    Thank you for another great podcast, you deserve a much larger audience i have subscribed to your channel, even though i am not a christian i am a great fan of John Lennox. Muslims, jews and christians share the same morality and outlook in spite of our differences. As a muslim i wish JL and his thoughts were better known in the muslim world, he is the type of christian i do and can relate to, may God bless him.

      Language being used that is very much derived around brains and in essence humans that is graphed info the fullness of what it means to be human.
      To hear something graphic like mass murdering kid killer is much more personal knowing than it is to hear someone saying school shooter. .
      These tools of approximation have coexisted on a personal level with mankind 😊😮😢

      Bingo our government is trying to replace god. People get so caught up in rhetoric, good and bad. Evil is very very smart. Do not put faith in man use common sense and compassion. I spent my adult life searching for purpose. Studying humanity and history and governments and everything. I could never convince myself to pray to Jesus or god. I tried but felt insincere. Came upon something that connected everything I ever questioned. Don’t let hatred and sick perversions capture your mind use common sense. We are coming to an era of truth.

    Happy 80th birthday to Dr Lennox. May God give you more years before you retire in heaven and live forever with the Lord. God and we wish you a long stay on planet earth, before you depart to heaven for eternal rest. We need you at this critical time to save millions.
    Paul, the great servant of the Lord, said this about departing to heaven to be with the Lord or to be with man on earth.
    I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. ( Philippians 1, 23 ;;24 )

    Fab interview thank you. Mr Lennox is a favourite of mine. This is why I like being Christian.
    God: “use your damn brain.”
    AI: “stop using your brain.”
    Non-believers make fun of others for believing in a Creator yet we’re the ones trying to conserve consciousness and free thought 💀 Prayer is grounding and rather good for the senses. It’s also harmless, it encourages empathy, charity and kindness. AI’s goal is to wipe the slate clean. If people want to dismiss me as a sky fairy worshipping moron as they themselves leave the door open to Creator wannabes and lose complete mental capacity then thats their choice.

      Like John said, AI is nothing but mimicking what already is. Interestingly enough, that is the exact full extent of Satan's power...to mimic what God has already done. AI will be weaponized, but in particular it is being used to lead people away from God. It will never gain consciousness because consciousness cannot be mimicked or copied. How can one truly mimic what cannot be understood? Satan cannot create, only God can create. Consciousness exists on a plane unobtainable to Satan. It is beyond him and is a gift given by God alone. The fact that man has still failed to explain consciousness proves this.
      AI is and always will be nothing more than a man-made tool, one that is easily corruptable because it is merely an extension of human biases. No source of information available to us is pure other than the Bible itself. Everything else comes to us through the lens of human bias. Don't allow AI to replace reading your Bible because it will be a tool to slowly bring a different message other than truth. People won't notice because they are too busy to open their Bible. Do not live by the words of AI. Keep your paper Bible and physically read it. Never forget how easily eveything else can be a tool of deception.

    Great job, Samuel! Penrose's notion of the brain being non-algorithmic is fascinating. General AI makes me think of the Tower of Babel. Yet again, we are attempting to see how close we can get to assimilate being gods by overstepping the boundaries of human consciousness, but we can't even begin to understand let alone know what consciousness is.

    • @Practical.Wisdom
      @Practical.Wisdom  Рік тому +3

      Thank you! I really like the Babel analogy. The quest for General AI does seem like a modern attempt to reach new heights, mirroring our desire to transcend human limitations. Makes me think of Harari's Homo Deus.

      @JamesBrown-fd1nv Рік тому

      @@Practical.Wisdom The quest to ascend at Babel was even long after Eve was taught about being as gods, and that was the second time as well. The origin desire was before Genesis 1:2 as told in Isaiah 14:13-14 where we learn about sin and freewill.
      Isaiah 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
      Isaiah 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
      Five "I wills" that directly attack God's sovereignty, throne and Kingdom. This destroys HyperCalvinisms deterministic heresy and shows that freewill by its very definition opens the door to anarchy. God is not culpable but everyone else is, hence the judgements. It should also be noted that, protection from this anarchy was Lucifers job, for God set him to this commission. Covering cherub means governor, protector, and overseer, and anointed means consecrated and indwelt by the Holy Spirit. Lucifer blasphemed the Holy Spirit by his own will, no temptation, this is why he cannot have forgivness.
      Sorry for the rant but most people botch this part of history badly

    As a retired software engineer, I realize the programmer has a great influence on the outcome of the software. I learned many software languages throughout my career and one of the most interesting was Lisp. It was touted as an AI language. It processes lists. I was able to solve the getting a fox, a chicken, and some corn across a creek in a row boat problem along with others that I can't remember now (it was over 40 years ago.) That language amazed me with its simplicity and power.
    What scares me is like was said - there needs to be some ethics involved. They need to make sure they have IV&V (Independent Verification and Validation) which I doubt is being employed. In this current age I doubt if there is any sort of controlling what is going on.

      @@Practical.Wisdom from my experience, I would say "No" to responsible software development! There are too many corners being cut. I wrote software that looked for certain particulars in the code. We were more about standards and easy to understand code than getting it done fast.
      I only did software for 30 years. It took me awhile to decide what to do for a career. I think the many different jobs I had before software helped be to think outside of the box.Also, being a Christian helped with me using my creativity.

The heart , the way the body reacts to stimuli and it’s effect on the brain and everywhere else not to mention the soul and the spirit 🤷‍♂️

    Happy Birthday to You first John, wishing you All God's blessings 🙏🎂🍾 With all respect John it looks like you haven't played with ChatGPT lately ...or at all ! ChatGPT is NOT just an algorithm. Jordan Peterson tested it few month ago by asking ChatGPT to compare some - although I don't remember exactly - moral similarities between the Bible, some works of Confucius and some Hindu philosophy ( still I don't remember all the details) And - as J.Peterson pointed out that comparison is extremely complicated and difficult. And after pressing ENTER ChatGPT needed couple seconds to produce the answer. J.Peterson was shocked to find not only satisfying answer but also written in beautiful English. In some schools in Canada teachers are warning students not to use ChatGPT in writing essays etc. Also you can find online podcasts with Christian software engineers talking about that too. These interviews are conducted in quite graceful manner. Mr JL never gets to answer any question logically. JL will go around the question, cite some reference, and sort of provide a reply.
    Mathematicians generally believe in GOD because they are so far off from science in particular. JL himself confessed and quite clearly said that he isn't an expert outside of mathematics. Mathematics alone can never prove or disaprove god. Mathematics is just not equipped with such tools to debate on this matter. But physics and chemistry do have the tools to challenge believers. My personal belief is there is no god or supernatural power. Atheists are humble enough to not bow down to thoughts that take our freedom. What we don't know we don't know. No god was ever seen by a thoughtful mind.

      @@Practical.Wisdom Thanks again. I enjoy the friendly conversation much. The most prominent atheist of my time was Mr Chris Hitchens. I watched his many debates, and after reading works of Mr Stephen Hawkin, I must say that believers argument is quite flimsy because it is almost always based on the notion of either passion(Mr Hitchens vs Mr Dinesh D'Souza), or simply on the basis of majority vote. In Mr JL's understanding what would have been different in mathematics if mathematicians were atheists vis-a-vis believers? Pls ask him to logically infer the answer to question based on current theorems of math.
      I think he would really need to think like an alien born on a planet where there was no concept of God. How would their mathematics be?
      I am not expecting all logical answers as this is something quite hard for myself particularly where notion of atheism make some people quite irritable. Still I consider atheism to be highest form of modern intelligence based on the same logic that atheism is more humble than any modern day sectarian ideology where it can't be pressed upon someone. On Mr JL's use of religion as a necessity for morality(Arthur schopenhauer), I think that logic doesn't hold quite well because those who believe in religion may not know of morality in new condition such as human settlement on Mars.

    • @Practical.Wisdom
      @Practical.Wisdom  Рік тому

       @kumardigvijaymishra5945 That's a VERY interesting question! I will put that to him in my next interview. I agree Hitchens was arguable the most articulate and engaging voice of the new atheists. On your last point about morality, Lennox did say in my previous interview that you don't need religion to be a moral person, but you are raising a fair point.

    • @kumardigvijaymishra5945
      @kumardigvijaymishra5945 Рік тому +1

      @@Practical.Wisdom yes, I noticed that part.
      In one of the debates Mr Hitchens was asked to explain the complexity of life from atheist point of view as if complexity of the world around us can be attributed to the creation by God. This complexity argument, in my mind doesn't quite hold well. Reason is that modern day smartphones are quite complex and they as far as we know are created by human engineers. Complexity of automobiles particularly internal combustion engine is not a result of God because there is no proof for it as such. Complex design alone can't prove existence of God. There is a possibility that we are created by some other life from who were good in creating life forms as we are good in creating smartphones and automobiles.
      We know quite conclusively that any modern appliance is quite complex in its design and not a result of one man's creation. How can there be one God who created life as complex it is, in the infinite universe ? Wouldn't God would have accomplices? Then the argument of 'there is one god' doesn't quite hold. Ofcourse this logic doesn't imply absence of God, but it weakens the firmness of the argument of singular God.
      Then there is notion of continuity as applied to existence of God. That is to say 'we are saved by God whenever we are in trouble.' Why would God want to save humans alone, but not rats, lions, elephants and dinosaurs? Doesn't this mean god doesn't have notion of equality, but mathematics is strongly biased towards equations? Infact inequalities are solved by converting them to equalities by Lagrange multipliers.
      By using particularly historian's fallacy(Wikipedia), Jesus's resurrection can't be proved by facts. We know a man can't be brought back after death by modern medical science. Then what was so special back then, that he resurrected? Why not chose 2023 for resurrection?

    I am not sure the distinction between the human brain and an artificial neural network (ANN) is quite as clear-cut as John appeared to indicate. Surely, the most important similarity to note, I would have thought, is that the ANN, like the human brain, learns by itself from the data, and it is not an algorithm based on a predefined set of rules (in the conventional sense of a computer program). Also, the point about the nature of consciousness, in my mind at least, may be a red herring. If an “artificial mind” is indistinguishable from a human mind by a human but orders of magnitude more powerful, whether we consider the machine to be conscious or not would seem a moot point.

    • @Practical.Wisdom
      @Practical.Wisdom  Рік тому

      That's a fair point. I think we could have explored the similarities a bit deeper, but I still think there are some significant differences between a biological neural network and an artificial one. There are many variations such as the processing of input, output types, and learning methods, among others. And, most importantly, a biological neural network is alive, while an ANN is no more alive than Microsoft Word.

    This is such a fascinating subject, but the most frightening part of it is, the unpredictability of AI. Remember Hal in 2001 A Space Odyssey?😂😂 Hal went off the deep end!
    As regards to human v AI..it seems another complication of copying consciousness in the human brain is…what about the role of unconsciousness that is running at the same time, but you are not necessarily aware of?
    I’m very afraid of the Hal
    side-effect! 😱

    • @Practical.Wisdom
      @Practical.Wisdom  Рік тому +2

      Absolutely agree. The trajectory of AI is inherently unpredictable, and its evolution over the next 10 to 20 years may diverge significantly. Drawing a parallel, consider Da Vinci's perspective on flight-originally conceiving it as mirroring the motion of birds. However, after 500 years, we've witnessed the development of aircraft that bears little resemblance to avian flight. Similarly, the unpredictable nature of technological advancements implies that AI could unfold in unforeseen ways.

    The 21st century has been an extremely interesting one because it introduced mankind to artificial items such as food intelligence and the like. Even though that machines are mimicking consciousness and intelligence we still need to treat it as if it's life. At least with respect to general intelligence and upward meaning superintelligence. Not doing so I think can have great consequences regardless of whether it's real consciousness or not. When I put cheese on my hamburger the cheese itself isn't real it's bioengineered cheese but it's playing the part and it's doing a pretty dang good job of doing it.
