The one thing I learned is making yeast products. Especially make loaves of bread...NOW always make the cross on my dough before I put it to rise. Bonita. Make three little pieces of dough for one loaf of BREAD in my tin. MORE and MORE. I have copies of all the yeast recipies and bake them often. I became interested in Sourdough in 2016 and was gifted with a sourdough started from the Original Oregon Trail. I bake Soudough Breads WEEKLY. Best for digestion. I watch all your videos Bonita. Love them. Keep it up. I’m from Gander Bay but been in Fort Mcmurray for almost 20 years. My mom is also an excellent cook but she don’t use recipes, so when I call her to ask how to make something she can never really tell me quantities or timing. Frustrating really.😂😂. Then I check bonitas kitchen and sure enough there it is. Timing/ quantities. Few years ago I wanted to make blueberry steam pudding. We grew up eating that with our Sunday dinner. I could never get it right. Did exactly what mom said but wouldn’t turn right. Typed in blueberry steam pudding into UA-cam and discovered Bonitas Kitchen. The next steam pudding turned out perfect. It was the baking soda quantity that mom was telling me wrong. Tsp not tbsp. 😂😂😂. I don’t ask mom anymore.. I check your channel.. I’ve cooked numerous things over past few years for family and friends. I’m always asked “ my god this so good. Where did you learn to make that ? Or you have to give me the recipe for that . I called my mom and said can you help me with some recipe. She read out what she did and it didn't tune out for me. Mom never wrote down her recipes but my aunt clara her sister wrote all of her recipes down and we even got her to be a guest on our channel. I spoke to many elders here and around our communities over the years and I couldn't find one elder who wrote down their recipes. They all said the same thing.....a pinch of this and a pinch of that!!! Oh my!!! Thank you so much for sharing your message with all of us and for enjoying our recipe and channel. After nine years sharing recipes we thought it was time to share with our viewers why we started our channel.....having access to our cultural recipes is important to all of us. I was so happy to find Bonita's Kitchen several years ago and thoroughly enjoy watching, and learning. I've been in Alberta for 56 years but I grew up in Northeastern England just south of the border with Scotland, and I see many parallels with Bonita's recipes and those I grew up with back home. Even though we tried other cultural meals over those 28th wonderful years. But one recipe stands out was this tasty meal from the local bistro restaurant for maple salmon and feta and herb dressing salad.....this is a link from a video we did!!! Raymond is a lucky man. But there are many of us(lucky men) now because he shares your cooking with us. Do you double cook fries? How about corn on the cob? I love organ meat, liver, heart. Do you have a foodie trick on that ingredient? It sounds weird, but I love you guys.
HI Paul and thank you for your message and for enjoying our channel....I'm so glad you tossed some questions in.....No I don't double cook fries, but most people do to help give them a extra crispy crunch. I feel it takes on to much oil for me. In 2010, my then-boyfriend and my parents made a trip to Newfoundland. We hiked Gros Morne and then found a Jiggs dinner at a community centre after, and the company and food felt like a big, warm, hug, and that's how I feel when I watch your channel ❤

I was so happy to find Bonita's Kitchen several years ago and thoroughly enjoy watching, and learning. I've been in Alberta for 56 years but I grew up in Northeastern England just south of the border with Scotland, and I see many parallels with Bonita's recipes and those I grew up with back home. Even though we tried other cultural meals over those 28th wonderful years. But one recipe stands out was this tasty meal from the local bistro restaurant for maple salmon and feta and herb dressing salad.....this is a link from a video we did!!! Raymond is a lucky man. But there are many of us(lucky men) now because he shares your cooking with us. Do you double cook fries? How about corn on the cob? I love organ meat, liver, heart. Do you have a foodie trick on that ingredient? It sounds weird, but I love you guys.
HI Paul and thank you for your message and for enjoying our channel....I'm so glad you tossed some questions in.....No I don't double cook fries, but most people do to help give them a extra crispy crunch. I feel it takes on to much oil for me. I just soak the potatoes in cold water to remove some starch and pat dry well with paper towels and deep fry until they are crispy........Corn on the cob I add sea salt, sugar and butter to the water while boiling them to give then a delicious taste. .....When cooking liver and heart don't over cook them I will share a video for chicken liver, onions and brewis.....so tasty!!! ua-cam.com/video/bLncIorg77s/v-deo.htmlsi=07jvDDNkrkvlZA6a I hope this answers some of your questions and thank you for stopping by... :) Bonita
