PIRATEN IN BATAVIA (Pirates of the Caribbean influenced) Multi-Cam HD Ride-Through - Europa-Park

- This is a 1080p HD full multi-camera ride-thru (including the queue) of Piraten in Batavia, Europa-Park's dark boat ride that is heavily influenced by Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean. I cut this together from five different cameras, each shooting with different angles, on different sides of the boat. Each shot has been stabilized and color-corrected.
I know people don't like it when I use the term "rip-off", but this is pretty blatant, even moreso than Fata Morgana in Efteling. And while this is an impressive and fun ride, it pales in comparison to Pirates, mainly because the character design is lacking. Just goes to show how important Marc Davis was to the success of the Disney rides.

It was rebuilt actually!
Roland and Franz Mack (founder of the park) came up with the idea of building an amusement park when they were in America. They had no experience in the world of amusement parks. Therefore, it is no wonder that they took Disney as a great role model and also imitated it.
The music for this is just so good!

Damn shame. Tragic loss.
Two years ago this ride burned to the ground because a storage unit caught fire, they are rebuilding it with a whole new story about some pirate and his monkey, I hope it won't suck since they already ruined the ghost mansion with the redesign.
Yeah, I'm glad I was able to do a bunch of ride thrus and capture the original version. But here's hoping the new one ends up being an upgrade!
For anyone who didn't know: It burnt down due to an Fire in 2018 and now is rebuilt with an Glow up

Came here because after two years since the fire and now that I've seen the new version I almost forgot how Piraten in Batavia looked. And man a Rip-off? Never!

@@DarkSideOfDisney It's fantastic! I admit that the old ride had very dated animatronics since the opening. But now they really outdone themselves. The new characters, the effects, smell, set pieces. Everything is terrific.
I can't tell if anything is better than in US Disney Parks (rather unlikely I think) because I never had the chance to visit one but for Europa Park it's epic and definitely a new standard here.

I think it's very cool especially cool for the people who can't get to Disney World or Disneyland. If I lived there I'd go all the time.

the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie was released back in 2003, but "PIRATEN IN BATAVIA" opening was on 1987. so how can it be an rip-off?
Seriously? The Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disneyland opened in the 60s.

It's definitely worth a visit. The on-site hotels are pretty nice, too, so I'd say give it two days if you have the time.

As u probably already know. you cant make Kinsey fries at Pecos Bills anymore, but We did make Kinsey Nachos while I was wearing my DSoD shirt. We brought in our own chips got two of their plates and to the topping bar we went.

Me, too. I wish there were more of these sorts of things in the US, but Disney and Universal kind of have the market cornered on heavily-themed dark rides (aside from the Mine Train at Knott's!).
After seeing the 'knock off' rides, I have to wonder if the difference is that the designers must have been high or not....
Well, I know the Disney guys definitely were high, so maybe the difference is that these guys weren't?! ;)

One thing's for sure the building for this attraction must be gigantic.
It must be, and to their credit, they hide it pretty well.
I don't wanna say it looks bad, but ....man this has nothing of the charm POTC has. Now I am bias because since I was like 4 years old I've been a POTC the ride fan. But if I take off that nostalgic glasses I still can see this is a very watered down version.
- POTC has wonderfull music that adds to the scenery and charm, not just random noises.
- POTC has destinct characters (the red head, Old Bill with his cats, Carlos and his wife, the hairy leg pirate, the jail pirates, the jail dog, the auctioneer, and many more. They all talk (sometimes to the audience!) and all have a different destinct voice and personality and manners!
I don't see much of this in PIB.
- POTC's animatronics. Ahhhh. I remember after all those years I went back as an adult and was STILL surprised by how fluent and smooth those damn animatronics move! The auctioneer even has been mentioned as the best animatronic worldwide if I'm not correctly (or was, don't know that's still the case).
PIB's animatronics look very stiff and don't move as much.
- POTC has different settings! You pass a restaurant, through a cave with skeletons, at sea during a battle between ships, a jail, a town and a bay!
Now, as a ride itself it doesn't look bad, really. Might be fun. But no, it's not on the level of POTC :)
All I see in PIB is a town and here and there some jungle.
Yeah, the biggest flaw is that it doesn't have the humor and whimsy of POTC. And the characters don't have the distinctive look of Marc Davis's characters. I did think it was very cool that it ended in a restaurant with a stage show, though!

Once I got past obsessing over how similar it was to Pirates of the Caribbean, I started to really enjoy it for what it was. It's really weird and fun!
+The Dark Side of Disney Weird is always fun. We're going back the day after Christmas as apparently is amazing at that time of year. Can't wait

Some of the Dutch facades and a part of the waiting area has been saved.
Not being disrespectful or anything, but would they not think putting real fire effects inside a ride with loads of foam fibreglass and cloth is just asking for trouble? I mean, no one knows what caused the fire, though one report said a big fireball erupted in the building, I can see multiple fireball type pyrotechnics in here…. Really sad that a classic old dark ride was destroyed though, looked like a really well themed magical ride
Yeah, they did rebuild it, but I haven't seen the new version. Not sure how faithful they were to the original. Definitely an interesting point about the real fire effects....
I just realized how many rides at europapark are actually copies of disney rides... pirates of the caribbean!(basically the whole concept), the haunted mansion (stretching room, dancing scene) , splash mountain ( same thing exept your going to see dwarves at work at the inside “slow” part), matterhorn bobsleds (same thing basically) and they even have a space mountain at europapark. And I am sure if I would look closer I’d find more haha
Yeah, it's an unfortunate amount. I actually loved Europa Park, and think they could easily stand on their own as a world-class theme park without having to copy Disney rides.
They should use less animatronics and instead have more budget for realistic animatronics that have human movements and are quiet
Well, the whole thing burned down a few years ago and they're currently rebuilding it, so here's hoping they take your suggestion!

For Europe, this is an A park. I'd put it up against Disneyland Paris any day of the week (which isn't saying much, to be honest).

A cheap knockoff of Pirates of the Caribbean, but I must admit the animatronics at 12:45 are amazing.
Oh no doubt! It was actually a really impressive ride - the only thing that was cheap was the art direction. It burned down recently and they're rebuilding it from scratch, so I'm interested to see if it improves at all.
