Oscar Wilde, in full Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde, is a famous Irish playwright, wit, poet, and dramatist best known for his famous novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray (1891), and his comic masterpieces Lady Windermere's Fan (1892) and The Importance of Being Earnest (1893).
He is best known for his plays and novels, but he also wrote essays, poems, short stories, and fairy tales. His parents were well-known in the art world of Victorian Ireland. His father, Sir William Wilde, was Ireland’s leading ear and eye surgeon and his mother, who wrote under the name Speranza, was a revolutionary poet and an authority on Celtic myth and folklore.
