Agree with so many of your points, we are the same, we stay away from click bait thumbnails because we hate them ourselves and will not watch a channel again if they have done that. We know the negative thumbnails also do better, and the ones that show the location do not. We hear a lot of people won't watch channels that have the discount code etc mainly if they have one every single episode or if they have more than one in an episode. It gets to be more like its about them getting their $$$ than actually caring about the content. We don't do weekly videos because my mental health doesn't cope with that schedule, however it is certainly a lot of pressure to get the weekly ones out, we really respect people who can do that, but it also makes some content not so great (not saying your content, but in general) as they are putting out content because they "have to". Then people get burnt out, or aren't actually seeing and enjoying their locations they are at as they are constantly looking at everything from behind a lens. We have certainly seen some UA-camrs (won't mention names) who have put up videos when they have had huge fire pits right in the middle of summer when they are banned, digging trenches to slow cars down etc, yes others may do it, but its not up for everyone to see. That is one reason Perlubie was changed. Will be interesting to see how your thumbnail experiments go. PS we are in Denham now and don't like that we have to pay to visit Monkey Mia when we also do not wish to see the dolphins!!
Yeh we get all those points! Weve not been able to meet the weekly quota lately, is good when i can sit and get a few videos done and have them lined up scheduled for the upcoming weeks but I eventually catch up and fall behind again. We won’t be sticking to the negative ones, even though testing is showing its working i really dislike doing it unless its warranted so will just stick to being us, people will find us if they look. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Safe travels guys, might see you in WA soon
As someone who watches a lot of travelling UA-camrs the thumbnail is honestly the last thing I read - if I like them I watch them regardless. I prefer the families who aren’t all about the scenic views or the perfect beaches, I love the ones who give us a great insight to their family life as well and day to day life in general. I watch the creators as if they are family so family life is something I love to see, and the Whittles and Svedos do it so well. Just keep being true to yourself, and keep doing what you originally set out to do , make memories to look back on. I feel there’s easier ways to make an income in the road. I’m happy with watching your episodes as they are and hopefully others are too ❤
Yeh we are the same with our regulars that we watch, the click bait and negative thumbnails is the technique used to reach new audience, ive always hoped the new audience would just find us anyway and choose to follow along if they enjoyed it. Don’t worry we will just continue to be us
I understand what people say, as Svedo says, but I don't necessarily agree that youtubers are to blame. What I see is that people just want to get out more and enjoy themselves, but unfortunately, everyone has the same idea, hence the amount of people out there. What we need is for everyone to be friendly, think about what they are doing isn't just selfish and make sure they respect others.
New Subbie, just watched this over on Brett's channel... It was great to see what you have to actually do to put out a video to entertain us... and yes, don't like click bait thumbnails, and I don't mind the odd discount commercial, but that doesn't mean I watch it, I will usually skip forward to where the video starts again. Cheers for sharing...
Hey thanks for jumping across to leave us a comment, hope you enjoy what we have to offer, still with the Svedo family for a while so you will see some more collaborations happening too. Thanks again
Great video, first time I have sat through a whole hour I reckon. I have a small channel, bit different to you guys, and no interest in the money side of things but it has started to pop up recently. Interesting to hear your views and I totally agree. I watch reviews to learn about stuff before I buy something, the charlatans are pretty see through so I value the creators that are genuine and talk about kit they actually use. Thumbs are tricky, hard to get the balance right. I hate the negativity on some channels but get it too. I always tell people where I am, feel a bit differently in that I want people to get out and experience the world, but also hate if nimrods leave a mess. Again, such a balance. There are so many 'templates' everyone seems to use, accessories, tops 10s, tricks and tips etc. I am guilty but as you say, only to give my thoughts, not to ape someone else. Anythoot, great video, glad it popped up on my screen. I'd never been pushed either of your channels but will check them out. Thanks fellas, keep talking up this great country✌🏻
Haha thanks for sitting through it all, we did quite enjoy filming a very unscripted chat in that way. The girls will go next and we might film another more about being dads on the road. Your right it is all a balance and depends what you want from it is guess, theres ways you can maximise it but i would rsther just be genuine and creste something im proud of.
Great video. I see where you are coming from in regard to sponsoring products, you do need to make a living on the road. I just dont like the over the top of pushing a product. I haven't unsubscribed from certain channels, just dont watch them any more. One of my pet dislikes is when all i see is their face when they are saying how beautiful this place is 😂 wouldn't know can't see it! As for the negative thumb nails, I personally don't like them. We are very lucky that a lot of the places you have been too, we visited long before they became so popular! It is a shame that there are a lot of free camps being closed because of miss use. All the best to you and Brett and families on your travels, have a wonderful Christmas and stay safe!!
Thanks for watching, yeh we don’t like the iver the top pushing either, we got persuaded in the eary days to buy products that certain people promoted and they were just rubbish, lost my trust which is why i do it the way i do. We hate the negative thumbnails too, its such a trend at the moment. We hope you have a great Christmas season too, will be on us in no time. Take care
I have commented on the Svedos channel and respect where you guys are coming from. I do enjoy your channel and seeing your boys grow. For me it’s more about the family aspect of being on the road and of course the fabulous videos of our beautiful country. We are now in our seventies and I love seeing the destinations we haven’t been to in our travels. Keep enjoying your family time and the memories you are making. ❤❤👍👍👍
Hi Mark, we’ve followed Svedos Trippin’ for a few years now, and have commented on this video on that channel. We really liked your approach and honesty, and love that you aren’t interested in “selling yourself out”. We have now both subscribed to your channel. We hope your channel grows, as we realise what you are up against. I am only subscribed to two (now three😁) caravanning channels, and that suits me. It is unbelievable how many subscribers the click bait, expensive vans & tow vehicles, and bikini channels have, but each to their own. We look forward to checking out your videos. Safe travels to your little family, and “see” you soon. Corrie and Lyn ❤️
Hey! Thank you for jumping across to our channel, Brett was quite excited to see you comment on ours Welcome to our channel and we hope you enjoy the past and future videos of ours. We will still be with the Svedos for a while so a few more collabs to come. Thanks again!
This was a great video guys. I totally agree with the reason for camp spots are closing down, people are not respecting them, I have cleared up some shocking mess from others. So UA-cam is not doing it. I watch a handful of UA-camrs and love them regardless of the thumb nail. Cheers Judy
Thanks Judy, yeh the Thumbnail bait i believe is targeted to attract the new audience rather then retain the existing audience, hopefully once people find us they just enjoy the videos regardless of the thumbnail and title
Friday night deja vu.... Loved both of your vlogs boys. Awesome discussion. You should get Mel and Clem to do a discussion/vlog on Mum life on the road. Enjoy your time together, stay safe.
You could get the kids to do a vlog on what it's like for them to travel Australia. Kaylee's done an awesome job on your past post's, would be interesting to see it through their eyes.
The trouble I have with brand ambassadors is, a matter of trust, I have the same trust issues with used car salesmen. They are both selling something for a living.
Well done guys, Mark you know my thoughts on affiliated marketing and the click bait thumbnails. Yeah we only done close to two years on the road but thankfully the water filter scams were just taking off.
I had to stop watching you guys because of the negative thumbnails and the red and yellow writing it was obviously click bait.I love to see the positive ones because it show the excitement and the arrival of new spots and places.
Well a very interesting discussion to listen to and different as well from the normal sit down chit chats. Regarding the click baits, - a necessary evil requirement grown from social media, we dislike it, however we will still watch our regulars channels despite it. We won’t however watch video from an unknown channel that has used this growing trend. Regarding adds, we respect that you need the income from them, however they are annoying, particular ones that can go one for w while and are in every video that is aired. We pay a premium membership by choice on UA-cam so we don’t have to watch the adds that UA-cam puts on, the last thing we want is adds that we have no choice but have to watch. We know from the algorithm that UA-cam has, that you get a better income if we the subscribers watch your whole video, and not fast forward or skip any of it. So we don’t skip any of it, we watch from beginning to end. There is channel we watch now, and they put their adds on from their sponsorship, I now fast forward those. So that is our feedback for you. Ditto these comments for Svedo’s 😂. Looking forward to the next video Mark, keep up the great work.
Ads are a funny one, i only ever chosento put skippable ones on as id prefer my audience to enjoy my content and not be stuck watching ads but UA-cam has taken away the choice now unfortunately.
I watch channels I can relate to. And I totally agreed with your Monkey Mia views and had no issue with the thumb nail. It did draw me to watch the vlog as I related to it. I also have no issue with sponsorships and recommendations-it’s when it starts to get out of hand that my trust starts to erode. I must admit I’ve unfollowed a couple of channels who change vans every other year for the reason that it’s not something that I can relate to.
Thats pretty well how my viewing has evolved, ive stopped watching some of the bigger channels mainly because i can not relate to them anymore not because theyve done anything wrong really. Thanks for taking the time to warch and comment.
Thanks to you both I hate the click bait , I watch you both every week not for the negative but for your wonderful family and travels. I recently subscribed to Svedos Trippin, I was one of their viewers but hadn't clicked the button but I was feeling bad so they also have another follower.. I've stopped following a few channels because of their over the top setups (that they say they all work very hard for) don't we all & bikini thumbnails continuously.
I have clicked on a positive thumbnail of yours only for it to change to a negative one. If I had waited a little longer and the negative one showed up I would not click on it knowing that it is some sort of click bait. I have unsubscribed from a few people now because of either the negative thumbnail or they put there partner in a bikini just for clicks. I will always click on the positive ones. We see a lot of youtubers write they give up or something broke or they are stranded only to see nothing happened or it it wasn't that bad and help was only around the corner. Please don't go down the negative thumbnail hole we love watching you.
Hahaha yea exactly our thoughts too! No we won’t be continuing with the negative thumbnails, only done it for the past few videos so we could gather data for this video while also having the positive there. I hate making the negative ones myself. Thanks for following along and clicking those positive ones
I would blame WikiCamps before UA-cam! What I am concerned about is UA-camrs promoting selling everything they own and travelling Australia. So many young families lives will be ruined due to coming back to nothing after discovering it’s not all bells & whistles?
Can be an interesting argument that one, and after doing this for four years spending this time with our kids i could comfortably argue both sides of it. But lets not so that here, it may be something i chat about in another video
Good video guys. I try not to fall into the click bate thumb nails. The endless bikini girls grate on me so I try not to watch those ones. I do think you tubers have promoted a lot of the once hidden spots but I’m grateful as my wiki camps map has lots of ❤places I can’t wait to see now and may not have heard of unless they were filmed. Keep up the good honest content. 👍
The thumbnail clickbait test only works for non subscribers, as a subscriber I’m clicking anyway and we only get whatever one UA-cam give us but I do put off watching the obvious ones until I’ve run out of other content 😊
Drones that is a big thing with me. I like the shots I get from them but i'm also aware of the rules and regulations that come with flying them. Just recently I watched a video from a UA-cam creator that was filmed at Kalbarri National Park particuarly at the Sky Walk, as you walk down the path that leads to the Skywalk there is a very prominate sign that states no Drones to be flown. But i guess the rules didnt apply to them as straight away they had drone footage. I see this happening all too regularly on other channels, flying over houses, people, caravan parks and even one that flew over a passenger ferry at a very low height. if people keep doing this then we will end up losing the right to fly our drones.
Yeh i do agree, WA is funny though. Legally you can fly your drone in the national parks aslong as you follow the CASA regs so I can see why they do it but it should never cause a nuisance to fellow visitors and when we were there people were launching and landing on the skybridge way too close to other people so obviously don’t know the drone rules. Your right it will ruin it for everyone. If someone is willing to go out there early before everyone else and get a shot i personally have no issue with that, but not when everyone is there
@ Yup you are right WA allows drones in most national parks unless otherwise signed. And there is a sign as you walk down the path to the Skywalk from the car park. I just think people choose to ignore the rules and fly the drone because they want to get shots that other people who follow rules can’t.
Good video Mark, have been following you since early days and the the thumbnails don’t influence who I watch, once we have subscribed then we watch all episodes. I do think that that what you have done with this episode is copy of off track yarns a little too close.
Yes quite possibly, hence the shoutout to them to give them a bit of promotion too. Its funny how UA-cam can feel like a competition when I would actually rather see people succeed if they are creating genuinely good content
@ I agree and at the end of the day,no one is forcing us to watch so no harm done,if you don’t like what you see don’t watch, simples. Please keep up what you do,we have just retired and rely on utube for ideas and reviews it is our main source of social media entertainment, let’s face it the free too air tv is bloody awful, people bag trip in a van but I believe they started this and I still to this day watch and remain loyal followers
Stopped watching TIAV due to the G string thing 🙄 Also due to promoting one product as the best then jumping ship to another🤦🏻 If you’re going to support a brand stick with it and be loyal. What I personally don’t like is my FB feed then being flooded with that advertising/promotion…
Two strikes and your out! I like it. Well please ignore my last couple that were made for testing purposes. It won’t be continuing, i really dislike making a thumbnail like that
Had to think hard to work out who S@K were? I stopped watching them months ago. Bloody shame as we absolutely loved them at the beginning. Same as TIAV..
Agree with so many of your points, we are the same, we stay away from click bait thumbnails because we hate them ourselves and will not watch a channel again if they have done that. And thanks for the shout out ❤
Your welcome guys, hope your travelling well!
I have just watched you and Brett on Brett’s channel. Exciting to have found your channel - you have a new subscriber. 🌺😁
Thanks for jumping across and welcome, we hope you enjoy our channel too
Glad you found them, the whittles are genuine and lovely and it's why we are besties 😊

Couldn’t agree more and 95% of fellow travellers are just that, theres only a few we meet that leave a sour taste afterwards

Hey guys keep doing what you do best. I love watching and seeing places that I didn’t get to see when we did on our around Oz trip. Great memories!

Great information
Very informative
Well done boys
Great content
Well done xoxo
Your turn next, we have had the requests
Good video boys, some interesting topics to entice comments and conversation.
Thanks! Glad you got somethinf out of it.
Thanks for watching
Well done mark true and honest
Thanks for watching!
New sub! We are total newbies at caravanning(not camping) and really appreciate your videos! Thanks!
The trouble I have with brand ambassadors is, a matter of trust, I have the same trust issues with used car salesmen. They are both selling something for a living.
Yeh we touched on that in there aswell, building trust and maintaining that integrity is an important part of affiliate marketing
Left a comment on Bretts channel but well done
Thank you! Appreciate the feedback
Well done guys, Mark you know my thoughts on affiliated marketing and the click bait thumbnails. Yeah we only done close to two years on the road but thankfully the water filter scams were just taking off.
Haha yeh lets not go down that rabbit hole 😅
Hey guys great video and just fyi yours came up in recommendation before Svedos.
Haha yew! I get one point 😅 thanks for watching guys!
@ 😂
Thanks mate! 😁
I had to stop watching you guys because of the negative thumbnails and the red and yellow writing it was obviously click bait.I love to see the positive ones because it show the excitement and the arrival of new spots and places.
Your most welcome
Sorry Mark
I skipped all the Ads on this one as I enjoyed it so much😂
Haha by all means. I used to choose to only have skippable ads but YT took away our control in that area now
I watch channels I can relate to. And I totally agreed with your Monkey Mia views and had no issue with the thumb nail. It did draw me to watch the vlog as I related to it.
Great video Guys and I know we’ve had very similar conversations! Devastated we weren’t one of your top watch channels,😂.
Aww sorry guys! I missed Bryce and Chelsea too, mind just went to what i have watched recently. Hope your travelling well!
@ haha it’s all good. We really enjoyed the episode!
We do enjoy a discount code and have bought several products using it.
So have we haha! We always scan to see if one exists before buying anything

@ Yup you are right WA allows drones in most national parks unless otherwise signed. And there is a sign as you walk down the path to the Skywalk from the car park. I just think people choose to ignore the rules and fly the drone because they want to get shots that other people who follow rules can’t.
Some thumbnails are so obviously, click bate, I generally , do not watch it. I have deleted some of my subscription because of it.
Yeh we tend to not click on those ones ourselves out of our own personal preference
We are the same. Hopefully it sends a message.
Couldn’t agree more 👍
Good video Mark, have been following you since early days and the the thumbnails don’t influence who I watch, once we have subscribed then we watch all episodes.
Yeh theyve never done anything wrong by me, i only stopped watching because i couldn’t relate anymore once i was out here doing it
Stopped watching TIAV due to the G string thing 🙄
Also due to promoting one product as the best then jumping ship to another🤦🏻
If you’re going to support a brand stick with it and be loyal.
What I personally don’t like is my FB feed then being flooded with that advertising/promotion…
Yeh i hadn’t seen TIAV do that but ive seen other creators do it and it rubs me the wrong way
I only allow You Tubers two click baits then I turn off their subscription eg S@k JV it and few others
S@K OMG that is just cringe worthy now.
Two strikes and your out! I like it. Well please ignore my last couple that were made for testing purposes. It won’t be continuing, i really dislike making a thumbnail like that
I personally haven’t watched one of theirs in a very long time, i don’t relate to them anymore
Had to think hard to work out who S@K were?
I stopped watching them months ago.
Bloody shame as we absolutely loved them at the beginning. Same as TIAV..
We have stopped watching some of our favourite UA-camrs because of their introduction of Thumbnail/Click bait🥲
Yeh likewise for us too
