This is DDR at its prime. The early 2000’s when people literally put their hearts in souls into dancing. Beautiful good memories. I remember when I was 10 years old in 2002 at Golflad Sunsplash in California and seeing this gifted buff black guy free style DDR ‘ing and doing one handed hand stands and break dance moves while playing. I was so mesmerized, Ill never forget those good times watching and playing
Probably the best times in my teenage years were watching others compete and freestyle to DDR in Jersey boardwalks and malls. I'll be 35 this week and this video got me so pumped up that I purchased a game and mat for the 360 last night (lol!). Forever DDRing.
Same, except 34 in the Fall and I just unearthed my PS2 and mats while cleaning up around the house. I only had MAX2 before, but I went ahead and got MAX, as well as both of the EXTREMEs and Supernovas. Gotta get my ass back into shape, and what better way to do it?
Been DDRing since these games came out, have two mats and all the PS2 DDR games. I am 38 and I still remember when I used to go to the arcade to watch people dance to Paranoia and 300. Best times ever.
@@ida4587 Hahaha YES! Paranoia for sure. I was pretty damn good but not invisible arrows good lmfao! My friends and I would listen to DDR soundtracks on the way to the competitions. Total geeks, best memories.
@@moonlitmew lol to this day I can't pass Paranoia, leave that to the experts. Haha I still listen to DDR songs sometimes, right now listening to Heaven.
I was part of the tail end of this era. I loved this game with such a passion, I had Supernova 2 on my home Playstation and I used to play this every day after school and then go to the arcade when I thought I had a song down enough to show off. It wasn't long after until the malls in my area all shut down their arcades due to stupid vandals, but I had a truly wonderful time while it lasted. I hope these machines make a comeback.
I remember my DDR days. I used to kill at that game. Mostly DDR Extreme though. I recently tried playing it again but I don't know if I'm out of shape or maybe I'm just older.
Those 2000's and before, when they were serious about competing in the underground video game world and we had great titles like DDR. I remember those competitions, there were masters of those arcades! good times.
I remember went with my friend to the city center cause there was a DDR platform, we used to get high, buy some pizza and dance to this. Sometimes kids get close to see us dance and we invite them to play it. They remove it from the place bc of corona virus 😢 great memories for sure 💕
I remember doing my own freestyles and since back then a lot of people did have the game and floor of pad it didn't give you the ability to freestyle the way you wanted to so me and my friend spent $30 dollars Saturday and Sunday when we were off school just to learn freestyle on heavy and practice with some of our states best players we learned so much. DDR definitely needs to win a award of some kind for best game to play with friends and family :)
still playing on the same DDR Extreme 2 machine since 12 years now I cant get rid of the game!... I miss the Time There was some tournaments... :( I remember winning the 4 tournaments I went 🙄🐒 Still, playing with my Friends is Good too! Only 1$ for 3 songs and the machine is still in (almost) perfect condition hehe
That's awesome man. DDR Extreme 2 was my favorite version. I guess it never game out for Xbox 360 because I couldn't find it last night. I ended up purchasing Universe 2 which I've never played. Listened the soundtrack and it seems bomb. We'll see! I get it tomorrow .
Saw a recent documentary of ddr comp in Japan. They keep holding on the the bar dancing like having seizures. Why isn't the level of that these guys are in the video. That's amazing this freestyle
I first played in 2000 and then saw a report on the game. It recommended to NOT relay on the bar, that was before we had absolutely insane step charts. I still play without the bar but completely understand why players who only go for the highest scores on the toughest songs rely on it. Most freestyle plays you see on this video are at Standard Mode, easier to remember the steps and a bit of time to add other moves. In the end, I wish the game’s switch to « full bar play mode » wasn’t seen as the usual way people play.
Ya all excellent freestyle S Class God like 👍🏿 bro 😎 we should have more of all kind of Dance Dance Revolution to this generation rhythm 🥁 game going you know
+Arianna Turtles I wish there were more than one... I don't wanna fight for him with U. Anyone who loves him is a friend of mine. xD Although, if I really do see him one day, I'll jump on him and hug him and kiss him. 😍
Lol guy #3 was wearing "the attire" bahaha whenever you saw an Asian dude walk into the arcade wearing those pants you knew they were about to tear up some DDR lol. So many of them in Torrance used to dress like that and play DDR. Super wide-leg pants/jeans and baggy tops hahaha every time I saw them I'd be like awwwww shittttt and they never left me disappointed 😂😂 Fun times!

PG-13 Otaku where is this arcade at
@@pg-13otaku4 if you do, will you be uploading videos. I would love to see it.
It's 2019. I'm freestyling for the crowd as we speak.
Too bad that machine broke.
now THIS is something worthy of being called E-sports
this should be an Olympic event.
Antonio Marquez possibly. But there are local, national, and international tournaments that take place for many rhythm games, including DDR and PIU.
But then mostly Asians would win
nerds would eventually be beaten out by actual dancers that would compete for the medals
@@casperd2100 hey man respect the nerds, they are secretly pro dancers too
Step further. They should have gambling on these events. Or competition to the death.
i hope this kind of freestyle makes a comeback
You might want to check out the Pump it Up community
I like the first one the most. Reasons: Pure style, no legs over bars, flipping, jumping off the machine. It was just pure, well crafted choreography.
This is how they scout Ginyu Force members.
lol

2018 and I am still doing it up on DDR. 🤘💪
same here in 2021
Keeping it going in 2023 ✌
Same in 2024👍
Wow 2023... Kevin Kim you are still the goat
Freestyling started losing steam when MAX 300 was introduced. People would start mastering insane charts instead of choreographing creative routines.
They have entered “The Zone” to the EXTREME awesome
Just ordered a mat for my old PS1 and I'm currently playing DDR during the quarantine!
This is the most 2000's thing i have ever seen
I miss dancing to fall out boy on my ddr mat in my old childhood home. Those were happier times...
kevin kim - dam dariram. definitely the legendary routine without extreme move. 👍
