  • I had a great time with my buddy Bryan Mindte of Sunset Provisions and Minty Clean catching some giant yellow perch on the Nanticoke River. Many thanks to my other buddy Eric Sexton for the minnow hook up!!

    They were so fat that they couldn't fight. Just fought for a few seconds then came up to the surface and skied to the boat! Awesome! 🤯

    It was great finally meeting you at the Pa. Outdoor Show. Glad you made it back home. That must of been a long week. Hope you did well there. My Dad started me out fishing for White and Yellow Perch at a very young age. Never well forget it , or him. Used nightcrawlers and Mepps spinners. Awesome times with my Dad. I do have a White Perch Citation somewhere. It was a monster. You guys are like kids in a candy shop. Love it. Lol

    Used to catch them like that years ago in Nanjemoy Creek on the Potomac River.I am all for keeping a few fish for dinner. I just hate to see those big females full with row go into the box. 20 between you isn't going to deplete them. I just hope they can make a rebound like this in areas on the Western Shore where they were once plentiful. Hasn't been that way for years so highly doubt they rebound.

    • @FishinOC
      @FishinOC  6 місяців тому +1

      These fish were healthy and plentiful. We kept what we ate and threw a bunch back. If we improve water quality I think the rebound continues.

      @@FishinOC That's great. I know you do your part and only keep what you intend to eat.I hope one day they rebound into areas on the Western Shore where they once thrived. Severn Run, Allan's Fresh ,Mason Springs, Bacon Ridge Branch,and Wayson Corner just to name a few. I am certain you know and fished a lot of these places as a kid. I did here you say you were a Bowie boy from one of your previous videos. I live not to far away from there and remember when these places had tremendous runs of yellow perch. I certainly hope it returns. Enjoy your videos Scott.

      No, unfortunately no good fishing minnows in MD waters of the bay, but ok for worms or fish bites.

    FYI circle hooks are required now when fishing for yellows. Also please consider fishing catch and release. No reason to be taking all those fat females full of eggs before they have gotten to spawn. Protect the fish for future generations to enjoy.

    • @ericsexton6799
      @ericsexton6799 5 місяців тому

      Well , circle hooks as far as I can see are required in Maryland waters , Scott appears to be in Delaware , as far as spawning fish , this fishery and its biomass are very healthy ( in the nanticoke) , as a matter of fact , Delaware has no limits on the amount of yellow perch one may retain. As far as keeping spawning fish , as a substance fisherman like myself, providing food for my family ,would you like me to release them all? Please provide me with your pertinent details so I may charge my families nutritional needs towards your provided info , please go play with your trains , it seems your logic may better understand by them

    • @FishinOC
      @FishinOC  5 місяців тому +2

      Hey Playingwithtrains! Thanks for the comments. That circle hook rule is a different discussion, but we were fishing Delaware waters so we were fine. As for the pregnant females. We LOVE yellow perch so we kept enough for a couple of meals and released way more than we kept to make little perch. Thanks for watching!!

    • @playingwithmytrains5440
      @playingwithmytrains5440 5 місяців тому

      @@ericsexton6799 I think your family will be fine if they go a few weeks without eating a female full of eggs. I didn't say never keep any fish just the ones that are spawning. We can just agree to disagree on this. Sound good! My belief on protecting our environment isn't going to change just because I ruffled your feathers.

      @@FishinOC Hey Scott that circle hook thing surprised me. Not sure if I understand why that law is in place for yellows but I plan to get someone at the DNR to explain it to me. I prefer eating white perch over the yellows myself. I just feel the season should be closed on any fish that is in its spawn. But that's just me. I am a catch and release guy most of the time. I just enjoy being on the water.

    • @FishinOC
      @FishinOC  5 місяців тому

      Talked to someone at DNR today and they may revisit. Put in place to protect strippers, but that’s a little much I think. Only applies to live minnows. We really enjoy yellows and a buddy likes the roe. Have fun out there!

  • @joehawk9839
    @joehawk9839 5 місяців тому +1

    So currently under MD DNR regulations regarding live lining you very well could be using an illegal rig. I guess the State of MD makes the rules up as they go along. There definitely needs to be a updated clarification on what is legal. Is a nightcrawler, blood worm, grass shrimp, or whatever other kind of live bait being used without a circle hook illegal????. What about j hooks or a shad dart with a hook gap less than 1/2 in legal?. I went fishing yesterday and used a float and shad dart with no bait and caught all the white perch I wanted to on the Western Shore. So what's the difference with my rig if I had bait on it or not???

    • @FishinOC

      @@FishinOC Ok thanks Scott. Btw my father on March 5th joined the big water in heaven. He was 87 and an avid angler. If I ever get to meet you in person I have stories of my father fishing in Ocean City on our family vacations. Back in the 60's and 70's there were many a night spent in the jetties, route 50 bridge, old railroad bridge at stinky beach, and surf fishing from the beach. These were the best seats in the world. I wouldn't change it for anything. RIP Dad.
