When your tip toeing around the Rico ACT (Rico laws) and fear that the "association" alone can end convictions you compare it to the Rockefeller laws (drug conspiracy laws) and see similarities. Both Acts can destroy the "family structure" and jeopardize it as well. Another reason was it wouldn't "jive" with political and law enforcement connections and that would weaken the family's strength (legal support).

Ive always thought that Jimmy Brown was in on the hit of Frankie Decicco.
It was Jimmy Browns place, & he was the main person that knew about that meeting, and the main person that stood to benefit the most from John & Frankie being gone.

Anthony Casso mentioned in his book that jimmy faila and Danny Marino were involved in the plot to kill John Gotti and helped by giving information to the lucchese/genovese families. Chin had told them they would be the new administration of the family and the genovese family would control the Gambino family through them. I’m sure this was written a long time ago in Cassos book.

Ironic that Casso was hellbent on taking down Gotti because he killed Paul; but at the same time, he cooperated with the government. Casso was a murderous rat; the worst combo.

    • @zitiboylilo5789
      @zitiboylilo5789 11 місяців тому +5

A dangerous combo. A true sociopath. No regards, or loyalty to anything whatsoever. He’s a textbook sociopath. It’s telling when he stated when he was younger he wanted to be a cop or a lawyer…. 2 positions that sociopaths flock to. They have no regards for anything or anyone. They truly lack a moral compass or any emotional aspects to anything outside of their pets, and MAYBE their parents or their children. Tony Soprano was a textbook sociopath who loved animals. Shit he even killed his biggest moneymaker, Ralph. He let it slide when Ralph killed a pregnant 19 year old girl, beat the shit out of Tony’s sister, killed other innocent people, women and children.(wasn’t shown or talked about but only talked about). The only time you saw a soft or even human side to Tony was when he was around animals or his children and wife. He was about to kill his own mother for gods sake! David Chase got the psychology of the mafia and sociopathic gangsters down to a tee 100% ! An amazing show that peeled the curtains back on those in the life and the facade of it all.

Gaspipe wanted revenge on John Gotti Sr because he knew that Gotti was the one who okayed the attempt on his life. Because Quack Quack Ruggiero had a drug debt to Casso & he asked Gotti for permission to clip Gaspipe. Casso got shot in 85 because of Quack Quack & John Sr, then ever since then he was the lead man to raise his hand to whack John. Chin knew that as well & used it to his advantage.

Another master class in American 20th century Cosa Nostra studies by the esteemed Professors DiLeonardo and Roger! Paul was caught on FBI tape in his kitchen saying that "Frankie is a gambler always chasing long shots that rarely pay off" (paraphrase). Perhaps Frankie figured that John was gonna strike with the "fist" because Angelo (and Gene) had exposed John to peril, and Frankie wanted to quietly back the play without risking his ass, and be the power behind the Gotti throne knowing that John's flamboyance would make his reign a relatively short one....

Another great show guys. Unfortunately I don’t have patreon account keep up with you guys so when you do put on a UA-cam channel I most sincerely appreciate it. There’s something I’ve been curious about since the black hand print days and that would be the early years of RJ. I remember like yesterday when he once stated that it was always the less fortunate people of our society that used to give them a couple of dollars and say go get yourself a treat at the store etc and those were the type of people who looked out for him while he was growing up. And that statement is so true. It’s so true that it’s always the People who are scratching to get by, are the ones who reach out to help. I think RJ has a somber yet extremely interesting story, coming into a world with not a lot, but becoming one of the nicest, kindest, gentlemen who I subscribe to in the UA-cam world.Like myself hes able to see past the social rung of the ladder and discover the true heart and soul of an individual.IDK his upbringing but I’m 110% sure it would enlighten many and would have a feel good presence to all the listeners. I would love for you guys to change seats and have Michael ask the questions.I don’t want to put RJ on the spot but I do feel he has a upbringing that made him who he is today. That would be one of the most genuine, honest, intelligent, kindest free spirited and yes best smile of all content creators hands down. Would love to hear his story

one of the biggest reasons drugs were a no-no was during the 70's the Rockefeller Act was passed, which attached heavy time for dealing even small amounts, guys were facing 15 to life for an ounce of coke, so the big fear was there would be a good chance that someone facing that kind of time would be susceptible to cooperate. plus the facts that Michael stated

I think I can help answer the question as to why DeCicco did it. I agree, it probably wasn't in his long term best interest.. But, I think he believed that with taking Paul out he would have been number 2 (which he was and was still a step up from where he was under Paul). So he did better his immediate position. He also believed that, if Gotti was messing around, he could have killed Gotti and would have been number 1.
What he failed to think about or just improperly measured was the risk and retaliatory damage associated with killing Paul or anyone for that matter. Killing Paul brought about the added risk of his own death (which is what happened), halting any potential future mobility.
I think, like many, he fell prey to hubris, not realizing how vulnerable he made himself when he killed Paul. Human beings generally believe the odds don't apply equally to them. They may be able to see the odds clearly when it comes to another person, but most are the star of their own movie, and will improperly measure their own risk.
I can give you an example. There was a study done where individuals were asked to estimate the odds of certain occurrences in their life (cancer, getting hit by car, whatever). For any rational person, you would have to think you fall within the overall average. Not shockingly, people grossly overestimated their control over these situations. What was worse though is that even after given the real world data, people still grossly overestimated their ability to beat the odds. This can be a beneficial mentality in that it may allow you to take risks you wouldn't otherwise take and thusly gain you greater rewards. However, it can also push you to mismanage risk such that you can totally do yourself in.
This trait often can make people likable and valuable (even Sammy said "Frankie was always for the underdog") because they can be perceived as virtuous and fearless. However, the underdog is often the underdog for good reason, so if you're not careful, you can easily bite off more than you can chew.
Carlo Gambino, to me, seems like an excellent risk manager. Joe Bonanno chastised Gambino because he would allow Anastasia to abuse him. You can look at this another way and say that Gambino was just exercising restraint, prudence, and most importantly patience. He allowed Anastasia to lower his guard, and made his move. He also realized that Genovese was useful in that moment, but probably not long term because of his lack of intelligence, and benefited from the alliance until it ran its course. What's most important though is that when he got to the top, he didn't lose sight of himself. He realized that despite all of his successes, he was probably now in the most vulnerable position he's ever been and instead of doubling down, he went into the shadows.
All of this being said, one cannot discount good fortune. Luck plays a role in all of this, especially in life/death scenarios. So, it could just be that one was luckier than the other.

The Jimmy Brown thing is shared by others. Even Sammy has hinted and almost directly implicated him in the same way. Sammy mentioned that the day DeCicco was hit, literally right after the explosion, that Brown and Danny Marino approached Sammy and said "we're going to leave, just let us know what you need us to do." Sammy was irate, and clearly made the inference that those two left for a reason of self-preservation.
What many have said is what Michael is saying. Chin, et al were going to go after top brass in Gambino family and Jimmy would have been installed as boss. That's what he means by "sit back."

I remember hearing that the Chin and Gas Pipe and them wanted to kill several guys who were close to John, strong guys, ...to weaken him.. I think because once they do get to killing John, the blowback will be way way less with his strongest allies dead.. which kinda makes sense.. DeCicco was one of the strongest guys in the family, Lino was a feared captain and known shooter and Boriello is a beast and longtime enforcer.. so, those are guys they'd wanna take out of that were true.. Just a thought.. because I've always wondered the same thing, there was never even an attempt to kill John, if you don't count the car bomb and the random religious guy that Watts killed..

There were multiple attempts to get John, but they were foiled. The FBI was actually telling John beforehand about not going to certain restaurants & social clubs because they would pick up on wiretaps about plots on his life. They were literally keeping him alive because they knew they were going to indict him on the Commission case. For instance, Bobby Manna & the Jersey Crew for the Genovese were going to hit John & Gene Gotti when they had learned the two of them were supposed to be going to a club in NJ. The FBI got to John before he left & told him not to go, because there would be gunmen waiting for him & Gene outside of the club.

I think why Sammy, John and others didn't tell you about Chin being the one causing Gambinos getting whacked was because they didn't want rumours about that circulating as it would make the Castellano whackers more easily visible as guilty, which could escalate the situation - just like you said, Mikey, about John blaming it on Sicilians and Chin having to go along with it instead of escalating by outing him in the meeting.

All the people the don ‘has in his pocket’ wouldn’t be friendly to him anymore if they knew he was involved in drugs - that says a lot.

    Paused @ the 6:33 mark.
I don't know if I ever mentioned to you, Mike or RJ, that before I started using crack cocaine, or powder before then, that I sold crack cocaine and powder. I had customers that smoked, snorted, and banged (injected in arms).
I was a low level street dealer, I did it part time as I worked a full time job. Most I made selling was about $300 in profit a week when excluding money for re-uping.
I bring it up because more than once I have wondered if God mercifully allowed me to become a crack addict so that I may pay for my sin this side of the veil, rather than the other side in the next life, for selling destruction and death to those I did. I never grasped back then what misery I was helping to spread, and I profited off of it like a vampire.
I deeply regret selling that stuff. I wish I never did.
