Wow. Ich muss sagen, ich hatte bisweilen zu Anfang der Corona-Pandemie echt Angst, dass es solche Orchesterleistungen nicht mehr geben würde, oder wenigstens nicht mehr in dieser Qualität. Obwohl ich ein riesiger Fan von César Franck bin, muss ich zugeben, dass ich dieses Stück nicht kannte und bin wirklich völlig hingerissen, wie bissig und packend das Stück ist, grandios dazu noch die Orchestrierung, die in der Aufnahme hier messerscharf zur Geltung kommt. Egal, was der Tonmeister für ein Gehalt bekommt, der ist jeden Cent wert, den er bekommt. Die Produktionswerte dieses Videos sind insgesamt unfassbar gut, die Bildqualität jenseits von Gut und Böse.

As a French horn player, I have a very biased worldview... "The Cursed Huntsman" is one of those tone poems that is perhaps not as well-known as it should be. It's a fun piece to play, and a fun piece to hear. Everything I've ever heard the Frankfurt RS perform has been brilliantly done, and this is no exception. That Alexander 103 sound is unmistakable, and the sheer sound the orchestra generates is astounding. Bravo/a to everyone here!
Brillante und wunderschöne Aufführung dieses spätromantischen und fein komponierten Tongedichts mit farbenreichen doch perfekt vereinigten Tönen aller Instrumente. Der intelligente und geniale Dirigent leitet das ausgezeichnete Orchester im lebhaften Tempo und mit möglichst effektiver Dynamik. Wundervoll vom Anfang bis zum Ende!

I have never heard of this piece, but after a listen I'm falling in love with it!
You should track down the poem it is based on. The structure of the piece follows it to the letter. It is quite impressive how Franck managed that.
I really like how he illustrates the turn of events in the story. Especially the moment when the sound of horses and hunters around the Count suddenly vanishes and he tries to sound his horn but nothing comes out. Then the voice that comes and speaks his judgement and then finally how Franck manages to come up with a musical idea for the sulfuric mist that suddenly creeps up at 9:55 and the fear that grows in him.

Francks sinfonische Dichtungen hört man leider selten. Die Vorlage zu "Le chasseur maudit" bildet Gottfried August Bürgers Ballade "Der wilde Jäger". Sie beginnt mit den Worten: "Der Wild- und Rheingraf stiess in's Horn: Halloh, halloh zu Fuss und Ross!"
Fleuch, Unhold, fleuch, und werde jetzt,
Von nun an bis in Ewigkeit,
Von Höll und Teufel selbst gehetzt!
Zum Schreck der Fürsten jeder Zeit,
Die, um verruchter Lust zu fronen,
Nicht Schöpfer noch Geschöpf verschonen!
Qui chasse des coeurs receptivs pour la misericorde est fascilement maudit. Car sa misericorde tellement profonde et alors inexpectable . Il chasse pas vraiment il est plustot triste pas être cherché. Et celui qui chasse plaisir est oas vraiment maudit des plaisirs mais de ses douleurs nonconscient dans son coeur qui lui font drogué plaisir
Franck war schon wirklich ein Meister der Form und Orchesterbehandlung. Schade, dass er so selbstkritisch war und nur so wenige Werke geschrieben hat.
Was die Interpretation angeht, warte ich immer noch auf den Moment in dem jemand Riccardo Muti mit seiner Aufnahme mit dem Philadelphia Orchestra übertrifft.
Auch diese hier schafft es nicht. Dafür ist der Richtspruch nicht breit und majestätisch genug musiziert und die anschließende Wilde Jagd ab 10:56 nicht gehetzt genug. Ab 12:29 kommt es dann hin, aber der Übergang vom vorherigen Tempo zum neuen ist mir nicht organisch genug. Wenn das vorherige Tempo bereits deutlich schneller gewesen wäre, dann hätte es mich mehr überzeugt.
Aber klingen tut das ganze wie immer hervorragend.
Franck composed hundreds of works - most of them were published during his lifetime. However, only 21 of them were given opus numbers. They were early works which he later dismissed as inferior compositions. The small amount of numbered works is no indication of his complete output. Best wishes from Vermont! 🌻🐧🌻
@@TheStockwell I was talking about Orchestral Works. He did write some in his early life then made a huge break betwen 1845 and 1875. And basically only his late orchestral works can count as what we consider "Franck" today. And that's a total of 3 works for Orchestra alone, one with added Chorus and two with Piano.
So whenever someone wants to program Franck without booking extra forces they can pick out of a whopping 3 works.
Two of which they played in this program. ;)
