  • Here's comparison result that many request to see. Here's what I found with both 2 scanners
    Otter
    - It can scan this dashboard very easy. The large mode depth camera has high performance.
    - No issue or error found.
    - It requires a lot of hose power for your PC. Using with unplug gaming laptop will have impact on performance.
    Raptor
    - It's more difficult to scan. I can get perfect scan result with this, but I need to do it several times, and squeezing myself in a tight space like that is not ideal.
    - No performance drops when using with unplug gaming laptop.
    Both scanners will use GPU and CPU up to 50-60% all the time when scanning and standby. Gaming laptop with RTX4070 GPU will get you the highest performance you can got out of these 2 scanners.

    Very interesting, i thinking to buy one of the two for scanning car parts and car exterior, now i'm oriented to otter. Thank you for all the test and the complete review of the scanners

    It would be nice if the Otter felt as good in the hand and had as good of a grip as the Raptor. The Otter feels like it’s going to slip out of my hand. I also like how the Raptor has the non slip pads when you set it down. What are your thoughts if you had to choose just one? Do you have enough time with each of them to pick only one if you had to? You should do a Pro and Con video of both soon since you’ve done a lot of the basic things most people are wondering ( larger objects, 3d aerosol spray, black and metallic/chrome objects, using it on a desktop and laptop, etc.) Although, maybe you should do a very tiny object next? You’ve really helped everyone in the community out with your videos so far. Thank you.

      I ordered mouse grip tape that use for gamers. 9x6 cm / sheet. Soon or later it'll slip out of my hand.

      I’d guess that the general rule of thumb would be that if you are mainly scanning medium to large parts, then go for the Otter. If you are mainly scanning small parts that require high accuracy and/or detail go for the Raptor. It’s really a pity the Raptor does not perform so well for IR scans.
      For me it was a tough decision, but based on Payo’s very helpful videos I eventually ordered the Raptor, as I envision my main use will be for smaller parts with higher accuracy and detail.

      @@bjondersson 💯💯 Also, the raptor CAN perform well I’m IR but you’ll just have to work a little harder and it will take a little longer…where as the otter can do laser… the irony is you can buy both to have what u need and STILL be a fraction of the cost of a einscan HX even though it’s not metrology grade… we need these scanners

    Another great video! Thanks for sharing. I find the Raptor much more interesting because of the laser scanning mode. Unfortunately the IR scanning does not seem to be so good on Raptor because scanning area is quite small. Would like to see also some more videos on the laser scanning with Raptor. :-)

    I Have seen you can use a bunched up a rug or sheet on the opposite side of the windscreen to scan more of dashboard, as the scanner picks up on the complex geometry of the bunched up fabric.

    Not sure if you did this video for me as I asked about interior carts parts on a previous video but if you did THANK YOU!!! And for talking about the specs on a computer!!!!
    I’m likely getting a RTX 4070 Asus G14 laptop! But still a little on fence for a 4060 😅
    Thanks again mate!!

      I guess it was you, most people ask for car body scan. Otter did very well, I think that you can scan the whole car interior without any markers.

    Thanks for doing this video, scanning car interiors is exactly what I'm hoping to do with a 3D scanner. The quality of the Otter certainly does look better, but is it high enough detail to be able to import into Fusion360 and accurately design parts to clip onto vents and switch panels and other small to medium components? I'm talking mobile phone holders, drink holders, gauge pods, accessory panels etc. Or for that sort of thing do you switch to a different (small object?) mode and get higher detail?

    • @Payo-TensileCreator

      You can scan first time with large depth camera then use small depth camera to do additional scan in the area that require higher detail and merge them in the software.

    Really interesting video.
    Now I’m leaning towards the Otter after seeing this video.
    I’d love to see how well the raptor would scan a car interior using markers and blue laser.
    Did you update the firmware for both of the scanners yet?
    Thank you so much.
    I’m glad to see how much your channel has grown in a couple weeks…amazing work.

      Blue laser scanning area is only 20x10 cm. That would be a long long video haha. What I'm interested is Otter large object in marker mode. I've tested it, it only uses 4-5 marker/m2 and track very fast. Yes, Otter was updated once and Raptor is twice since I bought them.

    I have seen videos on 3d scanning windshields that use rags/cloths when scanning, with great results
    (Pack blankets on the opposite side of the windscreen).
    You actually used the same cloth structures to track in your latest video.

  • @troyallen8090
    @troyallen8090 2 місяці тому +1

    Did you try scanning the interior using the blue laser at any stage?
    I would think it would pick up more detail, even if you needed small clusters of markers just to help with tracking over the wide area, also would the black scan better with the blue laser?

    • @Payo-TensileCreator
      @Payo-TensileCreator  2 місяці тому +3

      I think the best way is to scan in NIR mode then make additional scan with blue laser on the area that need higher detail, then merge them. If I would scan the whole dashboard at high resolution, my PC won't be able to process it.

    Where you are talking about, how the frames drop when your laptop is unplugged. Is it possible to change that battery save function in either the bios or windows?
    Also if you have on CPU die/chip GPU, make sure to turn that off in the bios.
    Force it to use the RTX4070.

    The NIR of the Raptor seems to be comparable to the Ferret, based on the specs. Would you agree? The specs of the Otter is much higher. It would be interesting to see a comparison of the Ferret and Raptor NIR.

    I tested the Otter with Ankers 6ft Thunderbolt 4 cable on a MacBook Pro M3 Max and it works, you just need to make something to keep it screwed onto the Otter so it doesn’t disconnect when scanning. I tried the same cable with the Raptor, but it didn’t work. I purchased the Anker USB 4 240V cable and it should arrive tomorrow. Hoping that will work with the Raptor. I’ll let you know. I would be great if you can just use a single USB C cable with the Raptor.

    • @Payo-TensileCreator
      @Payo-TensileCreator  2 місяці тому +3

      The thing is Raptor uses 12V. The cable I use has embed chip and it will ask 12V from the source. If the scanner itself can't send signal to ask for 12V so your laptop won't send out 12V just 5V. Let me know if this work, I really like to use just one cable as well.

    Could you use a powered docking station plugged into your laptop, that has powered Thunderbolt 4.0/USB3.2/4.0?
    I’d like to see an add on kit that uses the same technology wireless monitors use.
    Imagine something you can plug into your Raptor/Otter that makes it a fully wireless 3d scanner.

    Great video , thx for all ur tests , is it possible to compare the color map and texture results of these scanners ? Im very interested to buy one to scan museums objects but i need a good color quality

      I did try color mapping once. It doesn't turn out well, maybe, I don't have constant lighting. Let me get some studio lights and I'll test it.
