at the PvE.) the medals I don't even have to comment on, because the entire comment section has already talked about them. they were great and I miss objective time as a constant stat, in general. I don't care about how much time I've spent speedboosting/healing on Lucio, I want to see my ridiculous objective time because Lijiang Tower Gardens is the easiest Lucio hold in the world, followed by Oasis City Centre, and if I'm forced to play the worst maps in the game, I at least want to see how well my hippity hoppity get off my property tactics are doing. now the primary reason for this comment; we know exactly how open queue/2CP would be played, because they exist in the game. open queue is available in both unranked and competitive and is probably the best PvP in the entire game. when there isn't an event, 2CP is available in arcade. it's actually incredibly fun if you're on attack and a waste of time if you're on defence because you need 6 players per team to play it. honestly, I think they could just turn 2CP into the largest lobbies they can, set it to no limits, and see how long before the servers catch on fire from 20+ Bastions all shooting at the same time. I think it'd be a fun way to end Overwatch 2's life and possibly every Blizzard game's life if they don't get the fire under control.
I think the lootbox system can work, it just needs a slight adjustment to implementation. 1. you outright cannot buy them 2. you get 2 for leveling up (as opposed to 1), and you get 3 for ranking up. they could also keep the battle pass system, but instead of the level progression being only for the battle pass, they bring back the level border system (I'm biased, I had a 3 star silver border). The battle pass system would also give you a bonus lootbox everytime you earned a lootbox (I.E. 3 for leveling, and 4 for ranking up). they also could put battle pass cosmetics from a few seasons past into the loot box pool. This would incentivize players to buy the battle pass, but not make it completely ingrained in the leveling system.
Great video! though you forgot to mention 1 removed feature from ow1 to ow 2. They took away public chat from the main screen!! Even though it was small, I actually really enjoyed just chatting with strangers while waiting for a match, sometimes even find people to queue up with. Now it's so quiet on the main screen :< It was kinda wholesome when just typing into the abyss and some random person 10 min into their dps queue would respond to you
Regarding the monetisation: I am slowly veering towards the side of accepting paid content being there in OW2. HOWEVER, that content needs to be toned down drastically where prices are concerned. Paying 20, even 40 euros/dollars for cosmetics is utter insanity!
That's what I'm thinking! Also for the fact that, that I compared some other games that have in-paid stuff, Blizzard's prices are totally outrageous, especially considering the fact that it's a big million-dollar company
I never understood why lootboxes were controversial. It was literally the best cosmetic system I've ever seen in the pvp competitive game. You get one lootbox with 4 different things every like 30 minutes or so (plus there were plenty of other opportunities to get them) which was absolutely enough and even if you still want more you can buy them for real money. In what way was that controversial? Fair, rewarding system
The only reason they were controversial is because games like cod locked weapons behind the random chance This means you had to pat money just to have a chance at getting the best weapon
The ow lootboxes were great because you can only get cosmetics and you got one for free every time you leveled up And if you got a re roll you could save up the credits to just buy the skin
It was controversial because other games started using them in exponentially more predatory ways, and since OW was the first AAA game to make a lot of money off lootboxes, it made it an easy target for all the anger.
I do like the hero progression system, but I wish it was more noticeable. The only way to really see a player's progression is in their career profile (which most keep private) or in PotG's. If they just put the badge for the hero you're playing in the scoreboard, I think the system would feel more engaging and fun.
i never really cared for borders but my friends used to get to excited over changing them to a prettier one, doenst really make sense to take it out since people that wanna be toxic will be regardless
removing a tank didn’t solve the queue times, going free to play did. there are still stretches where game queues are pretty long but with the player base we have now they will never reach overwatch 1 levels. yes im a 6v6 advocate, and i can admit when 5v5 has done some good, but queue times is not one of them. we’re comparing the queue times of a game that was clearly dying to a bustling city of a game that is overwatch 2. i mean literally i could play overwatch 1 and play against the same people all day long the game was dead in every form of the word.
the issue really isnt that cosmetics are no longer entirely free, its that the battle pass is one of the worst in any modern multiplayer game (you literally need to grind like a year or a few to afford a good skin with the BP's credits), and that legendaries (which arguably have gotten worse in quality) now cost 20 fucking bucks a pop. They are significantly overselling the value of cosmetics, which is the main reason people are pissed over this
12:07 please never forgive or forget what they did to overwatch. "moving past it" is exactly how corporations continue and get away with decisions and scams like this.
Yeah, I remember that Players: we want hero bans devs: got you hero pools it is Players: no, we asked for hero bans devs: la la la la la can't hear you
Cards and borders are the two i personally want back, I never used LFG but the idea makes sense and I don’t know why it was removed. AND HOLY FUCK 2CP NEEDS TO COME BACK, LEARN TO BREAK A CHOKE PEOPLE
The whole loot boxes complaints in OW1 were completely blown out of proportion. I played roughly what could be considered a slightly above avg amount of OW1 and without spending a dime i was able to outright earn/buy every cosmetic i wanted every event. The idea that players needed to dip into their savings to get skins is just not true UNLESS 1. They didnt play the game enough to earn in game credits, and/or did not play outside of events and therefore didn't have built up currency to dump at events 2. Is the wacky completionist mind set where they need every piece/skin/spray/voice line. In either scenario any reason person who plays the games and doesn't just enjoy cosmetics hoarding had everything they could ever want in the OW1 system. The fact that it had complaints and got us changed to the horrendous ow2 system is truly on the players for complaining

No, I heavily disagree with the paid skins over loot boxes
Ow 1 loot boxes was the most fair of any game.
The reason why people want loot boxes is because the monetary system is so predatory, and you can't get the exclusive stuff for free like overwatch 1, you have to buy it even if you had ow1 , they starved us form content in ow1 so they can "build" the campaign and we all see where that got us -_-
Jewish lies
Man that campaign is long gone. Unless they make Overwatch 3

100%
way too risky for a live service to be pay to play in 2024
5:14 OW1 wasn’t getting content for a while because the devs were working on OW2, not because they weren’t making any money from a lack of a battle pass or mythic weapon skins.
Also it's not like they weren't making enough money, they just thought they could make more with a free to play system.
Lootboxes might be fine to you, but it will lead down others into the abyss of gambling. They wouldve kept the loot box system for sure, if they werent at risk getting OW2 banned for gambling in some countries.

Plus the score board isn't even accurate either. It counts "assists" as kills which is utter bull crap.
@@Talonflamez That has always been the case.

I'd rather you not play tank than having to suffer through 6v6 again.

Yeah, he said that the monetization wasn't perfect, he already covered that
Also the battle pass is $10, the other one is a bundle that has like two legendary skins and 2000 OverWatch coins, which yeah is pretty greedy but that's not the battle pass
Tell me your a child that feels unheard at home w/out telling me
After the devs said they scraped pve content, I jumped out, was there from the beggining. And I'm glad that I leave the game.
Thanks, I wish this video mentioned this, and I worry about how many people out there think 2CP just isn't available at all. 😢
6:00 I think the most disappointing result after 8 years and 1600 hrs in Overwatch is that I was 10 levels away from gold border when OW2 came out.
This guy really said:
Looking For Group "a feature that was introduced to serve people who didn't have anyone to play with" was useless, because i have friends to play with :)
Also can we stop with the "oh no one was using it" it was literally Full a day before ow1 server shutdown
People just really like glazing blizzard like they are an indie game company that can't afford to add any good features
Not to say that it's not sometimes a support issue though, just rarely in comparison.
damn 3k on hog your hooks got to be immaculate
I miss the player portraits a lot, even though I never made it very far in OW1 (only reached lvl 272 bronze border) but it was fun to see how little of a life my team had XD
I wanted to get silver frame but I only got to 414 bronze
yeah, if no man's sky can get free updates for nearly 10 years with no shop as far as i know, thats not a rock solid defense, overwatch made a LOT of money from box sales, it made a LOT of money from lootboxes, im not saying the shop doesnt make MORE money, it absolutely does, but they werent hurting for money blizzard is a industry titan that shrugs off major backlash and controverse's monthly
I hate that so much progression based rewards were removed due to "this could be used to be toxic".
'penultimate' is the one right before the final one.
'penultimate' doesn't mean super mega ultimate, it means (ultimate) - (1). in a series of ten, nine is the penultimate and ten is the ultimate.
Thank you! I'm always slightly annoyed when people use it incorrectly. 😅
The LFG feature actually helped my find some of my close friends. I wish they bring some kind of group finder in the future.
Blizzard: remove the metal system and let the exact stats be visible to every player in the lobby! That’ll solve toxicity 😂… nope! And now the person with highest stats doesn’t even get a dopamine hit since they don’t get a metal
Disagree with your medal take, the scoreboard quite literally encourages toxicity now that we can see other teammates and enemies detailed stats.
literally
And it would always be after a match has ended too so flaming was less common during a match so teams would tilt less during matches and win more.
"Widow and sombra do something your dps is horrible!!! "
Widow and sombra sitting on 30+ eliminations and 0 deaths
The scoreboard does not matter 95% of the time
@@darthrevan618 %90 of people forget that you are supposed to read stats based on the characters type of damage and healing. Healing stat is even less important because it more about when you heal than how much. High damage is good even if you are struggling to secure kills because damage is directly tied to pressuring for space.
@@darthrevan618yep. I also hate the scoreboard when everyone telling me to kill myself for having the lowest healing as mercy, like, thats the point
I also remember being able to see the 5 most played heroes when you hover over someone's name in the social tab during a game
Cool it with the bootlicking next time, it’s genuinely embarrassing
hot take:
loot boxes are infinitely better than the new monetization in OW2
Hot take? Thats Fact
Not a hot take at all in my opinion I will pay 60 dollars for a game that I can earn everything in then any free stuff that I'm now forced to play
The coldest take in history. Straight facts.
That's a cold take
@@IcyVegeta HAHAHA thx bro i just miss them i never found them problematic 😭
The loot box system was great in Overwatch, for every three wins in arcade you would get a loot box. You can do that up to 9 wins earning 3 loot boxes, but then you also got 1 loot box for your first win of the day. But you also get it from leveling up, so you can play Overwatch 1 and earn like 6 or 7 loot boxes in a few hours and more than likely you get a legendary skin from that. Something that would cost you real money in Overwatch 2 would be free in Overwatch 1.
I miss the anniversary games back so bad. I loved them so much and made me play hero’s I didn’t like because I didn’t play them but playing them made me understand better and improve.
bro is an open blizzard glazer
Lootboxes were making them money, also overwatch sold 50 mil copies wtf you on about that game doesn't make money.
Got this in my suggested feed. Great video! 🤙🏻 I know how much editing work that was.
HUGE ANIME BREASTS
I used the LFG system a lot. It's part of the reason how I was able to reach Top 500 Support.
Boosted?
@FastracMan Nah, was able to queue up with some teammates who actually cared about peeling for their supports. People will complain about healing while both of their supports are constantly getting jumped🤣.
Plus when using the LFG system you would get more people who cared about winning and comm'ing. So many throwers were in the game around that time. Majority of the reason why the LFG system was implemented.
symettra did not become a damage character the same day the roles were combined she was in the defense category for years
Im suprised people always state "I dont think people used lfg at all"
I don't know if there was a difference between EU and NA servers but I always used to use LFG, actually I remember alot of ppl using it back in the day because it was seen as a reliable way of getting the teammates and compositions you wanted.
Bro you can't blame everything on the community being toxic. In what world would they have to remove the card system because if toxicity????
For the gold metal system we had and the stats we have now. It’s more toxic to have a scoreboard. Stats don’t matter is some or most cases if you are doing your job or creating opportunities for your team. People flame way more over stats than back then.
I miss lootboxes so, so much.
BROOOO IS AN INSIDE PLANT
😭😭😭😭 do not listen to his propaganda
I’m way too high for the time loop of 24:40
Something not said here, was how og quickplay lobbies worked. It would not kick everyone out to menu and just move from map to map. It was so much fun just being in a lobby with the same people swapping teams with people between maps.
at the very least they should bring loot boxes back in countries where it’s legal for the anniversary event, otherwise it’s impossible to get old skins
12:24 you made a mistake here when you said better than it ever has been. might wanna fix that one their
I know it's unpopular but 2cp was my favorite mode in OW1. I know it's still around as an arcade mode, but it's not the same without role lock.
ow2 is the worst most miserable game to ever exist, how can you say it's in the best state ever?!
that's what i was about to say, this guy is the biggest glazer about ow2 and the stuff that got removed he kept clarying why it was removed and trying to agree with the devs on why they did it, I'm out a here dude lmao, can't believe people really still support the devs and try to justify that ow2 is a good game when it is clearly a remonitized ow1 cash grab.
(also, personal opinion; the PvE gamemodes we have had--which are mainly just the OW 1 event gamemodes and also Wrath of the Bride--are better than any PvP gamemode. it's weird that they forced PvP on us when they're so good at the PvE.)
the medals I don't even have to comment on, because the entire comment section has already talked about them. they were great and I miss objective time as a constant stat, in general.
Watering down your sequel for the purpose of profit is textbook poor business. Why would we feel inclined to pay more for less.
I think the lootbox system can work, it just needs a slight adjustment to implementation.
1. you outright cannot buy them
2. you get 2 for leveling up (as opposed to 1), and you get 3 for ranking up.
they could also keep the battle pass system, but instead of the level progression being only for the battle pass, they bring back the level border system (I'm biased, I had a 3 star silver border).
5:11 that wasn't because they ran out of money it's because they were focused on developing overwatch 2
Where do people even find the money to spend 40+ on skins...
@@joegarrison5911 That's what I'm also wondering. They probably must be some CEOs to allow themselves to spend money so much
@@lucifiery2533 i feel like the bp is fairly priced but everything else needs to be toned down in price
@@alp6502 Exactly! BP is a decent price, but 1 legendary costing almost 20$? Or skin bundles going from 40-50$???? Nah that's daylight robbery imo
You forgot the on-fire meter below the player's health bar and the on-fire points
6:50 minor nitpick, but "penultimate" means second-to-last. so if that is the final border, it would be the "ultimate" version
Shut up
I never understood why lootboxes were controversial.
The only reason they were controversial is because games like cod locked weapons behind the random chance
This means you had to pat money just to have a chance at getting the best weapon
The ow lootboxes were great because you can only get cosmetics and you got one for free every time you leveled up
And if you got a re roll you could save up the credits to just buy the skin
It was controversial because other games started using them in exponentially more predatory ways, and since OW was the first AAA game to make a lot of money off lootboxes, it made it an easy target for all the anger.
I do like the hero progression system, but I wish it was more noticeable. The only way to really see a player's progression is in their career profile (which most keep private) or in PotG's. If they just put the badge for the hero you're playing in the scoreboard, I think the system would feel more engaging and fun.
the solo ult on sombre warmed my soul
i never really cared for borders but my friends used to get to excited over changing them to a prettier one, doenst really make sense to take it out since people that wanna be toxic will be regardless
This guy is a d1 ovw2 glazer
Ngga mad
I remember always hearing that Sym should be in the defense role
good times
removing a tank didn’t solve the queue times, going free to play did. there are still stretches where game queues are pretty long but with the player base we have now they will never reach overwatch 1 levels. yes im a 6v6 advocate, and i can admit when 5v5 has done some good, but queue times is not one of them. we’re comparing the queue times of a game that was clearly dying to a bustling city of a game that is overwatch 2. i mean literally i could play overwatch 1 and play against the same people all day long the game was dead in every form of the word.
Tbf queue times were freaking amazing back than also I've been getting queues that lasted like 15 minutes and more
I miss the medals cuz it was quick to just check. Now i have to look at numbers
I love to agree with most of these but when you excuse them removing the card system because of "toxicit" Is ridiculous
24:40 there's a glitch in the matrix
the issue really isnt that cosmetics are no longer entirely free, its that the battle pass is one of the worst in any modern multiplayer game (you literally need to grind like a year or a few to afford a good skin with the BP's credits), and that legendaries (which arguably have gotten worse in quality) now cost 20 fucking bucks a pop. They are significantly overselling the value of cosmetics, which is the main reason people are pissed over this
12:07 please never forgive or forget what they did to overwatch. "moving past it" is exactly how corporations continue and get away with decisions and scams like this.
Yeah, I remember that
Players: we want hero bans
devs: got you hero pools it is
Players: no, we asked for hero bans
devs: la la la la la can't hear you
Cards and borders are the two i personally want back, I never used LFG but the idea makes sense and I don’t know why it was removed. AND HOLY FUCK 2CP NEEDS TO COME BACK, LEARN TO BREAK A CHOKE PEOPLE
It is 6am here and i didnt sleep till now
loser get sleep and think about your life a bit. where its going.
The group finder was GOATED. Miss that thing soo much
The whole loot boxes complaints in OW1 were completely blown out of proportion. I played roughly what could be considered a slightly above avg amount of OW1 and without spending a dime i was able to outright earn/buy every cosmetic i wanted every event. The idea that players needed to dip into their savings to get skins is just not true UNLESS
1. They didnt play the game enough to earn in game credits, and/or did not play outside of events and therefore didn't have built up currency to dump at events
