- This is a documentary of Kensington, Philadelphia at night. Kensington is known as one of the poorest area's in the United States. Homelessness is a huge issue, and from the looks of it it's getting worse. Crime is over 124% of the national average, and poverty affects upwards of 65% of it's residents. The median income is 24% less than the national average, and unemployment is at a staggering 9.3%. Drug use is unfortunately quite rampant here, even though many efforts are in place to help. Illegal drug use is never condoned, please seek help for you or a loved one if you are going through issues. This video is designed to help people understand the complexity of issues here and for a hope of better understanding a path for fixing these problems mentioned. This video is for educational and documentary purposes.
Many of these people are addicted, poor and homeless. That does not excuse the city from picking up trash and
sweeping the streets. People in homes in neighborhoods get this service, and Kensington needs it big time.
The city comes by on a daily and cleans up.

I went with a Christian mission in February 2023 to help feed and cloth the homes. Spent a month cooking hot food meal. I sat and talked to about 100 homeless. It's sad ,most got hooked on drugs. Can't find work and commit shoplifting, just so the police bring them to jail. In jail they got a warm bed and food they told me. What a way to survive. The mission tries to get them medical,housing and jobs... but only 23 out of 100 go straight. The other 77 return back...
Yes, and I think that's a high figure for recovery.
It's a complex issue. Can't rent without a job and can't live without one.
I can't imagine being in that situation.

I love the sound of the EL. Just dangerous to get on it anymore. BTW they're gentrifying the heck out of Kensington all the way up to York now. Oh a huge no-no. Never confuse Kensington with Fishtown. 😊😊😊😊
