#3 Beginners Guide to Mosaic Crochet - The Double Border
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 кві 2020
- This is the third lesson in my Beginners Guide to the Mosaic Crochet Technique, which is a very simple but effective crochet technique with lots of possibilities. In this third lesson I show you how to make the simple double border that encloses all the ends that you're left with up the sides of your piece when working mosaic crochet. You can then of course use this double border for other crochet projects as well, as it gives a lovely professional finish to any project!
For more insight into the world of Mosaic Crochet, please check out lessons 1 and 2 of this series, which you will find on my channel. The amazing thing about mosaic crochet is that it's actually quite simple, you only need to know how to work 3 stitches: the chain stitch, single crochet and double crochet, but the results are very intricate and versatile! In my Beginners Guide to Mosaic Crochet series I teach you all the technique behind the wonderful world of Mosaic Crochet! My plan is to keep going with this series, uploading one new lesson per week. Now, let the fun begin!

Not sure if you'll read this far back, over a year now. But I'm just finding you. I started crocheting last month and have learned everything I know from friendly people like you who put out videos on youtube. Thank you SO MUCH for making your tutorials beginner friendly! Your work is incredible, your personality is amazing and you are fun to watch and listen to. PLUS you make it so easy for even a novice like me to follow along and learn and produce beauty. Thank you!
❤️❤️❤️
Yes thank you so much! I am going to follow along to make my husband his own special blanket for Fathers Day because this is his favorite design and I have made everyone else their own special blanket and he wants his own so bad so this is going to just blow his mind! So thank you so much for helping me to be able to understand this technique!!
Absolutely agree, tinna just learned mosaic crochet only from you!! Amazing detailed videos and easy to follow charts ❤
It was so nice to read your reply to Tinna, I found her during covid and my living room and actually was a mess because my purpose of each day was to do mosaic with Tinna. She is a blessing with her knowledge and personality. Remember Nothing is under control as our lives were during covid.
Thank you Tinna. Maybe bump into you when I come to Reykjavik in July 2024
3 years after you made this video, and I'm now so grateful. I've just completed a mosaic rug, but there was no instructions for a border. Thank you Tinna for having this available. You have saved my sanity.
Haha Glad I could help! 🫶🏽😘
Oh what fun we could have watching videos from your viewers making their first DC round!😅😅😅 You have the best encouraging voice and giggle!
Ahaha yup, that could be fun (hopefully 🙈😂) to see 😂❤️😘
Your work and tutorials are wonderful. So intricate and professional. So easy to follow along. Thank you. After 62 years I finally know who I want to be when I grow up. You’re FABULOUS!
😂
Oh it is us who owe you the love you are so generous teaching us how to do this, thank you!🤩🤩🤩🥰🥰🥰🤩🤩🤩🥰🥰
☺️☺️☺️🙏🏽🥰😘
@@TinnaThorudottirThorvaldar I am a semi beginner If I am making a blanket, do I do it in one continuous piece or do I do it in pieces?
I cannot agree more!! You teach us so well and the way you speak feels as if we’re sitting right next to you there....beautiful soul!
Great teacher! I honesty thought it was going to be hard to do mosaic patterns, but amazingly, you made it very easy to learn. Thank you!
I enjoy your humor, and your infectious laugh! “ Fudge Intelligently” belongs in a frame on the wall of my craft room. 😍
Bwaaahaha it’s funny because it’s true ‼️😉🤣🤣🤣😘
best crafter quote ever!!!!!
I just followed along with you to learn how to do the border for my sample, and yes I did curse the first row of double crochet on the slip stitch row! You are a very good teacher and you were very good to keep encouraging us all the way through! Thank you my border looks fabulous.
love to see Tinna's positive energy keeps my spirits up !!! During this time of quarantine
❤️❤️❤️
Im always just amazed at how intricate your work looks, yet such simple stitches! I love your energy and personality. You certainly are one of a kind!! Thank you for sharing your talent!
You’re so sweet ☺️❤️ thank you for your support 🙏🏽‼️😘
I just found you and I'm very excited to start learning something different.. I love your personality and your teaching skills..
Thanks desr tinna ,when i saw your blanket border i cant understand how you make .now i m happy i m learn border thanks for teaching.
Tinna I thank you for this new pice off. I never see one like this this is new one for me to do thanks you I'm going to have a try
What a fun video! I enjoyed making the sample and now am going to add the border to a Tunisian blanket I've made. I used a 5.0mm hook and don't have a 4.5mm. So I went to a 4.0mm. On my blanket, I will just use the same size hook because 4.0mm made the border just a little too tight. Thanks so much for such enjoyable lessons. I spent a great evening with you and it was such a fun visit! Even watching the crazy ads was fun.
Tinna, Thank you. My first swatch/mini blanket is completely done. I'm ready and excited to begin Azul Tiles. You are a natural teacher and I love your energy!
A heartfelt 'thank you' to you, Tinna. Your kindness in teaching through these tutorials has opened up new possibilities with my crochet. You are right, it is addictive and ohhhh, so satisfying. I am hugely grateful to you. Xx Jane 💕
It’s worth it! How I wish I had know this for all the blankets I’ve made over the years.
Two years later and I’m here learning mosaic crochet from you/your video! You explain it so well. Up until now I’ve struggled to get the hang of it. Knowing each row is completed by one color puts my mind at ease. I thought I had to switch it throughout the rows to create this beautiful mosaic design lol silly me!
Merci pour tes vidéos je me suis enfin lancée dans les bordures grâce à toi. Gratitude.
I'm a big fan of your designs, methods, colour-schemes and tutorials, Tinna. You (and Bella Coco) have taught me to crochet & given me such pleasure in watching, following and then creating for myself. I've been able to knit since I was a kid (and was told I was unteachable as a 'leftie' in a family of 'righties' - Hah!) There's something so satisfying about just working down to that one stitch on the hook every time. It's like meditation. 💝💖
lol Tinna very few crocheters like to sew in ends so you've hit on a goldmine technique with this bordering idea lol keep up the good work I greatly enjoy your videos and patterns.
Bwaaahaha maybe this will be my golden goose 😉🤣🤣🤣💃🏻💯
Tinna, I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your tutorials! I"m new to mosaic crochet and your videos are so user friendly. I love the swatches I've made. The double border is genius! Thanks for all that you do!
Tinna!!!! Thank you, thank you! This was a real challenge for me and I have many teeny boo-boos throughout. I actually made a dishcloth approx. 7x14 in size. A funny....about half way through for some reason, I made up a new DC stitch. 🤣 My begginning slip stitch lacked really bad on the R side, and I had to do some real "finagling" to get it under control. All in all for my very first mosaic (I wish I could pronounce it like you do!), I'm pleased! You are very talented and after hanging out with you for hours....I feel like I can call you my friend! For real! Be blessed and keep on crochetin' for love!
You're a great teacher and I appreciate you SO MUCH! I feel MOSAIC MANIA coming upon me. I am in your Facebook group and I am making a scarf using the APACHE TEARS from the first video and when I'm done I am going to do the border that you recommend. I hope it works for a neck scarf.
My goodness, not sure how I got to lesson 1, but now after lesson 3… I’m heading out to purchase some yarn 🧶…my grandmother is dancing in heaven 🙏🏻 thank you for being so transparently beautiful 🙌🏽 (Israel)
Your videos are not only extremely clear but you are so funny and charming, thank you for teaching me mosaic crochet!! Can't wait to share my finished Baby Casablanca on the Facebook group:)
Oh my word…the struggle was real, lol. I used a small hook to loosen a bunch of the slip stitch stitches. Made it easier to get the hook up and under. Thank you for sharing your expertise Tina 🍎💕🍎
Here’s the thing... if this border was super easy, you’d see it everywhere because it’s SO wonderful!
Thanks for the great video! Can’t wait to start mosaic crocheting when I can get out and buy some yarn again.
Word!! No pain no gain right!??😉 and I hope you get your hands on some yarn soon!! 😘
funny how I saw a video on this border in October 2019
This double-border is a really great way to touch up the sides and loose yarn. Although, instead of dc stitches, I would rather go with linked-dc or linked-hdc, the linked versions leave less space between stitches, and instead of lacey you can get more of a woven look.
Thank you for another fun tutorial. I am officially a fan of mosaic crochet and a Tinna fan, as well.
I love her joking and amazing attitude. Her laugh is contagious. Love learning from her.
❤️🙏🏽❤️
This is the most challenging project I have ever taken on but you make is easy. I could listen to you talk all day.
I am making a queen size a for my niece and I just keep telling myself "make it once....have it as a family heirloom forever."
Thank you so much.
I have only just discovered you this weekend and OMG I cannot believe I was scared of Mosaic Crochet and not being able to understand it. Your tutorials are perfectly easy to follow. I’m doing the basics and then want to start with a baby blanket. Thank you sooooo much ......this double border is AMAZING ......... I have a new passion 💜💜
So I just finished my third lesson, I want to do a happy dance because I love it so much! My one complaint is that I haven’t done a darn thing that I should have done since I found your wonderful tutorials! I am so appreciative that you allow us to crochet right along with you! I suck at reading patterns! With crochet I am more of a monkey see monkey do kind of gal. I look forward to seeing your happy face on the next video 🌸🌸🌸 THANK YOU ❣️
Thank uuuuu Tinna for Giving my crochet journey new inspiring roads! I love U and what u give us here on UA-cam! Ur so helpful and generous♥️♥️♥️
greetings from 🇸🇪
Thank you for sharing your talents. Your videos are easy to watch and you're a great teacher. Whenever you laugh I smile.
❤️❤️❤️
This result is SO worth the hassle of working down the edges! So professional and tidy. The way you explained how the tails point to where you need to insert your hook was extremely helpful, and my mind was blown when I understood that you could work into the back side of the slip stitches. Thank you so much for these tutorials!
Ahaha so very happy to hear you liked it!! And yes!! This really is a game changer!! ❤️❤️👌🏾
Love this border almost as much as your giggle. I feel blessed to have found your channel, your designs are so beautiful.
Hahaha thank you so much ❤️ ... it’s important to have fun with what you’re doing ... and usually I just sit here alone, crocheting and talking to myself 🙈🤣🤣🤣 ... so it’s even just more fun when I’m filming and there is at least the possibility that someone somewhere might be laughing along with me ‼️❤️😘
I love the wall hanging in the background.... ...."Relax, nothing is under control". Perfect!!!
thank you very much from France where I finally understood mosaic crochet thanks to you with your clear and joyful tutorials 😊
Merci ✨
I never knew the invisible stitch was a thing! I went nuts and scared my husband who was just quietly supportive lol working on a baby blanket for my upcoming bundle of joy and the border gives it a nice clean look. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge 💕🤟🏻
Bwaaahahaha 🤣🙈🙌🏽 congrats on your pregnancy ❤️😘
You’ve made this so much easier than I thought it could be. Thank you for making this easy and fun.
Oh that makes me happy to hear ☺️☺️☺️‼️💃🏻😘
Loved watching these three tutorials ........ I am more a knitter but with your designs I may give it a go so cute and would look amazing in a beanie for a child (or adult)....... love how you come across and your explainations are great.........your wonderful personality shines through and your laugh is infectious......... would love to have you over for a coffee and you can crochet while I knit ...... thank you for sharing 👍😊
Absolutely amazing. I’ve been crocheting 43 yrs and love to keep learning. Thank you for your video. I love the way you teach and love your giggle. You make me laugh. Just joy.
NO machine could ever replace your stunning work. You’re fantastic.
Oh my goodness I just adore your giggle it always makes me laugh at the same time. I agree with you, it does make a gorgeous finish to your project and I think I might start incorporating this finish with all my afghans in future. Thank you once again for another amazing tutorial xx
Thank you so much for your support ☺️☺️☺️ and you know how it goes, girls just wanna have fun!! 😉 and laughing brightens the soul ❤️😘
Yes indeed! Well worth it. I don't think I could go back to regular borders again. I loved it!
Haha happy it helped! ❤️
Thank you for this video tutorial!!! I just put 3 rounds on a fairly large afghan. Time consuming, but like you said "well worth it!" All those fringes GONE! Thank you!!
I have ordered my yarn and purchased your instructions, I haven't been this excited in a long time!!! 💘💘💘
A tip, make a practise square first, yep, the whole thing , mosaic crochet, the slip stitches and the double border, I’m a very experienced crocheter but learned so much I was really glad I was just practising. It might take you a few hours but it will be worth it.
Wonderful!! I hope you have fun with it!! And yes, Soffity’s tip is very valid, always good to practice with a swatch first! 🙌🏽❤️😘
I did this yesterday and it turned out beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing 🌟💘👍
I can't wait to try your beautiful mosaic crochet!! I've never seen anything like this before and it's so easy to follow your tutorials!! There's a new baby in the family, so I have a good excuse to make a small blanket first!! Thank you for your amazing tutorials!!❤❤❤
Wonderful!! I sure hope you’ll have fun with it ❤️‼️💯💃🏻
@@TinnaThorudottirThorvaldar so do I!!❤❤❤
Tinna you are a GENIUS!!!!! A fantastic teacher. I am how a baby watching yourvideo. Now i ll try to make the technique. Thanksss!!!!!
I can't say I loved doing the first round of the back border but it wasn't as bad as I expected. Thankyou for such clear tuition.
You are magnificent!!! Thank you so much Tinna. I've come along way with the Apache blanket that I started with your first tutorial. I'm so excited. I can't thank you enough. To break up the repetitiveness of the blanket. I made a cover for my water bottle with the Apache stitch today. Lol. 😘🤗
Wow!! Well done!!! Wish I could see your pics ‼️‼️😘
tinna, I love your tutorials, you are clear and are careful to show each step. I especially like your invisible join. I am currently working on the Havana Shawl and am waiting for more yarn. I am enjoying the pattern immensely. Thanks for all of the instructional videos and wonderful patterns. Hugs, Fern in Minnesota
Thank you so much for your support ❤️ I’m so happy to hear you’re having fun with my Havana shawl, come on mister post man!! 😉🤣😘
Tinna you are simply the best! Although English is not my native language, I’m dutch, not very experienced in crochet, and old, your tutorials are very easy to follow and understand. Thank you ❤
Wow, thank you! Happy to hear that 🥰🫶🏽😘
You seem like such a magical, positive person. I can't imagine anyone being down for long in your presence. I hope your husband and kids (if any ??) know how lucky they are.
❤️❤️❤️ thank you so much ❤️❤️☺️ ... I’ll pass this on to my husband and sons 😉😂😂😘
Hey I'm so excited I'm working on a vest with Apache stitch...I just luv the music also in beginning
Wonderful!! I hope this helps! ... and the music is actually by my very talented husband ❤️ here’s the Spotify link ❤️

@@TinnaThorudottirThorvaldar thank you for the link. Your husband is as amazing as you are !
I was today years old when I found out about this border... been crocheting for years. Oh, the pain.
Thank you so much Tina. I am literally hooked. Love love love my mosaic blanket and now looking so nice with the edge done.
I always say misery loves company and your company made it worthwhile haha it’s not bad at all and I love the way it looks. Thank you so much Tinna.☺️
Love your vids Tinna. The border has solved my love of one direction crochet cut the thread and my hate of the threads. Now my blankets look "professional" lol.
Wonderful!! And yes they sure will! This gives such a beautiful professional finish ❤️❤️❤️
I have been waiting for a long time for someone to do this tutorial.
Yay!! Hope it helps ‼️💃🏻💯
Tinna Thorudottir Thorvaldar I know it will help in learning the techniques. After crocheting for over 45 years I need to challenge myself and to keep learning otherwise I get bored and stagnant in my skills.
I've just found your videos about this type of crochet pattern and I'm fascinated! You are a fantastic teacher!!
You re incredible!!!!! Your my favorite teacher no secrets WHAT A WORK!!!!!
I absolutely love this border ❤️so beautiful ❤️🧶but it is so much work😂🤣😩❤️God bless you❤️🙏🏼✝️ thank you my friend ❤️👏👍🏼
Haha yes, a lot of work but sooo worth it! You know what they say, no pain no gain 😉 blessings to you and your family 😘
I've only just recently discovered your channel and I'm really loving the mosaic crochet. There are so many possibilities with it. I love your channel, it's fun and very easy to follow. Thank you for sharing your talent :) :) :)
Thank you so much ☺️
Tina I love your sense of humor. Your crochet is beautiful. I’m ordering thread and needles now. Thank you again.
Wonderful! Hope you have fun with it 😘
OMGOSH you weren't kidding about that first row into the back of the ss. But you were right, stick with it and it was worth it. Thank you for showing and sharing Tinna.
❤️❤️😘
Your work is so intricate and beautiful, and I love your giggle and sense of humor. Thanks for the tutorials!
I’m curious: I’ve seen a few other videos on mosaic crochet, but they seem different. Your technique seems easier for some reason. Did you come up with your own version?
In any case, I love it!
I agree...I've watched other people's mosaic crochet techniques and they're just unnecessarily complicated...hers make sense!
I disagree: I think the first two rounds are easily the most enjoyable part of the border. It's so beautiful when you turn the rough edge into a smooth elegant edge and I enjoy seeing the back bumps of the chain. Did you come up with this yourself? Adding a slip stitch to make both sides workable? It's so elegant
Yes!!! I agree... but everyone stainless it’s such a pain 🙈🤣 but it is so very satisfying isn’t it!! And yes I figured this out on my own ... but I’m sure others have too, it’s just a technique really ❤️
"Fudging is fine"
Subscribed.
😉😂❤️
But it IS!!!!❤️
You know your audience 😁😄
I’ve loved watching your tutorials and the charts take me back to my cross stitch days. I’m sure the charts are going to help me so much. I’ll carry on watching them definitely going to have a go…..thank you Bye 💁🏼♀️😊
Wow...mind blown... I've been crocheting for so long and never had an idea to fix the border of blankets. Crocheting sc or any other stitch around tends to get so irregular and messy. I'm going to use this method on ALL of my crochet blankets from now on, whether mosaic crochet or not! This is so neat! Thank you so much!!
Thank you! Just finished my 3rd blanket and thanks to your video my border finally looks professional! Thank you!
Just new to the idea of mosaic crotchet. I'm left handed so going very slowly. Thank you for clear instructions ♥️🇦🇺
I don't usually comment on these tutorials, however, this one is so wonderful I just can't help myself. Easy peasy, ha, to follow. I am working on my second mosaic blanket. This technique is the easiest way to do the double border. You have a beautiful way of teaching. Thank you so much.
Haha thank you so much for taking the time to write ❤️ happy to hear you like it ❤️😘
Hi Tinna, thank you very much for your generosity! Here is something I created based on your classes!
Amazing patterns and tuition, I am so happy to have found your channel Thank you xxx❤
So I don't know how your video on mosaic crochet ended up in my feed, but I loooove it. And I am buying yarn, so I can begin.. Thanks for your fantastic videos and you are a gem on UA-cam😊
Thank you so much for your support ❤️
This video is so helpful. It's such a good tutorial. My border came out beautifully thanks to your teaching, you make it clear and I paused it and followed your advice. Thank you.
Just doing the border on my blanket now. Have loved doing it. You are a great teacher. Thank you.
Wonderful! Well done you 😘
Hey Tina, on a sad day you are the person that can make everybody happy. Liked your tutorials very mucht, thanks.
Yes....You are a genius!!!! You are also so very kind to share your knowledge and talent with the rest of us aspiring genius' !!! Now...down to serious business....I sososososoooo wish I could hang out with you for a few days!!! Your laugh is so infectious.....thank you for your joy!!! Pam

would love that!! :) i'll let you know God bless
You are THE BEST teacher. I am impressed!
Awww aren’t you sweet! Thank you so much for your support and encouragement ❤️
Every hooker should know this border, even if they don't do any mosaic crochet! I can't believe I didn't know about this sooner, I'm going to be working on way more blankets in the future that change colour on every row with the knowledge that I can just work this around the edge! ❤️
Yay!! This just made my day!! ❤️‼️💃🏻💯
So happy to purchase all your Mosaic afghan patterns. So beautiful who could pick only 1? Lol
OMG thank you so much for your support 🙏🏽☺️☺️☺️❤️
I just love this border!! I also love you laugh and giggles! Such a joy to listen to.

Happy to hear it helped. And yesss! Go for it, you’ve got this 😘
Thank you for showing this video. I have to admit, the border is one of my favourite part of the blanket. I have a lot of patience and I find it therapeutic 😊
Omg finally someone who agrees with me on that one!! 😅✨❤️
Ps. I have lots more border videos available now, this one is a tad old 😉❤️
@@TinnaThorudottirThorvaldar 👍
I am absolutely SHOOK by this amazing idea! Weaving ends has always been my least favorite thing by far in crochet, and this is the best solution I've seen! Thanks so much for sharing! I've subscribed and joined the FB group too - I feel an afghan coming on...
I love this series. Tinna you are so generous to share such thorough tutorials. I think one of the most generous things you can do is to teach a person a skill and you are a good teacher. Thank you ☺️ and I hope you’re having a wonderful day.
You’re so sweet ☺️ thank you for your support ❤️
Just stumbled across your videos looking for mosaic crochet. I watched the 1st and second. And done the waves sample. Then I watched this one and just got done with the border. Wow! I'm in love with mosaic crochet now. And your border is genius! So easy. I'm using my sample as a coaster. Now I want to do a baby blanket. Thank you so much for sharing these tutorials. I'm 51 and have been crocheting for 25 years. This is my first time doing mosaic, and I love it.
I inherited an Afghan about 25 years ago and didn’t know what stitch it was. Was so excited to stumble onto your mosaic UA-cam because now I know it is mosaic crochet .. I’m so thrilled!!! Thank you so much for all the wonderful videos you’ve made. I have been bingeing on them for hours. I love watching you. You have the greatest personality and you’re an excellent teacher. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Thank you so much ☺️ happy to hear you enjoy my videos ❤️❤️❤️
You are such a joy to listen to and make me laugh!
Back again for more! 😊 Going to try this border to cover my ends on the Lost in Time (Ravelry) blanket! It’s actually a shawl I’m turning into a blanket for a friend …thanks for posting this!
Heel blij mee 300 rijen draadjes in de rand wat geweldig! 🥰
I am binge watching your videos. Your crocheting is protection. ❤🎉
That’s wonderful to hear 🥰 thank you for watching 😘😘😘
Thank you is all I can say, now the addiction has taken hold of me. You are truly awesome in your teachings
This is a phenomenal tutorial! Not only did I learn how to do the double border, but now I know how to do an invisible join. Your commentary is fantastic and relatable, which makes your tutorials very pleasurable to watch. Definitely a natural teacher. Thank you so much! I look forward to learning from your other videos and checking out some of your patterns at your Ravelry story :)
