I am currently working as a game designer previously worked in other areas.
I like how you mentioned that you want to learn the essence of After Effects and what it can do. Its a great software that allows for so much so you choosing to step out your comfort zone and use its features more is really smart. :) this will benefit you in the long run for sure.
