  • Intertitle: 'Who says that woman's work is never done?'
A woman sweeps a carpet on her knees with a dustpan and brush. A clock face with the hands rapidly rotating is superimposed over shots of her doing arduous housework - scrubbing, cooking, getting children off to school, washing up, making beds, shopping, sweeping. The housewife dreams of a more leisurely time - images of reading a book, going for a walk, taking a rest, shopping for pleasure (the employment bar would have prevented a married woman working). Shots of labour saving devices available to the male office worker - telegraph, telephone, typewriter, vehicles for commuting. A multi-image filter is used for the clock face and close up of the housewife's work. Electricity pylons and cables
