I love London. I'm not from there, but my partner is. He started life in poverty there in the South West, in a Wandsworth slum. He later lived with his brothers in a childrens home further SW in Roehampton, Surrey. But he still is drawn to London, because he used to run around the city with his brothers, bus surfing (hopping on and off the red buses when they had poles at the back and bus conductors). But they weren't really naughty! Lol! He has many fond memories of exploring London as kids. We enjoy our visits there.
🏙️ ~ Going down the binge watching rabbit hole 🕳️ ... It's wild to see your Vancouver apartment in all its splendor, then packed up to move across the pond - now having arrived in London; like magic 🪄 - 😉
Love it! I’ll be sure to capture the new place soon, so you can see where everything ended up. My view isn’t the same (and the thing I miss the most) but I have a wonderful new spot 🥰✨
@@the.ashfiles 🇬🇧 ~ Yes, very much looking forward to seeing how you've set up your new home / apartment; when the time is right for you! 😉 --- And, absolutely - your Vancouver apartment was fabulous re the view & layout!!! 🥰
Congrats on moving to London! I’m from the north but I’ve lived in London for 12 years now, and there’s something so refreshing about seeing it through the eyes of someone who has just moved here. I also have a lot of international friends, so I know how tough it can be to move here. I hope you’re having a good time so far. I love this city so much, but it can be austere and tiring, especially in the winter months. My top tip is to make lots of plans, so you always have things to look forward to. I love art, museums, cinema, theatre and food, so my plans are generally based around those! There is so much interesting stuff to see in London, and for really cheap too. Some random recommendations: 1. The Hayward Gallery at the Southbank Centre always has great exhibitions- and there’s a really cute rooftop garden bar with amazing views across the Thames! 2. The National Theatre sells £10 tickets online every Friday as part of their Friday Rush- it’s the cheapest way to see stuff there. 3. The Prince Charles cinema in Leicester Square is a London institution, they show loads of classic and cult films and are always showing classic romcoms (I’m a big romcom fan too). 4. For some more unusual theatre and performance, check out Battersea Arts Centre (it’s also in a beautiful old Victorian town hall). 5. It’s often hard to find a nice place for a drink in Central London, but Lowlander bar near Covent Garden is brilliant- Belgian style bar with great beer and table service. 6. If you’re around Vauxhall again, definitely check out Italo deli for lunch, they do the best toasted sandwiches in London. 7. Koya in Soho has amazing udon, and Okan at Southbank and Brixton has delicious Japanese crepes (okanomiyaki). 8. Scooter Cafe near Waterloo is a super cute and chill cafe bar, and has free jazz on Sundays. 7. The film Rye Lane is a great (and goofy) London rom com from last year :) 8. Get tickets for the stage version of My Neighbour Totoro when it goes to the West End next year because it is one of the best plays you will EVER see!!!
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for taking the time to send me this great list, adding to my ever growing list I’ve made. I really appreciate it, thank you for being here ✨🙏🏻
🇬🇧 @traybake4972 ~ Just this mid-December morning I found "The Ash Files" and have been a stowaway on this journey from Vancouver, to Los Angeles with a stopover in Paris - with London being the ultimate destination! Love how you took the time & effort to so thoughtfully list all these unique & what seems like quite non-touristy destinations to explore! Happy Holidays 🎄❤️🎄❤️🎄 from Southern California 🏖️ ... 🥰
So lovely! Fellow mid-30s here (originally from across the Atlantic, now in Europe) figuring out this next chapter and so happy to come across your corner of the internet. Cheers!
I found you on TikTok a few days ago. In my 30’s as well, thinking about moving to London and you came across to inspire me 🥰 Love your videos. I find them beautiful, creative and hopeful! Blessing on your new chapter! ✨🙏
So your Tik Tok reached Kazakhstan!! As a romcom lover I absolutely adore your videos! Especially little words of affirmation on the walls you capture 🥺 Good luck on your new chapter 🫂 I look forward to your new videos ❤
🎥 ~ I think I'm going to pull out my two "Bridget Jones" movies 🍿 from my DVD library for this evening's viewing pleasure (still need to add the 3rd to my collection) - 😉
@the.ashfiles 🎥 ~ Feel inspired & nostalgic to spend some time in The Bridget Jones Universe 🌍 (especially with the Christmas 🎄 party scenes, ugly Christmas sweaters aka "jumpers" + the curried buffet offerings 😂) after being transported to London with you! I need to be on the hunt for the 3rd movie to add to my DVD library + see the new one in the theater after its release! 🇬🇧 ~ Thank you again for sharing your Vancouver to London journey ... 🥰
