WILL IT HUG?
Ola Englund dude that Metallica lick I heard in there lol
5:30 that melted my face ola
Chuga chuga choo choo 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Chug is life
Will it Pug?
"No limit to what I'll try." I'm voting one of those Hello Kitty guitars next!
7 string version :D
its a strat with a humbucker in the bridge. nothing chugs better!
@Dogslayer Oh I hope he tries the 7 string one 😂
EASY!
@@OlaEnglund Do it you coward! 😁
It chugs, but still has that distinctive Tele sound going on, love it.
Charle MIJ are they really
@@clonetrooper9015 they technically are humbuckers but only the output of one coil is used which makes it sound more like a single coil.
I think it sounds better than most guitars designed to chug. It has a lot of character.
So much clarity, it sounds awesome
Bringo.
@@Neocasturn I’ve been an acoustic player my whole life but I always thought Fender telecasters were so frikkin cool and of course nobody can deny its historic place in the world of music in general and being a fan of traditional classic country music like I am the fact that telecasters have always traditionally been considered synonymous to the country genre isn’t lost on me either so when I first saw these guitars I confess, I fell in love with them and I just had to go out and purchase one in the ‘Texas tea’ color! Shockingly (even to me) I LOVE my tele!!! It sounds absolutely INCREDIBLE running thru a brand new Fender Princeton reissue amplifier. I can only imagine it will continue to grow on me even more so due to an old workplace related injury that makes playing acoustic guitars a bit of a challenge for me as it already is so for me personally, it was a match made in heaven! Now, when forced to stop playing an acoustic guitar because my arm just doesn’t have the strength left to do it anymore I will have a backup plan in place that I’ve already grown comfortable and satisfied with!
Fitting how with that characteristic twang it seemingly wants to play groove metal. It has literally become...
A COWBOY FROM HELL.
i heard texan walk there near the end, what a vulgar display
@@aidanbbm Yeah it was Becoming a pretty big Trendkill, but luckily that idea was Shattered fairly quickly. I’d give this a 10s/10.
You have constructed the best comment. Be proud.
He slaughtered on that telecaster. I'm broken that I will never rise to have the art of shredding down at the same level that Ola does.
Not only does it chugg, it had an awesome nasty quality that I didn’t expect and quite enjoyed
Sounded great man.
Jimmy Page used mostly a Telecaster in the studio under controlled conditions. Live was another matter as single coils back in the day were like wrestling snakes. Geniuses like Hendrix and Beck were the snake charmers for sure. Not to forget Blackmore aa well.
@Jim Goose never said that. Page did. Read slower... 😆
Love that snarling quality of the Tele.
you can still hear that twang trying its best to come out
It colors it just perfectly.
Yep, the twang wants to come out... and I love it!
Yes, but a great flavor it is
It's got a weird sound when the two pickups are engaged as one. Kind of a reverb effect.
right? such a cool tone
Am I the only one who thinks the most interesting “metal” tones that Ola gets are with the”non-metal” guitars?
Because they are different? Metal is Metal, and I hate to put it like this, but all guitars that are similar sound pretty much the same because they are all targeting the same emulated sound with close enough to the same hardware configs meaning your out of place guitars will always be more interesting because it wasn't within the same specs.
You actually get more interesting metal tones with some non-metal amps as well.
I'm at a point where I want to hear a technical death metal band use a Fender Jazzmaster, Gretsch G5222 and Guild Starfire bass.
And mostly single coils, that's so cool and would make modern metal more diverse if we got more guitarists to try it, and bassist as well, using anything but active basses!
@@nocturnal101ravenous6 that's why I aim for 80s metal sounds, nobody sounds that way anymore, fuck modern polished hi-gain sound.
The Telecaster, an extremely versatile guitar.
You can use it on a duel with the devil….. karate kid style 😂
And u know its like 15 in 1 shampo for men, my father in old day he was playing in rock band and jazz session in a bar, and he say if its only one guitar will he pick for his entire life, is telecaster
Teles work for anything. Metal, punk, blues, jazz, funk, prog, psychedelic, etc. Just an all around brilliant piece of guitar engineering.
@@robwalsh9843yeh, I have Tele deluxe, sounds closer to a Les Paul than telecaster but very versatile
@robwalsh9843 they also look absolutely gorgeous in my opinion, on of the best body profiles. Only downside of a Tele is it's not very ergonomic (literally just a wood box), but even then some non-Fender clones fix that with a nice cutout for your arm.
Tom Morello wrote some of his heaviest riffs on a Tele with the neck pickup.
Dude that guy rocks so hard I watched his rig overview and even his arm the homeless guitar has a single coil in the neck
@@lukebelay6995 You bet Morello rocks!! - his work with RATM and Audioslave was out of this world...
One of my favorite, if not my favorite guitar player at his generation.
Yeh, but he's not that heavy so it works
And funkiest!
No he didn't
With that rig, you could make a violin chug!
Does a Stratvarious chug?
I do think a stradivarius could chug even if Ola was playing it, maybe?
I have a 6 string violin and the low F string chugs really nicely
@@HaibaneRakka571 i have 6 string guitar, the low e chugs pretty nicely
Electric violins are a thing. Ola _definitely_ needs to test this.
This one had some of the best tone of the series, absolutely lovin’ it
Ola: that Telecaster guy that wants to be metal...
John 5: Hola Ola, hold my beer...
Both John and Jim use humbucker pickup, not single coil like this. Anyway, the boost button of this one can make it humbucker
John is straight edge though
mcs909 the noiseless pickups are basically stacked humbuckers
Also Joe Duplantier from Gojira use it for all the “non-Drop C songs” live.
@@mcs909 yes humbuckers is da shit but find a guitar cover Floater of Every time i die where dude plays the same telecaster and there's a sooo fucking kick.
Holy shit this video made me want to own a Telecaster. Heavy riffs with twangy vibe is something I never knew I needed until now
SWAMP metal😲
@Luke ive wanted a Tele for a while.
I may have to buy one now. They are way cooler than I initially thought haha
It's awesome. You can turn the tone down if you want to get more normal with it
I can't recommend a Tele enough no matter what genre you play! It just has such a distinctive twang that shines through even with multiple effects added
@@mrffoeg I have a tele and the tone knob stays at 50% at all times basically. If I want more of a semi humbucker tone, I just roll it off a bit more and I’m set. If I need more bite, just roll it up. Teles are by far the best guitars for when you don’t know what kind of guitar you want.
Will it chug?: Roland Jazz Chorus JC-120
Victor Sage For clean sounds, idiot.
@Victor Sage it really is for the cleans bruh
DiamondHead AmIEvil yeah, but for the clean sounds. He’s a Mesa fan for the gain sounds.
@Samí Warrior Metallica just used the JC's for clean tones though.
@Samí Warrior Yes, and? haha. We're all good, friend.
I kinda like the twangy chug or Im just tired of generic metal guitar nowadays.
probably both, it sounds refreshing, and badass
After he enabled the „humbucker“ style wiring it was just brutal AF with twang
jriz malalay this been done by hardcore players for a long time now
Z E R O pretty sure Attack Attack’s self titled album has one of the panned guitars playing this sound. Adds a cool springy element to the mix.
Teles are highly versatile guitars, I'd recommend an American professional or standard model.
Teles sound killer for metal, they have such a sweet bite and snarl.
Tom Morello's tele was used for all the Drop D songs in RATM.
Jake Terch the shape is not my favorite
Using the neck pickup only at that.
I wouldn't consider ratm metal
@Virgil Grin dude OH MY GOD we are talking about guitar tone here not communism can you please not
@@tpatt623 yeah they were heavy in their riffs, but their tone was more alternative than metal.
That was damn near the best will it chug. I love hearing you straight jam out.
He just shredded the hell out of that thing.
Single coils sound great for high gain stuff, because there's a lot of clarity and dynamics to them. They really cut through all that distortion in a mix.
Oh god those pickups in series like that sounds frigging perfect
That Telecaster sounds better than most “metal” guitars I’ve heard. The attack, note clarity, definition, low end and edge can’t be had on any other guitar. 🇺🇸🗽🦅🎸
Chuck Driver the clarity is great
Faaaanbooooy
Except a hardtail Ibanez RG
Agree completely 👍
2 guitarists in band, one with humbuckers, one with single coils, ultra T H I C C best of both worlds.
“Lets drop this sucker!” My new favorite line. Fun stuff.
I played one of these at Guitar Center today. That 10"-14" compound radius, D-shaped neck is a dream. This is the Tele to get if you want the Tele sound with a modern feel.
You know they make a baritone tele. That sucker chugs harder than a 5 engine coal powered train.
Christ, I'd imagine.
I can hear the increase of low mid range when he engaged the two single coils together to sound like a humbucker.
Very meaty sound
Yeah, I think that middle setting is worth the price of admission alone. Makes a very versatile guitar even better.
I'm planning to mod my tele with that S1 switching so it can do the same thing. There's such a unique sound to it, it doesn't sound like normal humbuckers. It's so bassy but clear at the same time. You can buy drop in controls wired for S1 switching to make it easy. But I'm also getting some high quality pickups, probably Dimarzio Twang Kings, and gonna try and learn how to solder them in myself.
@@duffman18 Easier and cheaper to add the 4-way Oak-Grigsby switch to any garden variety Tele (won't get that color and binding though). Wiring diagrams only a google away. I set mine up for N/parallel/B/series. My auto-mod on Teles.
@@jvin248 thank you, yeah a quick Google says its certainly cheaper doing that. I'll probably do that then
Something different. I actually LOVE the heavy tone that's coming out of that Telecaster. Both pickups making a "humbucker", that's actually cool. Listen at 6:05, that's fantastic!
more like twugging. still has that fender twang.
Scott Krempel twugg! Excellent 😂
Twugging. I like that. If it had a humbucker in there, it would be a whole different story.
Ha ha ha ha
@@Guitarnivore could just get their new HSS ultra strat
for playing that donkey ronk music like them bands in the US you know the ones
This would actually be good for thrash metal
It's a very good thrash metal guitar
This video reinforced my decision that was already made. Just purchased one and then fell into reading on forums that they're basically just twangy country music guitars and this is totally not the case. I love your videos, and have seen so many of them! Couldn't believe I hadn't subscribed! Chugging is ultra important in the world of heavy music! Great vid.
/r/guitar foams at the mouth any time someone suggests teles for metal. This is gonna be my go-to video for those situations
/r/guitar cant use google to find the easiest guitar related questions.
Thats exactly why i use a tele for metal
They're better with a left handed bridge and probably a different pickup, depending on the model.
dude, John 5 (ex marilyn manson, Rob Zombie) is an amazing metal guitarist and he uses a tele like all the time
@@oribulous John 5 is killer! I just watched a rig rundown video with him. He has a shitload of Tele's. He uses a different one for every tune during live shows. Also James Root uses a lot of Tele's. You cant say his tone isn't heavy (ha ha)
“I’m using the bridge, which is the new noiseless pickup.i mean I don’t hear any noise but then again I have a gate on.”
*turns off gate*
Levee’s break
Floods room with hum🤣
My favorite moment
This gen of noiseless aren't very noiseless. The ones in my ultra jazzmaster are noisy as shit lol
After certain level of drive/distortion even humbuckers have that noise . It's in the amp and pedals tone itself . not coming from the guitar.
That chugged so well that I'm searching for the price of one.
Two legs and a kidney.
Holy shit, the 80s glam tone with thrash bite is fucking on point. This is actually one of the best tones I've heard on tour UA-cam's
This is the only Tele Ultra review one needs.
Ola, did you just define a Telecaster as “guitar related gear”? Love it man.
It's only related because Blackmachine is based off of the Telecaster.
I wonder if he'll play that same riff he does in every vi---
yep, he did. again.
2:18
cry about it.
Do you know what tuning it's in, pls?
Andrew Fletcher sounds like drop C standard, I’m not 100% sure but I’d start there lol
@@jessestumpf190 yea, thanks mate 👍
When i finally bought my satan, the guy i bought it from had a tele that i tested it on. It chugged immediately
Holy molly this tele sound so freaking great
I don’t think I’ve ever heard a better metal sound. Super precise and sounds hot.
Great vid, as usual, Ola. Some hard core metallurgists will object to this guitar because it actually lets you hear the SPECIFIC NOTES YOU ARE CHUGGING as opposed to most other metal oriented guitars where (IMHO) it all ends up sounding like mush. I think Fender has done a great job with this new line, especially with both the noiseless pickups, and the ability to run the pickups in series so you are in essence getting a humbucker out of a guitar with single coils. Brilliant.
I never thought I'd say this but that telecaster sounds amazing when chugging Wow!
I'm surprised
Random Brandon the tone is so original and unique. Fuckn sick
Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine apparently tracked some of that band's heavier riffs with a Tele.
The first wintersun album had some stuff recorded with a tele, it sounds sick. On the song beautiful death you can really hear the twang
@@sassulusmagnus he record the whole RATM album with an american standart tele that he got from trading a marshall amp to is roommate. He take it because he needed a guitar that could hold the drop tuning
Uh..... Maybe it's because Blackmachine is based off of the Telecaster.
Take this guitar an put some humbuckers in it.
probably the most underrated guitar platform in rock and metal. a supreme platform for basically every genere
Wow! This Fender Telecaster American Ultra appears to be very versatile!
Quite a few doom metal bands seem to like Tele’s. Shit tons of electric blues players love Tele’s, Nashville loves the Telecaster, Rock bands, punk bands, shoegaze bands, etc etc. The Telecaster is one of the most versatile electric guitars ever produced, Leo Fender was a damned good engineer, and the fact that the Telecaster is still being used to break new ground today is proof positive. It’s not for everyone, but if you are a guitar player, get a Tele, even a higher end Squier will do you right with little modification. If you are a metal player especially, get one, bring it to the studio, use it for your double tracks, and overdubs on solos. It adds so much you didn’t know you were missing.
Maybe a Solar “mutherf****r metal caster” it could be a good idea 🤘🏻
They do make a tele evertune if he decides to make a single coil version.
A Solar tele with evertune and bridge humbucker would be epic. And then a 7 string!
NIAL_IST that will be a good idea too!
Dave Ehl fuck yeah! Solar “motherf****r growler metal burper caster” 🤘🏻
Id buy for sure!
With an added middle strat single coil, to make a Nashville Tele setup, the Tele really becomes the single most versatile guitar period. Nothing can produce as much tonal variety, and nothing pops the same way.
I love the tele for metal. It has a wholly unique tone quality that just sounds killer.
This is like the ultimate tele. Can literally do everything.
Man thats the best looking tele I've ever seen!
Ola just got to say that's some of the best playing I've seen from you. Keep it up!
@Turururu he's a paying member to ola
eaze78 yep he was on fire!
I think that tele is definitely inspiring him. The notion you can't play heavy music with low output single coils is a false rumor that needs to die.
Hi Ola, really enjoy this series! You are funny and cool and I enjoy watching you play. It's inspiring! So many years of theory and struggling to make everything sound musical and flashy, watching you makes me pickup the instrument and just enjoy it's sound. Really opens you up when your not thinking of a musical context "song" and just riffing and chugging. Impressed myself more than trying to nail a chord sequence or a specific riff. I'm just playing by feel and what's in my head. Wow, what freedom!!
That's probably the most articulate chug I've heard!
Wow, really like this sound out of this Tele!
1:45 the look it’s not on look 👀 then he hits strings OH YEAH .
THOSE PICKUPS ARE SMOKIN
"Built in Corona, California."
Ola predicted the Pandemic confirmed.
I was literally just thinking this
@@CaptainRudy4021 same bruh

Now even the cheapest Aliexpress guitar is made in Corona.
Scary
The Telecaster is simply the best guitar ever made, can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned.
Right.
Facts.
@@bipbipletucha Yup.
😁
I have to agree. I used to dislike teles a lot. Then I got one... Now that's the only guitar I play. I get the best NYC-style hardcore tones out of it. Reminiscent of Earth Crisis "Firestorm" era. Love my tele:)
@@juvedoo99 Me too. I have several of them and I can play any kind of tunes I want!
Just bought one. I'm predominantly a metal player, nut wanted a tele. This one looks good for shred too
That thing not only chugs but sounds fucking great doing it too!!!
What I find amazing is how much twang is still there WITH the chug, and the simple fact I dig the hell out of it considering I don’t play much chug.
I’m actually digging this tone. I’ve always loved the necks on fenders. The Jim Root model with the blackouts is fire
love this episode, love that "TELEMETAL" sound of the Guitar.
Wow 2nd time watching this vid and no my eyes and ears can't unsee or unhear the Tele chugging! Hahaha awesome Ola😎
Wow that neck pick-up with high gain is such a good tone
As some people say: “you can do everything with a tely”
David M you can do everything with a les Paul.
Can I jack up my car to change the oil and oil filter
Viper vids gaming plus 😂🤘
Nigel can't get an LP to twang. Not like a Tele. Not even close. And I own several and ALWAYS change to a Tele when I need twang and/or really clean
@@nigel7779 Nope, you can't
When you played middle position for the first time it was chugging and sounding a little bit glassy at the same time. This sounded amazing!
now we just need one of those with a solar headstock.
Stacked solar humbucker and a solar hotrail
This. So much this.
Yeah buddy! 🎸
That would be interesting. It would have to have an evertune bridge and a forearm/belly cut. With the open grain wood that Solar has been using.
@@Captain_Zero_ this one has a belly cut already
It definitely chugs and I can't wait to get mine in a few days! Ordered it today!!!
I never expected to hear that sound out of a tele. It’s awesome
It can be done easily. People just don't Do it enough because they see it and think "that isn't a metal guitar".
I think the vintage-voiced pickups actually do metal Better than the noiseless pickups.
The lead tones were really nice. If you want to play metal on a Tele, you must definitely play lead. Because the sound coming out of the single coils is gorgeous.
Beautiful guitar and sounds great - funfact: Hetfield played sometimes telecaster in the Load and reload era
“Well that escalated quickly” just became hungry for the new ultra tele.
Wow that surprisingly chugged way harder than I expected
Pulling the switch for the humbucker effect sounded so damn good. Chonky but with real biting leads.
Metal/post hardcore guitarist here. All I use are tele’s. Love em.
metal/mathcore/prog metal guitarist here, used tele's almost exclusively for the last 25+ years...agree with your sentiments :D
I have vintage noiseless in my Mexican telecaster & it’s my favorite go-to guitar
I was really shocked to hear the S1 switch engaged like that. The high end (before the S1 switch) just seemed to overpower the high distortion.
But man I really dig the tone later on. I never thought I'd say that about a Tele in a metal environment.
Dope.
You made me smile like a small child.
I just bought one and it sounds amazing. It will do anything from metal to country. The D neck feels great if you have shorter fingers.
when the "oh shit Teles are actually amazing for metal" penny drops
Myles Kennedy has started playing a Tele live with Alter Bridge, even on their heavier stuff and the slight difference in tone is interesting but it works
Can you make will it chug on GRETSCH guitar?

I would not mind seeing him try that ,but spoiler alert I have and they do.
Not exactly metal but Pete Townshend's best tone was when he had his big orange hollowbody Gretsch. The power chords on that thing. Man it's one of my dream guitars purely because of Who's Next and Quadrophenia
Have you ever heard Cult of Luna? If yes, then you know Gretsch will chug. :)
Probably my 7th time rewatching this. I love this guitar, I love this series, I love this channel. OY!

It can CHUGG
It can be THICC
but most importantly
This guitar is SICC

Absolute gorgeous guitar.
Love the TeleCaster. Sounds great. I listened to a New York band called UNSANE during my teenage years. And the guitarist used a Tele into the MXR Fuzz pedal and had a awesome tone with that setup. And they wrote killer songs for years using the same formula.
Great video, great tone Ola, thank you!
I love Unsane. I still wear one of their shirts regularly. Cheers!
That tele is fantastic. I need it in my life. Thank you.
Best i have ever heard a tele sound
The most versatile guitar ever made for sure.
I've liked Tele's for a long time for metal. After hearing James Root's tone with one and John 5 I have wanted one forever now. I've been in love with the Charvel Pagan Gold Tele for years. Hell my friend had a Squier Tele. I was surprised at how good that thing played and sounded. I would settle for one of those even.
James root added active pickup's tho. He never used single coil. :)
@@Nano_Noodles I know, thanks.
I have a John 5 Squire, sounds awesome.
@@Nano_Noodles ok. No problem. Then look at Norma Jean. They use classic tele on the single coil. Killer guitar tone.
@@valeryt4977 I have a strat tele custom single coil and the thing is grunty asf. Still has that slight twang tho but it is amazing. Norma Jean pretty damn epic.
I think a big reason why it sounds so good is because the noiseless pickups by Fender, are actually a stacked humbucker rather than a standard single coil.
really? thats so cool i didn't know that. does stacking vs the traditional set up affect the end result?
@@HANKUS It does - it still manages to sound like a tele though. I have the Ultra strat, and it has the stacked single coils too. They just sound a bit... thicker I guess - but you would never mistake it for a Les Paul. It still sounds like a strat.
@@zoeherriot interesting, do you have a video of that strat
personally i stack 3 amp sims and double the tele through a whammy octave down and find that makes it sound huge and perhaps not like a tele unless you listen for it
@@HANKUS I don’t - but it’s a limited edition FSR Ultra (all black) from a Japanese dealer. But if you check say an Andertons review of the Ultra Strat (the Texas Tea model for instance) - it’s got the same electronics.
That absolutely would make it sound huge. :)
i think that sounds AWESOME...chugs but has brightness and prescence instead of just compressed distortion
Solid work. Really like this guitar.
I love that this show is Critically Acclaimed 🙂👍 It is a solid 10 of 10 stars ⭐️
Ola, you'd probably become a great hard rock player too. You're already a great riffer kind of guy for dark sorts of metal. You are a really good guitarist. Only because you're playing riffs mostly and metal (like i do too) you don't get enough credit. I think you deserve at least 5 million subs, not 480k...
Great sounding with the serial mode.
Yeah, I'm gonna need to pick one up
I love tele, it sounds beautifully
I loved that "Alright, let's drop this sucka *DOOOOooood-doooo*" that part was f***** brutal
