      I think it's all what the body is used to at a time. If the body is used to not getting a lot of water, it will adjust to that and vice versa. Just my experience tho :)

      Then obviously eat way too fast. Enjoy your meal and you won't feel as thirsty. That's what I always notice at McDonalds...fast food you simply eat a lot faster than a proper meal at a restaurant and all of a sudden you feel thirsty like you have just run for an hour.

    As per usual, great video guys! Wondering about the stats. 2,800 calories for daily intake in Japan and 3,800 for U.S. seem quite high for averages, especially since 2,000 is the daily recommended (although I realize no one is that "average"). Looking at the same Wikipedia table you guys referenced, it makes a bit more sense that the calories eaten would be lower, as those calorie counts are based on the calories available. There are losses due to spoilage, food lost during the cooking process, food being served and not eaten, and pets eating the food.

    • @seankurth4371
      @seankurth4371 7 років тому +13

      There are also always going to be a small amount of people who are way, way above average. I'm talking about 400-600 pounders who eat 5,000+ calories per day, and often much more. The "my 600 pound life" types are obviously a tiny minority, but without hard numbers, I'd guess it's 1% in the USA, and 0.5%-0.7% in Japan. With such extreme outliers, that would be enough to skew the average upwards by a few hundred calories. If they're mostly bedridden and cared for by relatives or nursing homes, you'd almost never see them in public, but that doesn't mean they don't factor into weight and calorie intake statistics.

    • @Loathomar
      @Loathomar 7 років тому +14

      2,000 is a bit statically low from an average, that is that average for a young adult american women who is not very active, which a young adult american man is 2,400 both of these are for low activeity levels. A young active male will need 3k and that is not "that" active. When I go backpacking I will burn over 6,000 calories per day, but that is 12-15 miles a day over mountains with 30+lb on my back, and I am 6'5" and 235lbs, so it is rather extreme.
      But the answer to your question is "food waste" and the measurement comes from not how much food is eaten, but how much food is bought. Americans are REALLY bad when it comes to this. In total American wastes about 40% of all it's food, and 60% of that is done by consumers, so of the 3,800 calories bought, we eat 2,888. It is still too much, and is why we are fat, but it is also more realistic.

      On the other side, as an active tiny woman in the US, I maintain weight at 1300 calories per day. For my height/weight, my BMI is smack in the middle of healthy. I would gain OVER a lb a week eating 2000.

    The biggest issue, in my opinion, is the amount of Sweets (soft drinks/sugary juices, Candy, Ice cream) consumed in America. I stopped consuming sugars, and dropped 30 pounds in 3 months with virtually no exercise. A large coke has 600 calories! and you drink that along side your 1400 calorie combo meal without even thinking about it, and just like that you've already hit your daily recommended intake, with just one meal.

      It's even worse. Calorie counting works (but risks losing all kinds of mass, not just fat) when you manage to get down near your base metabolic rate, but a high carbohydrate diet (which is the norm) *prevents* using your fat reserves. If you restrict carbs specifically you can have an energy surplus and still lose fat weight, which means you can gain more useful mass at the same time and not go hungry. Keeping the high carb dose while restricting calories will cause frequent blood sugar crashes, a very unpleasant experience.

      Yeah I mostly cut out sugary drinks after I looked up the daily sugar intakes. It's like 23-26g~ for women, and a lot of drinks (and not even big ones) will have around that much or more. Just felt kinda gross drinking that much sugar so fast after I realized that. Plus, it's not like getting a water over soda makes a huge difference in the quality of your meal anyway. I think it's one of those really good steps towards healthy eating if other changes seem too drastic.

    I also think it has something to do with the cuisine. Japanese food is in general more seafood based, home cooking and small snacks. American cuisine however, beef, chicken and pork based (livestock), eating out and snacks throughout the day.
    I’m not saying either one is good or bad they’re just different. And it’s the fact that regardless of what food you eat, eating too much of it can cause weight gain on either end.

      Not entirely true.
      Japan has soda machine every corner and they have like the most inventive snacks I've ever seen but their people still thin it might because when you're in Japan who have to walk a lot.
      And local people don't eat sushi or sashimi everyday, they eat something call "Don" it is a bowl packed with a lot of rice and top it with something like tong kat su (pork fried) or sweet gravy slide beef sometimes added an egg. and in some restaurant you can refill rice and water. Totally not that healthy if you think about their cuisine outside Sushi or sashimi. Most of their meals are salty and sweet.
      But I love their food so much.!

      Hound Life Vlogs McDonald's India does not serve beef or pork as these hurt the religious sentiments of the people (hindus don't eat beef while Muslims don't eat pork). And there's are considerable no of vegetarians in India (by vegetarian, i mean they don't eat chicken, egg and fish! Only vegetables and milk)(orchids there are no of non vegetarians who do eat chicken, egg,fish. My favorite burger is McAloo tikki which literally translates to McPotato Patty which tbh I've found it to have more crushed green peas mixed in it than actual potato. Lol.
      And we also have McMaharaja which is basically a big mac but with veg and chicken option.
      We also have McPaneer that's is a popular option among the vegetarians (paneer =cottage cheese and it's a dairy product)
      There are more McDonald's than KFCs and it's more popular than subway.

    Most of Japanese students either walk or take the subway. But even if they have to take the subway they have to walk to it, and from it to school. Whereas here in America most people get driven to school or the school bus takes them there (not including college) and physical ed isn't even anything. Parents kept sueing for every little damn thing the school can't really do anything in normal class unless they join a sport. Plus we drink huge sodas full of high fructose corn syrup.

However, sweet tea sometimes contains even MORE sugar than some sodas - so beware that too. I know water isn't very exciting to drink, but it really is the best thing for you and helps your body better digest your food.

    The reason the cup sizes might be so small at regular restaurants is because it's only technically healthy to drink around 2 oz of liquids during meal time (aka 15 minutes before you eat to the time you finish your meal.) The liquids actually dilute your stomach acid and make it harder for your body to digest your food. I learned this in my college Nutrition class and honestly helps me feel healthier.

      harlee likes frenchtoast exactly the same where im from, bleached foods like bread and pasta cost less. They do more to bleach these products but because they do less to brown and wholewheat you must pay more for it

      Actually eating healthy can be cheap but you have to cook for yourself and it's not as satisfying.

    I'm a huge foodie, but when I went to Japan to visit for two weeks I was eating everything I could find, but I still have lost 8 lb in that two-week period. Of course, all the walking most likely helped. LOL

    I wish the food in America was more like the food in Japan. I have never had fast food just because it is so unhealthy compared to what I eat on a day to day basis and the servings are so large. The soda part was frightening

Even if you decide to take it a little more easy at some point again I'll still love your videos)

    HA!!! Just goes to show that it is not the real food value in fast food that is the problem but how often you eat this fast food. How interesting to see that Japanese Fast food has more calories.... just that Japanese people eat less fast food WOW. A really interesting and informative video, well done you two.

      Coffee Hime Genes can be a factor too, but also it's not always the calorie, but also the difference in food quality ~ japanese eats less fatty food than most americans, has fresher meat compared to "fresh" (frozen) meat in america. A lot of american good are also sugar-laden while hapanese tends to eat on the lighter and minimal sides of things; less sugar for example.

      Coffee Hime
      It depends what you're eating, calories alone aren't a factor of health. Sugars turn into fat, so if you eat a lot of sugar filled things that what would cause weight gain. Even if it's not many calories worth.
