  • In this video I install a AFR guage in my 1978 ford bronco. The carburetor is from Amazon and the AFR guage is AEM brand wide band. I have trouble in the vid getting a good reading until I advance my timing. Truck runs like a champ now. Thanks for watching!

    Man I miss my 79 Bronco. I sold it a few months ago and picked up a 72 Gran Torino but you're really making me want to get back into a 2nd gen! Truck sounds great man. I always preach throwing an AFR gauge in carb'd vehicles. It helped me dial in my 65 mustang to a tee. More bronco vids!

      You should check out all my other vids on this bronco. It’s come a long way. Very happy with this crappy old $600 junkyard machine.

    Autolite carb jets are different from Holley jets (the Holley jets won't thread in). You can get Autolite jets from Mike's Carburetors, along with a brass float and other carb parts/kits).

    Awesome video. It's important to use the wideband more as a guide than an absolute. The engine will tell you exactly what it wants.

      Thinking about adding a vacuum gauge for tuning too. Truck now has a 4bbl summit 600 cfm carb on it and it’s running in the mid 12s.

    If buy a carb can you just switch the jets they were in the old old one and set the mix screws the same as the old one and your
    Good to go?

      Only if the carb was tuned before. In my experience most carbs are running very rich and I think the amazon carb will give you a better air fuel mixture. You can easily swap jets from your old carb. Thanks for the comment.

    Did you adjust the carbs float 13/16" and jet cuz that's gonna give better fuel economy and idle yet leaner that might of been why it used 63 jets or 57. Mine had a bad float level and hills your gonna find out ruin ur economy because well the float level is to high so fuel just dumps into the boosters not to mention your idle won't be smooth on hilly areas. Im going threw it right now man i got a ford 2.8L v6 and it would run like garbage without that 13/16" adjustment and jetting up.

      I set the floats to level but my pump was definitely set to high. I’m running a summit 600 now and dealing with the same issue

    For future information, a silver dollar sized magnet would have probably kept the gauge in place for you.
    Most 'universal' carbs are jetted rich to reduce the chance of engine dame for people who don't know how to fine tune them.

      @Notafordguy  Рік тому

    You were modifying the wrong circuit. Cruising is done through the main jets. Where you went lean was in the power circuit. Where that gets sticky is that in some carburetors, like Holleys, that's not easy to modify.

      I am using the summit 600 cfm on this truck but I use the carb regularly as a tool to start up motors so I can test them before I list them on marketplace. As far as a 2 barrel goes I highly recommend it.
