In that quick scroll of comments in the video, I'm seeing a lot of people say that what Zack actually said is something along the lines of if you put rules and regulations on the situations a character can be in, and have them only react to those situations in one way, then they can never grow. It's the same thing that applies to Superman at the end of MoS. People THINK they know these characters, but they just want to have the safe versions of them in their little....err....bottles. When people realize that something like MoS didn't establish any way for Clark to win except kill Zod, then people fall back on the "well then they shouldn't have written him into a no way out situation" argument, only showing they want a sanitized, safe bottled up version. Superman and Batman killing is not only not new to the comics, it's not even new to the films! At least Superman killed Zod in MoS when he was actively threatening innocent lives AND admitted he'd never stop. The almighty Christopher Reeve murdered his completely depowered Zod in cold blood when he could have taken him to any prison in the industrialized world. Bale killed his mentor in cold blood by "not saving him" and people didn't bat an eye! Posts like in the video just prove that the media, DCEU and Snyder haters, and "real DC fans" will jump at any opportunity to twists Snyder's words
No one is talking about it because it was a great film, it's full of controversy and the director won't stop talking about it, making people talk about it. You are entitled to your opinion, but trying to claim BVS is better than Avengers is not a factual statement and puts you in the minority. Infinity War mops the floor with BVS, so does the first Avengers movie and Civil War. Endgame wasn't that great in my opinion, but it tripled BVS box office.
I really love BvS but your comment is a cope. The film is always talked about for it's controversial elements. Unlike Endgame nobody only focuses on the positive stuff.
I listened to the full clip (not the full interview lol), and I feel like people missed the point and overreacted. Being told not to depict Batman in a situation where he may have to break his one rule and immediately wanting to do just that is comparable to anyone’s desire and interest in doing something after being told not to do it. Plus, he said something about it just being interesting for a character’s morals to become compromised and for them to have to deal with the consequences. If Batman broke his no kill rule, it forces him to change, and he has to live with his actions and grow from them. By refusing to ever put Batman in a situation like that, he is effectively not morally tested and doesn’t have to grow or change. Honestly I really think it’s done well in BVS Ultimate Edition. Batman is effectively a villain and doesn’t realize it. He brands criminals for death, he has a “new kind of mean,” and he’s much more violent because he has fought evil in Gotham for so long that it is in turn corrupting him. It’s not until he’s moments from killing Clark, and Clark tells him to save his mother, that Batman realizes just how far he has fallen from grace. He realizes in that moment that he was about to do to Clark’s mother, what that murderer in Crime Alley did to him when he was a kid. Now, I do think that Batman destroying cars that Lex’s goons are in and continuing to be violent went saving Martha does kinda muddy this theme/idea, but otherwise I think that it’s okay how it was handled in the film.
