Hey Dom. Norman Fearrington here..drummer for Santana, Tina Turner, Diz Gillespie Phila Inter Records, etc. I love your videos man. Musical, instructive, and full of energy. Thanks
The problem we have today is that we have way too many options. The temptation of distraction is nearly impossible to avoid. The overall quality is so high in software. With dedication at focus great songs can be made with nearly any VI synth, a pair of effects and the DAW. Thank you for putting this out. I think it would be great for many new artist to see you make a song from start to finish with just one instrument in Cubase.
this is true, you go from wanting to create music to collecting plugins you don't use much. I think as both a Cubase and Ableton user, I end up in the latter a lot because there is no GUI distraction just unified tools that work, however, that's just DAW preferences yet again, all functions are the same in each, record, modify and send out the speakers, with options to do that, the main trick to watch out for is an emulation of very old hardware no one has ever used, so no point of reference, Cubase channel strips and built-in effects processing and tools does everything you would want, Dom points out some goodies above, Cubase built-in sampler as an actual instrument is a really great way to build up interesting things off resampling recordings of yourself or sound design elements, be great if they implemented a synth that has all the features you would need like that, but yeah, its like walking into a warehouse these days with 1000 variations of the same thing, so i can relate to that need for simplicity and consolidated tool sets so you don't end up lost for years.
@@prewinder I've got a muse receptor 2 full nice vst rack machine for that purpose. Really great doing that. Connects you to the music, gets your playing skills up. Those important muso vibes. 🙏🎶
I use Test Generator all the time to reinforce or add fundamentals to kicks and snares! Sometimes I just love the character or vibe of a drum sound I'm working with, but I can't get it to hit the way I want. I'll put an instance of Test Generator on a group track with a gate immediately after, then trigger the sidechain on the gate with the kick or snare I want to reinforce. I set Test Generator to a general starting frequency (~65 Hz for kicks, ~200 Hz for snares) and play around with the frequency until I'm getting the right "thump" I'm looking for. Sine wave tends to sound the most transparent, but you can get wild results by playing around with different wave shapes. All that's left after that is to blend to taste and presto!
Still use and LOVE cubase stock compressor. The fact that I can dial anywhere inbetween peak and rms is awesome and, oddly, not a feature I've found in other 3rd party comps. If there is one, atleast cubases comp puts it at the forefront.
My mind is pretty blown. I'm still running a very old Artist v 8 and even just having access to these updated stock plugins in 12 makes the upgrade to Pro all the more compelling, now Steinberg have sent me a discounted price. I'd definitely be interested in seeing videos dedicated to each of these (noting you already did the multitap delay). Thank you for opening our eyes to what's in front of us.
I really appreciate these videos! I’m new to Nuendo, switching from protools, since October so I’m always watching your cubase videos. I haven’t dived into the stock plug-ins since I already own lots of 3rd party ones. But the stepper and envelop shaper are two that I needed. The Cloner is also something I’d love to mess around with. Great value on this one!
The step filter is super fun. Great on distorted guitar. A really creative plugin. An in-depth video would be great. Thanks for the videos Dom. And that tap delay sounds like a lot of fun.
Another great video, Dom! Yet again making me feel bad for having bought SO many third party plugins unnecessarily.😢 Hopefully I am cured now, trying to remember how much is already included in my Cubase 12 Pro. And yes, please, videos on the filter and the mod!
A great video Dom, literally another revelation. I can only agree: "Learn to work with Cubase's own plugins". In most cases, these lead to the same good sonic result as many third-party plugins in the same category. I've experienced this myself over the past few months. The third-party plugins often look much more spectacular and suggest that the sound result will be even better. But that is a fallacy. That's not the case, apart from a few very special plugins for the absolute top studio scene, which most of us bedroom producers don't really need anyway, because it's not the plugins that make the music better, but the people/musicians with their know-how, including his many years of practice and experience. For me personally, the typical buying spree of third party plugins was over by the end of 2022. Another reason was that I had totally lost track of all the plugins and didn't even know what "fancy" plugins I had. I'm "cured" 😉
Great video! I have to say that especially when it comes to Multitap Delay I completely agree with Dom. Don't sleep on this one, it's not a case of "it does the job" or "it's just as good". This plugin goes well above and beyond! Super powerful, super versatile, I use it all the time!
This is really fantastic content! I admit I am one of those that hardly ever reach for the stock plug ins in Cubase. Just recently I made a personal comparison between reverence and some other third party plugins. And the stock plugin performed amazing. This one really helped me a lot. Thx for the good work
Yes yes yes please Dom! Please make videos of these amazing stock plugins. Only you explore these tools to the full making them so much more fun, useful and practical for us lesser producers! Thanks for your valuable videos!

Great video Dom. Yes, stock plugins are great and also very well integrated into Cubase thus not consuming CPU like crazy. My 2 cents: 1) Multitap delay: is just a "killing machine".
