Helped my Dad build one of these things about 20 yrs ago for his . He save $500 bucks building it himself. The whole time we were assembling it, I was wishing I had paid the $500 for him. He is gone now, glad we did it.
those auger anchors go right in with an impact gun, I used my 20v 1/2" drive impact gun with a big socket that went over the eye end and drove them right in
For anyone who is considering building this carport, PLEASE brace the building frames with temporary pieces of 2' x 4" or other material BECAUSE until you install several metal sheets, the building does not have strength in the event a lateral load is placed on the frame. While it seems it wont collapse, especially when a person is on the roof installing the first metal sheet, the frames may collapse , especially in windy conditions. I know this vedeo shows construction without braces, notice the frames shaking when lifting the first roof sheet. Nice video of a typical metal carport build! Always work safe. An 8 foot fall will ruin your day, so play safe.
Great tips and you're definitely right! I was feeling risky that day and just wanted to get it done. But certainly not worth the risk in the event of a fall
This wasn't boring as you stated, it was very useful with pertinent information. I'm in South Fl and everything rusts on the ground here too. I had considered setting mine (when I get one) on railroad ties to keep it off the ground, TBD. Thanks for taking the time, well done.
Last year I helped a friend build a similar carport (only his was twice a wide and slightly longer, for his RV and boat to fit side by side). We took about three days building it, and it was a fair amount of work, particularly getting the frame up and into place I wouldn't even consider trying to do it solo, so my hat is definitely off to you. Yours came out really well, and I like the additional steps you took (the back wall and the soil screws) to protect and secure it. I enjoyed the video.
Good information- some good 👍 value! I just took down a used 12’ x 31’ carport yesterday afternoon & Trying to figure out how on earth I can re- erected it on my property by myself. Getting the old metal sheets- 31’ long off the roof was the most difficult; I underestimated how much sway & movement the building had until I was up on top, This one had just a roof, at about 12’ tall- approx 14’ in the center. Fortunately a relative of the seller was on site; he is a roofer and sheet metal worker, so he was able to assist myself & my 15 year old daughter with some of the disassemble process, without him , I’d had to make another trip to finish up today. You provided some good tips on the foundation, I like the idea of using the blocks to keep the metal up off the earth, for drainage and other benefits. I believe I can complete my rebuild 90% by myself, Just getting the metal up on the roof by myself might be sketchy.🤔 My plan is to use this A Frame carport as beginning for a barn and add a lean to on both sides for horse stalls, as well as a tack & feed room.
I bought a used one of these things my son and I took it apart, brought it home and installed it. I only put 4 anchors one in each corner but I concreted them in. I live in a rocky area.
Sometimes I uncheck the notify subscriber box if it's something that I don't think people would find interesting. But yeah I don't remember if I did that on this one. Thanks for checking it out!
First of all it looks great ! Secondly wouldn’t it have been stronger thus safer to apply some braces and siding before you climbed up on to the roof structure ? I’m not a builder but I got motion sickness watching you apply the roof metal.
You're way to hard on yourself ! Dude, you are freaking awesome and don't talk to much. Idk who's planted that seed into your brain but you do NOT talk to much and you do one hell of a job.
Commendable work! I am having a crew come by today to install a 13x25x11H RV port. Full vertical roof, full vertical side and vertical gables. After watching your video I am happy to pay for the install since it’s 95 degrees here. 🥵
I appreciate the kind words! But I'm definitely not a very good fabricator compared to some of the guys I see here on youtube! Unbelievable skills people have.
14:07 Holding a human size razor blade and if the top of your ladder slips down the pivot point being the fence you are landing right on top of that thing. Much bigger balls than I got lol
When you are trying to use a string for level.. #1. Never let it get wet. Will sag more #2. With a lether glove on... Pull the string insainly tight ... Gravity dictates it will sag...
Great video. Without knowing your financial situation If you added up all your costs for both buildings would it have made financial sense to have built one large building vs two smaller? Im considering consolidating my RV Barn with a new shop. Metal is high right now in Texas.
Thanks. And yeah you're 100% correct. Kind of wish I did. Never planned on putting another one up. But you know how it goes. Always need more space. Want more space should I say. Although the one they sing about these is I could easily resell this building for probably more than I paid for it in this market. Very easy to disassemble.
"This is Slightly boring " LOL Au contrary! Forgive my French. Nothing you do is boring. However maybe put Jenn in the background just for a little beauty.
Chris what the heck is that circular saw at 13.04 min? Is that an aluminum bodied saw from the 1960'S? Hope it's double insulated or at least properly grounded...those old saws could be quite shocking! Great video bye the way.
Yeah it's probably from the '60s. Found it at a flea market. It's pretty awesome. And I don't think it has a ground. Luckily only 120 volt though so I should be able to throw it out of my hand. LOL. I guess I shouldn't use it near water though. And thanks
I didn't get instructions but it seemed to make sense to start with one sheet on the top to keep things symmetrical. But I don't know if that's the right way or not
These are still p.o.s. , are just cheap tin. And now are 1.5x cost, plus no install or warranty. Just build your own with a lean to pitch roof out of wood. If you use carriage bolts, you can assemble and disassemble move it take it with you or easily resell unlike these metal ones.
scummy company eh.. they were sour they had to give you a carport at the old price you already paid instead of selling one at the new inflated price.. still doubt they were taking a loss on it though.. were just hoping youd say no give me my money back so they could sell it to someone else for 4500$

All the money in the world can’t pay for the time you had with your dad! 😊
Chris = YOU ARE THE HARDEST WORKING PERSON ON UA-cam THAT IVE EVER SEEN MY FRIEND

Dude you got balls of steel pulling those sheets up top!
I didn't find it boring, I thought it was quite interesting. Ref Carolina Carports, you're far more polite than I would have been.
Man you are out there Bro. Love your Rip into it attitude. Attempt everything. And prevail. Go Dude . You Rock Man.

I didn't think this video was boring at all. Nice job.
Not boring at all, I really appreciated the video, I'm thinking of putting up a carport on my cement driveway, gives me some ideas!
It was awesome watching you do this you are fearless and tough as nails and you inspire me to get busy thank you
I bought a used one of these things my son and I took it apart, brought it home and installed it. I only put 4 anchors one in each corner but I concreted them in. I live in a rocky area.
Very helpful video, I’m getting ready to purchase an RV carport myself. I love watching both of your channels.
I really enjoyed this. Totally applicable to my life and situation. Thanks for it!
Excellent video and information brother, thank you for taking the time to share this! A job well done - found all of it very useful!
Great job and like you said the mistakes you made on your 1st carport you didn't have on the 2nd one so you also learned.
Awesome video. You did a great job.
Thanks man
Chris, how did I miss this awesome video when you first made it available? Well at least I viewed it today. Great content!
Sometimes I uncheck the notify subscriber box if it's something that I don't think people would find interesting. But yeah I don't remember if I did that on this one. Thanks for checking it out!

Awesome job! That is super sturdy also!!!!!!!
Thats some very meticulous work you always do it right the first time!!
Haha yeah probably went a little overkill on this one. But hopefully it pays off in the long term
You're way to hard on yourself ! Dude, you are freaking awesome and don't talk to much. Idk who's planted that seed into your brain but you do NOT talk to much and you do one hell of a job.
Great job man! You got the heart of a champion! I got some good ideas outta this one.

I appreciate the kind words! But I'm definitely not a very good fabricator compared to some of the guys I see here on youtube! Unbelievable skills people have.

Thank you for this video. I just saw myself in your place...NOT gonna do it myself!!
Yeah definitely better to just hire the crew
Ohh budy, you REALLY NEED a what we call here in New Zealand 🇳🇿, a Lifestyle Block (semi-rural) to live on...Great job on the building mate.

Man, I thought I do some sketchy stuff building by myself! You’re a lunatic!😂
14:07 Holding a human size razor blade and if the top of your ladder slips down the pivot point being the fence you are landing right on top of that thing. Much bigger balls than I got lol
Thanks bro. Certainly gave me some things to think about before I embark on this perilous journey myself. LOL :)
Front metal grate was a great use of scrap metal
Good job as usual and I got a lot out of this video. Thanks,

Am going to buy a carport and was thinking my son and I would do it? Now iv'e changed my mind and going to hire it done! Thanks for the video.

Thank You !! This helps so much !!!
When you are trying to use a string for level..

Do the instructions say to start panels on top? I put one together once, no instructions but we started on bottom
I didn't get instructions but it seemed to make sense to start with one sheet on the top to keep things symmetrical. But I don't know if that's the right way or not
Thx so helpful
Watching that thing sway while you were standing on it....oh hell nah!

What music channel do you listen to?
Ummmm Texas here. No our soil in Central Texas moves like the waves in the water.
Guess I was thinking like West Texas
@@NNKH2 West Texas has more sand. East has alot of red dirt. Central has alot of black soil.
He said "moist"
what not what to do
What a pain in the ass
yer too hard on yerself...but then that's why you are successful
scummy company eh.. they were sour they had to give you a carport at the old price you already paid instead of selling one at the new inflated price.. still doubt they were taking a loss on it though.. were just hoping youd say no give me my money back so they could sell it to someone else for 4500$
Yeah, definitely a crappy situation, but no big deal in the end
great vid thanks...peace out
Thanks
No need to be climbing on top you can put the screws using the ladder
two shipping containers with a canopy between them would be better suited to the sanford and son mess that yard is becoming
