Briton had abolished slavery in 1833, and Great Britain was patrolling areas of the world to stop slave ships. Many millions of soldiers, both British and commonwealth died in two World Wars, along with non military personnel and civillians. These idiots making these stupid claims are disrespectful to the brave people who lost their lives and made sure they remained free. They have a lack of moral understanding of the real world.

Why on earth should we watch repeat after repeat after repeat! I'm sick of watching "The Titfield Thunderbolt" And "The Darling Buds of May" it's time to scrap the BBC then give it a big overhaul without Gary Liniker and his pals! Why should we pay for a World Service where the public in every country in the world get it for free? And why does the BBC have 40 local radio stations that nobody listens to? When I worked for the MOD back in the 80's, I read the Guardian & Telegraph every day, as it ensured one could see how both sides of the political spectrum were thinking. Even then, it was clear that right of centre thinking was based on an objective appraisal of the facts, whereas left of centre thinking was based on "feelings" & emotion. Nothing has changed much, apart from the left having fewer answers & a greater store of hysteria.
Main problem is that most people will continue to pay the licence fee through fear. They do not face any real competition and therefore are risk free in their bubble.
Around a decade ago I tried reading the Guardian, but gave up. Even then they were on a different planet and I could recognise very little of what they reported as belonging to reality. And no, Rod - I will NOT be reading the Canary. They don't even pretend to be honest.
I am just one of the 64,000,000 people who live in the United Kingdom, I am not overly political having voted for Labour and now the Conservative party, I voted to remain but accepted the vote of the majority, until 2016 I trusted the BBC as being a little biased in its programming but reasonably unbiased in its reporting of the news and current affairs programs but following the referendum it became apparent that something was wrong, terribly wrong, for three years the BBC ceased being unbiased and truthful especially in its coverage of Brexit, put dimply the lied to the very people who by Charter they are pledged to inform. Even though I voted remain I became more and more alarmed at their one sided coverage, one sided audiences, one sided panels and one sided reporting. Like many I thought that with the last General election they would finally understand that the people confirmed their support of Brexit by voting in the Tory party and its leader Boris. But no, the biased reporting became even worse, not taking into account that there is no road map for the terrible pandemic they have chosen to pull down nearly every decision the government has made, sometimes even before reading the policies, this is not for the benefit of of the people it is a direct assault on our democracy once again. One simple example, a Tory adviser, not even a member of Parliament took his son up north when a London became the epicenter of the virus in the UK and he and the Government were hounded at every turn, at the same time a Labour member of Parliament also traveled away from home but there was only a small snippet in the a Media, most people didn’t even realize it had happened, why. There are countless other examples, fair minded people will know this and that’s why we are sick and tired of the BBC and the media in general.

He is given the responsability by the powers that be at the BBC to objectively inform the UK public about this event. He is, however, an activist journalist who is avowedly anti Republican and pro democratic, just check his twitter feed. My question is how does he feel so free to express his personal opinions without any worry about being called to account for this? Was he hired because he's the best to cover this important event or soley because he has the 'right politics for the BBC? Also, why doesn't the spineless government, who effectively gives the BBC a mandate to force people to pay for this, not step in and demand that these activist journalist be removed?

Just to balance the books a little - ‘Rule Britannia’ Thomson and Arne was more like a thanksgiving for the new naval deliverance from the scourge of Islamic - Barbary Coast - pirates and slavers who until that period ruled our coastal waters, abducted sometimes whole coastal communities and sold them into slavery in Africa and the Near East, stole fishing vessels and their crews to much the same purpose, and generally enslaved thousands of English people annually.
This in a general context of slavery having always been practiced from year dot (and used for recruitment purposes in said new navy).
The ‘triangular trade’ which affected Africa had four equal parts to it - if not mistaken - the African Kings; their Muslim employees doing the rounding up; the European merchants (who were not allowed to quit the seaboard when on land); and the fleet owners in the Carib and America - ‘world historical types’ like Columbus and not identifiably European.
The British government did put a stop to this trade - first time ever perhaps as a political principle - in the 1830s - Napoleon had done so earlier for a brief while as part of ideological rhetoric but reverted under need for manpower.
In this Britain is no more tarnished than anyone else; possesses the virtue of having stopped it; and has suffered the same fate as much as others through history - prized slaves on the Roman market.
All is lost - slavery is now at an historical high again and prevalent in Africa. I make little doubt that much happens in the ‘care system’ in UK boroughs of a certain political stripe and ideological predilection.
In short the woman is unChristian and an evident proktophone.

When I worked for the MOD back in the 80's, I read the Guardian & Telegraph every day, as it ensured one could see how both sides of the political spectrum were thinking.
Even then, it was clear that right of centre thinking was based on an objective appraisal of the facts, whereas left of centre thinking was based on "feelings" & emotion.
Nothing has changed much, apart from the left having fewer answers & a greater store of hysteria.

Main problem is that most people will continue to pay the licence fee through fear. They do not face any real competition and therefore are risk free in their bubble.
Around a decade ago I tried reading the Guardian, but gave up. Even then they were on a different planet and I could recognise very little of what they reported as belonging to reality.

Not watched or listened to BBC for 30 years now.
I am just one of the 64,000,000 people who live in the United Kingdom, I am not overly political having voted for Labour and now the Conservative party, I voted to remain but accepted the vote of the majority, until 2016 I trusted the BBC as being a little biased in its programming but reasonably unbiased in its reporting of the news and current affairs programs but following the referendum it became apparent that something was wrong, terribly wrong, for three years the BBC ceased being unbiased and truthful especially in its coverage of Brexit, put dimply the lied to the very people who by Charter they are pledged to inform. Even though I voted remain I became more and more alarmed at their one sided coverage, one sided audiences, one sided panels and one sided reporting. Like many I thought that with the last General election they would finally understand that the people confirmed their support of Brexit by voting in the Tory party and its leader Boris. But no, the biased reporting became even worse, not taking into account that there is no road map for the terrible pandemic they have chosen to pull down nearly every decision the government has made, sometimes even before reading the policies, this is not for the benefit of of the people it is a direct assault on our democracy once again. One simple example, a Tory adviser, not even a member of Parliament took his son up north when a London became the epicenter of the virus in the UK and he and the Government were hounded at every turn, at the same time a Labour member of Parliament also traveled away from home but there was only a small snippet in the a Media, most people didn’t even realize it had happened, why. There are countless other examples, fair minded people will know this and that’s why we are sick and tired of the BBC and the media in general.

The BBC reporter covering the US presidential elections is called Anthony Zurcher . He is given the responsability by the powers that be at the BBC to objectively inform the UK public about this event.
He is, however, an activist journalist who is avowedly anti Republican and pro democratic, just check his twitter feed. My question is how does he feel so free to express his personal opinions without any worry about being called to account for this? Was he hired because he's the best to cover this important event or soley because he has the 'right politics for the BBC?
Also, why doesn't the spineless government, who effectively gives the BBC a mandate to force people to pay for this, not step in and demand that these activist journalist be removed?
