My thought right away after listening to this is that it was a bit one-sided. We heard a large amount from Josh who is of one particular viewpoint in the possibilities of AI and creation by humans of a sentient being. He does not seem to see an issue with it, but I have read the opinions of other researchers who find tremendous problems with ever reaching that pie in the sky goal, namely that we cannot even begin to define what sentience and consciousness are. When you look at the problem generally and think that consciousness is nothing but a super complex algorithm, that is a serious problem that raises ethical concerns. We have millions of opinions, but no definition. I do think we will, like we've seen with the large and unfulfilled promises from origin of life researchers, ultimately run into barriers that will force us to acknowledge who we are, why creation is so special, and the sheer glory of the one who made all that exists.
