Until 1996 there were even hitchhiking ghosts. Channel "SirHDK59" uploaded older videos where you can see the original scenes. The sounds in the videos from 1993 and 1995 are still the old ones from the 80's, however the loops in the 90's were shortened and ran at a different speed and were quieter. To convey the mood of the original sounds in the 80s, I recommend the video "Geisterbahn Europa Park 1985 (Nur Ton) !!!".
This ride used to be a lot scarier in the 90's and early 2000's, it had scarier, darker stuff in it and a spookier sound design, after that they started to pack way too many props in there and screens/effects that take you out of the experience. Kinda sad that they gave this ride all kinds of makeovers over the years that made it worse, possibly in an unecessary attempt to make it more modern and family friendly.
I recently had the chance to visit Europapark last december. They did add a few more things, like replacing the animated portraits with the characters from "Happy Family". Something that really clashes with the experience. Even more than some scenes being cluttered with too many things. I mean, that library scene at the beginning? Really needs fewer characters, it's just crowded. I also found that graveyard-scene and the laboratory scene to be unfitting and it shows those scenes were added much later. I believe they were added around 2005 and Geisterschloss was opened in the early 80's. I also had the feeling europapark tried to make the Geisterschloss more family friendly. The ghosts at the dinner scene are telling jokes, for example. Also, too bad you cut out the voice over from the elevator.
Well, I guess that's good that they're always looking for ways to improve it, even if it doesn't always work out. And I agree that it's very cluttered, although that makes it easier to ride multiple times, because you always see new things. What's interesting about the voiceover in the elevator? I only speak a little German, so I couldn't understand what was going on.
@@DarkSideOfDisney It's less about the voice over being interesting and more about the complete experience. The narrator in the elevator just greets the the guests in a very sardonic voice with a not-so-subtle threat. My take on a tanslation would be "Welcome my friends. How nice of you to find your way here. You will enjoy this place and stay with us forever. And now we go downstairs." The original voice over is "Willkommen, meine Freunde. Wie schön, dass ihr zu uns gefunden habt. Ihr werdet euren Spaß haben und für immer bei uns bleiben. Und nun geht es abwärts."
@@Externica Okay, that's a lot like The Haunted Mansion in Disney, then. The "Ghost Host" says something similar about how there's always room for one more ghost.
Yeah, it's definitely worth a visit if you're anywhere near the area. And there are a bunch of other cool theme parks within an easy train ride, including the incredible Efteling!!!
Jeezaloo! If they put one more thing in there I think it would cause a sinkhole! Delightfully overwhelming,I loved it. Great job on capturing as much as you could,I'm sure that was a chore!
Thanks! Yeah, between the low-light, the jerky ride vehicle, and sheer amount of shit they crammed in there, it was quite a challenge to shoot and edit!
I see they went for Quantity over Quality. I used to go to haunt cons back in the day where tons of these assorted props and effects are on display/up for sale (granted when I went it was to watch these things work/reverse engineer it all in my head to rebuild it for a lot less than vendors asked) Rambling aside, it looks like they went on a shopping spree and tried to cram as much in that place as humanly possible
There were a few cool Pepper's Ghost effects in here, and some spooky imagery, but in general, yeah, they definitely just filled it up with whatever they could find and hoped for the best.
Oh its great to see this ride again. First time I was on it was in 2013... ut you can hear in the main hall (where you enter the cars) that there is a rip off from the grim grinning ghosts music. I really need to go there again, just heard they buidl something new. And im not living far away from there. Oh and by the way, the 3 Headskulptures are singing something alike the grinning ghosts.Just in German and with a other voice.
Yeah, that song sounded VERY similar to Grim Grinning Ghosts (and of course the scene also looks very similar)! It's a great park. I'd go back in a second.
Just started to watch this channel and I'm really getting into it, I just don't understand why there isn't way more subscribers. There are so many theme park based channel's on UA-cam though very few of this style and calibre.
I saw lots of similarities. Stretching room, body from the ceiling, birthday cake girl, madam leota, ballroom dancers, organ player, singing busts in the graveyard, pop up heads.
Howyoo doin, Leonard?! Good vid, good to see you! just showin support! For anyone that is interested in good times on Planet Earth! Have a rad one, dudeski!!
My main criticism is that the ballroom scene went on a little long for my taste. At the Disney parks the ballroom scene is only as long as it takes to reach the end of the hall and enter the attic, but here it seems that they want to keep the scene going as long as possible. Other than that, I feel this ride would've been better if they tried to make it their own thing instead of trying to hammer in the aspects in which it's similar to the Disney mansions.
Interesting video. The ride has changed in March this year, which cannot be seen here. (I guess you made these shots earlier). In any case, this ride is far better then Phantom Manor. Except for the fact that this ride is a bit short. The soundtrack is better then PM's, and I also love the jumpscares a lot. I've found out which music/sounds the ride has, and what the story behind Lorenzo di Medici is. I can tell you more about the soundtrack if ur interested.
Yeah, I shot this in October of 2015. What changed in March? And I'd be very happy to hear any information you have about the soundtrack and the back story!
- They added a Jumpscare at 6:50. - At 4:35, they removed the crying girl and Lorenzo, and put the characters from the new 4D movie. - After the singing statues, the scene afterwards has been completely changed. All skeletens are gone. So is the fat girl. The guy that has nightmares in bed has been moved inside a koffin. They also put organ music as well, but this still doesnt sync with the rest of the music. So yeah, the soundtrack... The soundtrack was redone in 2012. The melody of "Pavane per Laudomia" was used to create a new track; Tief auf der gruft. This is actually the song that the statues are singing. This track has been splitted in smaller parts which play seperated inside the ride. Different parts of the track: - The Organ Track; Plays at the part where you enter the seat, The part with the mirrors and right after the singing statues. (since march 2016) - The Piano Track; Plays at the dancing room. - The Tuba Track: Plays at the attic, at the singing statues and at the end where the music band is. - The Singing Ghosts: Plays at the waiting area. - The Singing Statues: Plays at the part with the singing Statues (no shit). All of these tracks play for 40 seconds and are synchronized with each other during the ride. I'm still trying to collect all of these tracks in high quality, but I'm still looking for some stuff. The sound effects seem to come from a library. When I searched the internet, I found "The Laughing Fat Girl" really fast.
Wow, you weren't kidding! They did change a lot. Too bad that they removed the skeletons after the singing statues - I thought they were really cool. Thanks so much for your detailed write-up about the soundtrack. It's very informative, and much appreciated!
While a ripoff,I find it to be a bit spookier and more macabre...and,dare I say, more German. You needn't know what they're saying to enjoy the ride and the quality is much better than most of the dark rides I've been in here in the States. As always,it was a great video.
I can see where some areas can me compared and resemble the Haunted Mansion in a way. But this is much more dark and raw of an attraction than what Disney has. Either way I'd go on it multiple times. I'm a horror movie buff so this is perfect for me!
Agreed. They blatantly ripped off the ride vehicles, the stretch room, and the busts. Other than that, the rest of the ride is very much its own thing, and very much worth multiple ride-thrus.
