- I Bought a LIQUID DAMAGED Xbox Series X to Try and Fix - A viewer sent this in for me to try to fix. He said there was liquid spilled inside the Xbox Series X and now the components inside are really sticky. Hopefully I can get it torn down, cleaned up, and fully working again.

Someone needs to tell the previous owner that the Series X and mini fridge are 2 different products 😂
Lol!
How can I message you
That was fast thinking , that was a good reply
👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️
@@Tronicsfix What is the information or website I can use to buy some of the items you fix ?
Look at this, you can even see the difference! ~Billy Mays
I wanted to thank you, your youtube videos inspired me to get a degree in Electronic Technology and pursue a career in this field. When the pandemic kicked off I didn't know what to do. I started watching your videos and started fixing things and have been loving it ever since. Thank you again.
Somebody was using their Xbox as a table.
Dang you beat me to it. I was gonna say. “ I know it’s tall people but that doesn’t make it a table.”
I was about to comment that
@@Sacren365 Lol!
Well I need to put my Halo edition Code Red Mountain Dew somewhere.
Yeah it was me I used to eat my boyfriend over my Xbox
Great video, that was a fairly easy repair. Good thing the liquid didn't get to the main board.
I'm still surprised at how little damage was in this. Pretty good design to avoid liquid damage to the most important components.
@@Tronicsfix With its design, it was probably the main concern at Microsoft, they probably tried a lot of stuff to get it mostly right, as perfection doesn't exist, well except the Nintendo Game Cube.
the video says it came out 4 hours ago but your comment is 2 days old. Time Traveler confirmed? Witch?
@@SoaRFennec maybe he's a member and gets early access to videos? Video is 8 days old, but both comment, and Steve's reply are 10 days old.
As a note, water and soap are going to be much better solvents for soda than IPA. You usually can just use some distilled water to clean up the soda, then use IPA to clean up/displace any leftover water. Or just use 70% IPA and leave things to dry a bit more.
On a more important note, an ultrasonic is better than any manual cleaning a human can do. Branson FC at 50C for 10 minutes.... perfection
Theres a product i think you might like called LPS no flash 2.0. its an electrical contact cleaner that we use on industrial motor controls and distribution equipment at my work. It can be used on live circuits, it literally eats through corrosion and residues. I get it off Graingers but you can probably find it elsewhere.
Where you used a toothbrush you could have used a small makeup brush (like for eyeshadow). It's small, can have stiffer bristles, and cleans well. I mentioned in another video's comment section that you should consider using them instead of cotton swabs altogether, but this was the perfect situation where the eyeshadow brush would have shone.
Great video Steve. I always enjoy watching your videos. I ordered a couple of your T-Shirts. They arrived about a week after I ordered them and they are some of my favorites. I ordered, "I'm Here Because You Broke Something" and "If It Ain't Broke, I'll Fix It Til It Is" shirts. Thank You for them.
One thing I am SO grateful for TronoicsFix is an awareness of how much dust and debris gets into my consoles. It’s just one of those things I never thought about. But now, I take the time to clean those suckers off every once and awhile. It takes a lot of time but I would be embarrassed to have my modern console go dead because of dust bunnies.
I love your content ,I’ve been looking your videos for many years now and enjoy every minute of it
This man deserves 10+M subs! Love to watch your videos!
Great job! You know i'm always amazed by how people abuse their expensive systems. I mean don't have liquid near it, it's really not hard.
A small child can get liquids anywhere 😁
Love your videos !! the way you explain everything it's simple and great !!!
Thanks! So glad you enjoy these
alot of love from romania, i like to watch your videos because it is very relaxing
Love the repair vidoes man! And that shirt is awesome!
Great video as always. Congrats! :)
To remove sugar-based residue from plain metal: hot water on a Q-Tip or, better, a larger swab. The water has to be kept near boiling while you're working to ensure it's hot enough to efficiently dissolve the sugar.
That is so true, water is much more efficient for sugar-resedues than alcohol
I use 91% Isopropyl alcohol to clean boards. But not with a Q tip. You can rinse the whole board using a soft brush. Just rinse all the goo off the edges of a tilted up board.
@TronicsFix Check out the cards used for cleaning credit card readers. Its a thin felt card that is covered in IPA. You could cut it into the size needed for cleaning the ribbon cable connectors.
The Perfect Weekend always Starts best, when Steve makes a Video and inside comes The Perfect amount of Thermalpaste 🙏 thank you Steve.
Great as always! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hello TronicsFix! I used to work a bit as a repairmen at a bigger company that sold prorierty computer solutions. There were quite a few models that used glue to fix cables and connectors and such, and repairing them might have seemed like a nightmare but we had a simple fix. We used cold spray, like canned air but the extruded gas was at like -50C. This made removing glue super easy, it turned the glue into a single brittle object, and the adhesion also lessened quite a lot, it usually just popped off scraping at it with your finger nails. I don't if you knew of this, but if not, this is a very neat addition to a toolkit for repairing.
Nothing beats a whole sticky madness inside a game console, jummy!
Amazing 👏 work
How do you even get liquid on a console? I've owned consoles starting with Atari back in the 80s all the way up through today with Xbox 360/Nintendo Wii being the last consoles I've purchased and not once have I ever gotten liquid anywhere near a single one of them.
Carelessness lmao.
It's interesting how you keep getting PAL games in consoles. I'm using you live in the USA, might be wrong.
Love watching your repairs as always.
Great video Tronics that Xbox was dirty lol. What’s the best way of cleaning the outside of Series X without scratching or causing any damage?
I've said it before and I'll say it again you're a true superhero to all us gamers! Thank you 🎉👏🎉
Good stuff man!
Great work!
Thanks!
With a repair like this, i would go to town with the IPA. no point is being sparingly with cleaning, the sticky soda will only come back when its warm or damp conditions like in a normal home.
Some day I might have to dig in to my XBox One and after watching so many of your videos I feel like I should be able to handle "simple" repairs (simple being a relative term). But all that soldering you do? No way.
Bonus disk you definitely earned it for all your hard work
For sugar based corrosion I like to use a 80/20 mix of Isopropanol and water, as a 100% mix of just Isopropanol is quite ineffective against sugar :)
I know you'll fix it lol you're awesome brother! 💯💙
Wow you are a genius!!
On the larger components have you thought of using pre-moistened Isopropanol wipes instead of the small cotton buds
Hey TronicsFix, can u please make a video on replacing an HDMi chip of PS3 slim? Like what sorts of voltage reading should one expect from the chip and the port in order to identify no signal issue?
New idea for a drinking game: Watch your liquid damage videos and every time you say liquid, you take a shot. Should be hammered in about 8 mins! Love your work, it's the best part of my day when you post!
Good stuff man
Great video.
Would you mind making a video on how to solder or do you have any recommendations on what would be a good way to start learning?

I love your shirt, “Im here because you broke something” 😂😂
one advice buy those ultrasonic cleaners even a cheap small one, instead of cotton/ipa but great vid :3
I use a ultrasonic cleaner for my liquid damaged items and have had very good results.
That requires a large cleaner? Sounds cool.
I use 91% Isopropyl alcohol to clean boards. But not with a Q tip. You can rinse the whole board using a soft brush. Just rinse all the goo off the edges of a tilted up board.
Would a sonic cleaner help?? I can not remember if it is you or another electronic fix channel that I watch??
I am curious if the can of liquid spray clearer you showed before could help lossen up the gunk on the aluminum ?
Distilled water is perfect for removing sugar based drinks i.e. cola, coffee etc. Dissolves it really quickly.
I use 91% Isopropyl alcohol to clean boards. But not with a Q tip. You can rinse the whole board using a soft brush. Just rinse all the goo off the edges of a tilted up board.
I hope to see a bit more complicated repairs. Those are always interesting.
Unfortunately, there's no way for me to know how complicated these types of repairs are going to be. I actually expected this one would be more difficult to repair.
Love the video
Glad to hear it!
I've been wondering what do you do to the stuff you do fix
He's some type of wizard to just flip the heatsink in half like that @1:50 wowie! 0_0 *Mindblown!*
Great job as always. Blows my mind though you did not take the disc drive apart just to clean it. Just looking at the rest of the console I bet it was full of dust too. Just even clean the laser.
great job!
Thanks!
Do you ever give dirty components a non-conductive submerged bath? I've seen lots of restoration videos use them to clean stuff but it never seems right! Would you advise against it?
Ahh even more cleaning we got hair and debris down here..🤣🤣 his reactions crack me up.
Great that you were able to accomplish this. For the future - if the liquid damage was by sweet drinks it is better to clean it with distilled water :-)
Why is that? Because the water dissolves the sugar and sticky stuff? Makes sense I guess!
Next video idea fixing a water damged gaming pc
Also keep up the great work ❤❤❤
Do you sell the consle after you fix them and if so where?
Lol I almost gagged watching this tear down and hearing you describe it 😂
after watchign you tear this down I think I need to rewatch your cleaning video as mine is 9 months old and I fear dust has gotten in now.
I enjoy your videos very very much and I hope you have a great day and Do you have any ps4 l could have please.
I want to see the console mods again! ps5 cooling damn
MAF cleaner for cars works great for dirty circuit boards. It’s just aerosol isopropyl
Why you are not using ultrasonic bath in such cases? It can clean the board much better.
u did it thanks!
Can you not use water on the metal and plastic since sugar will not desolve in alcohol. You can dry immediately then use the alcohol
You always save the day to these poor consoles
great fix
What’s the brand of thermal paste you use
Reminds me of Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory when he goes to the library and touches a table. “Oh my that is sticky”.
Weirdly enjoyable watching it get cleaned lol
Would liquid not be visible with one of those UV lights or whatever they use in teen movies to check for bodily fluids?
Nice easy one, just a good clean
I'm actually really impressed with the design of this system. They crammed a lot of components in a small space lol.
Instead of a dust bunny, you discovered a fuzzy soda bunny. That should go in a science book somewhere...
How do you manage to get liquid in an Xbox? Usually it is sitting over by the TV.
Was going to ask how does one get soda in their Xbox... then I saw the COD disc and it answered all my questions.
You can clean soda, wine or sugary drinks with distilled or de-ionized water and then with alcohol
Hi just see if make video on how to fix or help with disc drive vibration when the Xbox series x console is upright I ant put in till now and the right vibration noise when it's on its side the no vibration I have no warranty as I've had it over a year
Steve, you can wash the boards with simple green and water. Use a paint brush to scrub the junk off. Then put in front of a fan to dry for a day or use an air compressor to blast the water off. I do this on arcade boards and it works great. Just dry them good and you should be fine.
Is it possible to make a liquid cooled xbox
One time we got an xbox 360 slim in that had, we think, milk spilled in the fan vent. That curdled mess was used as a parts system.
Miracle worker right here.
At around the 9:00 mark you might wanna try a small paintbrush with isopropyl alcohol on it - it might go a bit deeper into a crack like that (that's what she said).
what happens if peroxide waist in the Xbox would it be alright?
I have a ps5 that keeps shutting off while playing but doesn't indicate no lights before hand and wont turn back on unless I unplug it and plug it back in. Any thoughts that would help or if you could possibly fix it for a fee?
Steve saves another system that someone knocked over 2 liter of coke on. Also having worked IT that shirt speaks to me on so many levels.
You can clean corrosion off your car battery with soda. I’m not surprised that there isn’t any. Think of it as a liquid protection
They make big rags that can clean those flat surfaces better than those tiny Q tips.
I use 91% Isopropyl alcohol to clean boards. But not with a Q tip. You can rinse the whole board using a soft brush. Just rinse all the goo off the edges of a tilted up board.
How much would you charge to fix a ps5 beeps once but won’t power on its my nephew’s an he been begging me to repair it
You are a god among men
I’ve always wondered l, @TronicsFix, do you do send ins? Like send in repairs?
Can an xbox series x or xbox one speaker be made to chime separated from the console???
Could you just submerge the innards in a bath of isopropyl alcohol for a while then take it apart?
Leon smokes menthols and blunts and couldn’t figure out where to get torx bits 😂
How do I go about sending you a console if you have the time? My PS4 just randomly shuts off. No overheating warning or warning of any sort it just turns itself off then back on then off AGAIN sometimes
They should make consoles with curved pipes for ventilation upside down U shape, it could prevent liquid damage as the water wouldnt fall directly over the board.
A sticky mess there! I think that soda or something like that was spilled on this console.
Dust debris soda, my favorite drink lol
Lol
So if I spilled something with my Xbox laying on its side, would it be any damage?
