Love your determination and unrelenting mindset Ben. You have a really solid "control room" (top two inches) to deal with the mental and physical challenges. That is CHARACTER BUILDING! I always really enjoy watching your hunts, as someone else said you have a real nack for cimemaphotography in those hard to get to remote places. You are definitely the modern day adventurer mate, thanks for sharing and I can't wait to see your reaction when you finally decide to pull that trigger. Will be one to remember for sure
Cheers mate, the mountains are the best place to build character cause they literally hard wire your brain never to quit, because quitting can result in desire consequences. In mission 3 that walk in was the greatest test of survival I've ever had...hence why not much filming was done haha I love the saying from David Goggins, "you have to live in the gutter to get hard" which is so bloody true. Taking your mind and body to the most uncomfortable places is the only way to build that mental toughness. Mate your not wrong when I do finally find that class mature stag I've been looking for, it will be a highly emotional time!
You are an absolute legend, my friend. Based in Christchurch myself too. I'd invite you around for a beer, but would be too worried you'd drag me along on one of these crazy missions. I'll stick to my weekend hunts thank you!
Cheers mate, as long as your spending quality time in the wilderness, then happy days! It's just so important to connect with the natural world for our mental health.
You’ve redefined Epic Ben, full respect to you! Neat footage and pictures. What tent were you using for that last mission? My motto in life is to die with memories not dreams; you to will have plenty of great memories! Love it.
100% couldn't agree more, memories bring smiles to your face at all times. I couldn't imagine anything worse than just dreaming about something rather than actually doing it. For the last 2 year's I've used the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2. Its required a bit of repair but an absolutely fantastic lightweight tent.
Adding to the tent question it would be great to see a pack dump on what gear you take on the expedition hunts Again big thumbs up on sharing your adventures 👍👍
Awesome, really liked the mirror image of the mountains in that lake near the end, alot of country covered for not many animals, bit of shame really, deer deserve to be roaming in those places. What model pack do you use on those big trips? Cheers
Oh mate its a real shame to have what was once prime country for deer, to be a ghost town! I literally dream of securing a truly wild stag thats a solid 2 day walk in, unfortunately WARO makes that an incredibly hard task. I currently use Ospreys Aether 75L pack, but I do have dry bags that I attach to it on big trips. I've used the tatonka bison 75L in previous years, however I much prefer the Osprey pack as its much lighter and has a superior warranty.
Hey Ben, really enjoyed you taking on journey. I reckon you should be in cinematography as you got a gift fir capturing good stuff👍🏼. Keep doin what you do bro - bloody superb 😜
Cheers Brutha, its a real passion of mine and when I'm passionate about something I always pursue excellence in that field. The effort I put into this film really paid off with a solid end product. Hope your getting out into the hills as well bro!
Hey Ben DB, brad here - Rrita’s other half. I’d be keen to hook up some time as I really enjoy the way y our capture the “goodness”. I’m sure I can learn a bit from you. Def good mates who are Keen to meet also👍🏼. Reets tells me you hate the free diving & that’s cool - hunting it is 😜. Flick me a txt if u like & we can go from there
Hey Bro! Cheers bro, I'm glad that other hunter/gathers can enjoy the beauty of the wilderness via film. For sure bro, happy as to pass on what I've learned over the years. Easiest way to liaise would be to hit me up on facebook (same as youtube). Oh btw that butterfish you gave me was all class, really appreciated it!
Very cool, makes a nice change from the ‘sponsored’ intros, car yarning and shooting off a track vids out there.
