There is a lot of love and other emotions that is put into a project like this, and this brought back memories of a small cedar urn I made for my daughter a little over a decade ago. I was in tears the entire time - as was my son. That was my last wood working project, and maybe someday I will find the strength to build again.
It`s a loss we all have to face one day, but adding a personal touch as the marker you made prove`s the love you had for him. God Bless You for the passing. He`s smiling from above.
Sorry for your loss, glad you found a fitting way to pay tribute to your late father. I love the t-bar fence post installation, very simple and effective! I may borrow that idea for my mailbox which needs redoing this spring!
hey, I'm sure your father is very proud of you and he loved this gift you made for him .. My condolences for your father and congratulations for the gift you have
Sorry to hear about your Dad. What a way to show how much you cared about him! Great job - I'm sure he would be proud of you and say "Job Well Done, Son."
sorry for your loss, i know he passed away awhile ago but someone close to our heart never gets easier to be without. he would also be proud. love your work.
May your father rest in peace. The way you talked about him in your videos painted a great person. I'm sure wherever he is, he is looking down at you, being proud.
Truly sorry for your loss. I lost a brother a couple of years ago to severe sleep apnea. On a separate note: I have always enjoyed how woodworkers like yourself and Steve Ramsey have never been afraid to show when something doesn't work out as well as you hoped. I have thought about burning an inset and planing off excess before, now I know it may not work like I was thinking.
Sincerest condolences. I find this video very difficult to watch without weeping. I lost my sister 4 years ago. What a beatiful way to celebrate your father. God Bless.
Mr. Wandel My hat off to you sir. How proud of you your Father must be - how pleased with you and your love and respect for your dad. Being a genius and a humble person - not often compatible traits. Thank you for your sharing. Handy Andy
I don't know how I missed this video among all of the others of yours I have seen but this is one of the most touching. Making that marker to honor your father is awesome. Well done, Matthias.
You had a great mentor and its nice that you honor him! Keep his memory in your heart and share your skill and craftsmanship as you have done. God Bless!
Who are the 25 heartless bastards who would thumbs down a man building a grave marker for his father? You should be ashamed to call yourself a human being. I know how Matthais feels and things like this help heal the heart and soul. I lost my dad in 1999 and it still hurts to this day. Have some respect people.
Well, even Europe is different in different places. These wooden grave markers are common in the southern parts. Here (Scandinavia) it's almost exclusively stones, typically granite, with inscriptions. The graves are leased too, and stones normally used as coastal protection after 30-40 years. Interesting and unusual project. Well done!
i know your dads proud of that. because lets face it, your a cabinet maker that makes tools instead of cabinets. you learned from the best because your dad is a great cabinet maker
Your method of of installing the marker is genius! It could be used for so many applications involving posts and such. I'm sorry that it was under these circumstances to present it but I have no doubts your father is very proud!
Its part of our humanity to express our sorrow, Matthias, just like its part of our humanity to find is hard to hear other express sorrow. I lost my mother five years ago, and I too found others condolences hard to hear. Nevertheless, I'm glad others were human enough to remember her with sorrow, and to see my pain. Its gets easier. That is a beautiful tribute for a cabinet maker.
Your marker is beautiful, and the stone behind it gives it the feeling of nature to the composition. Tho you're not asking for it, I really am sorry for your loss.
Every time I watch one of your videos I come away with lots of ideas to try different things. Thank you for sharing your work! Making the videos rakes extra time and is appreciated.
Apparently, reading is the most difficult part of UA-cam... My dad died 2 years ago and i'm planning replacing the current wooden cross for a new one, you sorta inspired me (even when i will do a completely different design). I'm not a professional or anything, just hobbyist as my dad was.
the point he makes in the article is a good one. perhaps they will invest in a permanent stone when the time is right. but i for one find the wooden memorial a very touching and appropriate thing to remember the life of a woodworker. i would be honored to be given the same when i leave this world for the next.
That was a very nice tribute. I just stumbled across your old videos of your Dad's homestead and your camp. He seemed like quite the guy. I wish I could have known him. Thanks for sharing.
great video as usual and what a nice touch to be able too honour your family in this way. i have found that simply reversing a saw blade will also cut metal without damaging your teeth. though i only used a cheap skilsaw blade for that purpose.
Honor is spelt as Honour in British English TheTechGuider. Sorry to hear about the loss Matthias. I am sure he must be proud soul to have introduced such a genius to the wood working world.
Nice memorial. Your pantarouter sure does a fantastic job. I noticed in your links that your brother and you look a lot alike (at least from the 3/4 rear view). And I can definitely see hints of your dad's face in yours. I'll bet he was very proud of you and your work.
Looks great :) Is worth noting that it's best to find out first if wooden markers are allowed, here in New Zealand for example the local cemetery will remove them for the reasons you give.
Greetings from finland and sorry for your loss. I also lost my father few years ago and i wish i could have skills to make his urn by my self. I'm also engineer and i do mechanical design for my living, but pantorouter plans i bought from you. Sometimes re design is not necessary ;)
Hi there sir. Im sorry for your loss my friend i do hope your ok. Your wood working is amazing and i love the design of the chross. Well done sir keep up the good work.
I read the article and think the stone is a nice sentiment. In the 1800s and early 1900s people who were too poor to afford a headstone would etch names into natural stones. They are called fieldstones. I maintain a small local cemetery and we were able to read the names off of several of the stones.
Terribly sorry for your loss, but this is a beautiful tribute to your father. Thank you for sharing.
Same thoughts

I hope you are hanging in there, my friend. I also hope you have picked up something that seems to be your passion: woodworking.

I'm 2 years late, but My condolences Matthias.

I too lost my father in 2012. I could imagine this was a tough build. it looks wonderful I'm sure your father is proud to have that marker. God speed.
You had a great mentor and its nice that you honor him! Keep his memory in your heart and share your skill and craftsmanship as you have done.
God Bless!
Awesome job Matthias. You make your father proud with the great work you do.
From the videos you made of the cabins and his shop, this was a perfect remembrance.

Great job and a wonderful way to remember a fellow woodworker. I'm sure your dad would be proud.
It looks very nice Matthias. The black paint in the letters shows up well. A fitting tribute to your father.

Thanks for sharing - I love the shot of you planing away the excess painted wood. Such a great 'reveal'.
What a neat tribute to your dad. Thanks for sharing that.
That was a very nice tribute. I just stumbled across your old videos of your Dad's homestead and your camp. He seemed like quite the guy. I wish I could have known him. Thanks for sharing.

I love this your effort and planning shows your love and respect for your father. Woodworkers tend to be introverts due partly to working long h

By the thumbnail it looked like it was a tiny little thing, but that thing is big! Lovely thing to do for your father.
That is pretty amazing to do. I'm sure your father would be proud
among all the products he has made..the best product was u...keep up the good job :)
Looks great :) Is worth noting that it's best to find out first if wooden markers are allowed, here in New Zealand for example the local cemetery will remove them for the reasons you give.

Thanks for leaving that bit about torching the letters in the vid; I would've guessed that would work to.
I can think of no greater or more fitting way to honor your father.
Perfect tribute. Nicely done.
Terribly sorry for your loss R.I.P
"Oben draufhauen" :D
wonderful
Hab’s gewusst. Matthias und Wilfried. And that kind of skill...
Oba draufhaua, sogar schwäbisch. Hann i mir echt denkt. Sieht älteste so siaddeitsch aus bei eich. One wie
Kind of traditional that way. Also, makes the wood last much longer.

Great video once again. Great idea with the spray paint inside the letters.
hours in a woodshop alone. Your monument is very befitting.
gorgeous man, I love watching your stuff. makes me jealous lol but still love watching it.
