Randy Bobandy...If you don't care then why even comment? This is something very serious, the earth quake was a 7.1 magnitude and various people died in this incident so please, grow up!
There was 2 hurricane before that too
Thanks for spreading this message I am from the city of Mexico but I recently moved gladly all of my family and friends survived, but as someone who lived there this is horrible, thank you for caring about our country.
Mexico as a whole needed a lot of help before that earthquake kappa

Rachel spends $50 on fast food
Jun: I was just gonna compare cups...
Gotta say that it turned out interesting though. Would have expected the size of the food to be a lot larger too.
Frank to George: Do you know about the cup sizes?
“THIS IS WHY AMERICA IS FATTO”
I feel you, Rachel. I drink a lot of water, too. I don't understand people who don't. D: Don't they get thirsty?!
I drink like 4-6l a day
I don't, because I can't stand the taste of plain water. I just can't palate it. It also makes my tummy upset. I get those 0 calorie, 0 sugar drink packets though, and put them in water bottles, so i stay hydrated lol
Oh I love your profile picture! I love Natsume too.
Actually I used to not drink water everyday until everyone started urging me to drink water and now I will feel "thirsty" when an hour has passed without water.
I think it's all what the body is used to at a time. If the body is used to not getting a lot of water, it will adjust to that and vice versa. Just my experience tho :)

The Japanese ads with the photoshopped girls look downright creepy. Their legs, torso, and arms are so unnaturally thin they look like slender man.

😂😂😂 slender man 😂 the most accurate description! They are thin and some are also wonky. Haha weird stuff so unappealing

The not drinking much (or any) water with meals thing is the same in Korea and blewwww myyyy mindddd at first! I'm totally that person who drinks several of those tiny cups of water and keeps asking for water bottle refills at restaurants, lol!
It's the same in China and Taiwan too!! Although if meals are served with drinks, it's usually tea or warm water, if any at all
The weird thing is - I never drink with meals at home (except for Thanksgiving, for some reason) but for some reason I always drink TONS of water at restaurants! Maybe they put too much salt in stuff??
but you do have to pay extra for a refill right ? if not then i wouldn´t even mind the cup size ^^
I usually down a few glasses of water at restaurants
This method is actually healthy and decreases bloating!! I know it is so hard but it's for good health I guess? Lol
how to get thinner: *move to japan*
blu fan I mean that’s a lie. If you move to japan and still eat like an American you’ll still gain weight.
@@hayleywastaken3603 Thats the joke
Kataclysm X actually you will get skinner by the things you consume. But like it still depends on what you eat. Japanese people usually eat healthy things and a lot of veggies
Task completed. Moved to Japan.
This actually works no joke ahaha I lived there for 10 months and lost 20kg
Eat at fast food once a week? I barely do it once a month, mostly because I grew with my parents saying "Hay comida en la casa!" (There's food at home!) so eating out never became a habit for me.
That's Caribbean parents' favourite thing to say (there's food at home) 😂
😂 gosh Asian parents also like to say that
Eating out doesn't have to be fast food.
I'd get the same thing when I was growing up, but now that I'm grown I eat out multiple times a week usually. Rarely ever a fast food restaurant.I like different kinds of food lol. Variety is nice and I'm not much of a cook nor am I interested in investing the time to become a good cook. Rather go out with a few friends or my siblings and get something nice.
Same
Fast food? what's that? my latin mom only knows healthy. I used to say like I don't want to eat this she would go "EN ESTA CASA SE COME LO QUE SE SIRVE" (In this house you eat what is served) and if I said it smells awful "NO HUELES LA COMIDA, LA COMES" (You don't smell the food, you eat it) and when I didn't eat it, she would count to 3 and Satan would be at my front door.
I love the production skills of this video and i can see how it has elements of humor that weren't there in the older videos, which is quite refreshing to see. Also, you guys seem much more bubbly than before especially Jun. Good job and Keep making such fun videos 😘😍

Wait a minute
Japanese cups aren‘t small, the Americans are just ridiculously huge. In Germany we even have slightly smaller cups than Japan does (McDonalds and Bk) and in France and the UK it‘s the same
France and the UK have similar cup sizes to Japan in fast-food restaurants but larger average cup sizes (like household cups).
For a second I thought this was about breasts
I’d choke and die if I didn’t drink anything while I ate wtf RIP me
Leo Skepi you are eating to fast.
some foods contain a lot of water by themselves so you dont need to drink with them
Its best to drink a lot of water before u eat. Therefore not only u dont get thirsty, but u also eat less bc u are somewhat full from the water already. Plus it helps w digestion. Just dont drink after u eat, that bad for digestion actually
Jun said that they don't drink anything while they eat, but actually, Japanese usually have miso soup with their meals!
Then obviously eat way too fast. Enjoy your meal and you won't feel as thirsty. That's what I always notice at McDonalds...fast food you simply eat a lot faster than a proper meal at a restaurant and all of a sudden you feel thirsty like you have just run for an hour.
As per usual, great video guys! Wondering about the stats. 2,800 calories for daily intake in Japan and 3,800 for U.S. seem quite high for averages, especially since 2,000 is the daily recommended (although I realize no one is that "average"). Looking at the same Wikipedia table you guys referenced, it makes a bit more sense that the calories eaten would be lower, as those calorie counts are based on the calories available. There are losses due to spoilage, food lost during the cooking process, food being served and not eaten, and pets eating the food.
There are also always going to be a small amount of people who are way, way above average. I'm talking about 400-600 pounders who eat 5,000+ calories per day, and often much more. The "my 600 pound life" types are obviously a tiny minority, but without hard numbers, I'd guess it's 1% in the USA, and 0.5%-0.7% in Japan. With such extreme outliers, that would be enough to skew the average upwards by a few hundred calories. If they're mostly bedridden and cared for by relatives or nursing homes, you'd almost never see them in public, but that doesn't mean they don't factor into weight and calorie intake statistics.
2,000 is a bit statically low from an average, that is that average for a young adult american women who is not very active, which a young adult american man is 2,400 both of these are for low activeity levels. A young active male will need 3k and that is not "that" active. When I go backpacking I will burn over 6,000 calories per day, but that is 12-15 miles a day over mountains with 30+lb on my back, and I am 6'5" and 235lbs, so it is rather extreme.
But the answer to your question is "food waste" and the measurement comes from not how much food is eaten, but how much food is bought. Americans are REALLY bad when it comes to this. In total American wastes about 40% of all it's food, and 60% of that is done by consumers, so of the 3,800 calories bought, we eat 2,888. It is still too much, and is why we are fat, but it is also more realistic.
On the other side, as an active tiny woman in the US, I maintain weight at 1300 calories per day. For my height/weight, my BMI is smack in the middle of healthy. I would gain OVER a lb a week eating 2000.
I should be eating 1 500 per day but I'm eating 1000 to lose weight. 2 000 is the norm for guys who don't do lots of sport.
I think one should consider that Americans are on average a bit taller than Japanese too. So they should eat a little more to be the same size, though of course not 1000 more calories.
(3800 wtf??)
Damn what? You just hit me with that gorgeous jewelry with no warning?
stxrfish they still have it in storage! I just checked it but I think the necklace is sold out :(
4:08 can we talk about how cute rachel is clinging to Jun
The biggest issue, in my opinion, is the amount of Sweets (soft drinks/sugary juices, Candy, Ice cream) consumed in America. I stopped consuming sugars, and dropped 30 pounds in 3 months with virtually no exercise. A large coke has 600 calories! and you drink that along side your 1400 calorie combo meal without even thinking about it, and just like that you've already hit your daily recommended intake, with just one meal.
It's even worse. Calorie counting works (but risks losing all kinds of mass, not just fat) when you manage to get down near your base metabolic rate, but a high carbohydrate diet (which is the norm) *prevents* using your fat reserves. If you restrict carbs specifically you can have an energy surplus and still lose fat weight, which means you can gain more useful mass at the same time and not go hungry. Keeping the high carb dose while restricting calories will cause frequent blood sugar crashes, a very unpleasant experience.
Yeah I mostly cut out sugary drinks after I looked up the daily sugar intakes. It's like 23-26g~ for women, and a lot of drinks (and not even big ones) will have around that much or more. Just felt kinda gross drinking that much sugar so fast after I realized that. Plus, it's not like getting a water over soda makes a huge difference in the quality of your meal anyway. I think it's one of those really good steps towards healthy eating if other changes seem too drastic.
Yeah too much sugar and less walking. The cities are different, but most American towns and suburbs are not very walkable. Everyone drives even it's only a mile to the store.
America is 1st in caloric intake, and Japan is 81st. Coincidentally, the country calling codes (first digits in a phone number) are also +1 for USA and +81 for Japan. You're welcome, for this useless info.

me too! Drinking your calories makes you fat! When you eat food, even fast food, it makes you full, but soda never makes you full, so you get fat when you drink it :P I get water if I go to a fast food restaurant.
Daniele Yea I mostly drink water and tea. When I was little, it'd be water and milk. What I do now is the adult version, lol. I rarely drink soda. I didn't even like it when I was little. I thought the bubbles felt weird.

I also think it has something to do with the cuisine. Japanese food is in general more seafood based, home cooking and small snacks. American cuisine however, beef, chicken and pork based (livestock), eating out and snacks throughout the day.
I’m not saying either one is good or bad they’re just different. And it’s the fact that regardless of what food you eat, eating too much of it can cause weight gain on either end.
Actually, Japan still has the same but they don’t forget to eat healthy foods too
Not entirely true.
Japan has soda machine every corner and they have like the most inventive snacks I've ever seen but their people still thin it might because when you're in Japan who have to walk a lot.
And local people don't eat sushi or sashimi everyday, they eat something call "Don" it is a bowl packed with a lot of rice and top it with something like tong kat su (pork fried) or sweet gravy slide beef sometimes added an egg. and in some restaurant you can refill rice and water. Totally not that healthy if you think about their cuisine outside Sushi or sashimi. Most of their meals are salty and sweet.
But I love their food so much.!
They real problems is that it seems like all the healthy food in America cost so damn much and most people don't have the time to exercise

Kataclysm X it’s a joke and going out anytime a week isn’t bad it depends on what food u eat !! I think u are thinking of fast foods not like healthier options

Should count the carbs/sugar in American menus instead of calories. I bet it would've been a huge difference. Americans put sugar on everything -D
is it still that corn syrup thing they use cause (dont remember from how reliable a source) i heard that its worse than just regular plain sugar
I laugh at myself. I'm living in America and am an American citizen myself yet I always use the term, "American people..," usually related to food, because my family never eats out. Asian families lol

After traveling to various locations of the world, I found that even fast foods such as McDonalds are of various qualities and taste despite the same menu in different countries. Different expectations maybe?
Hound Life Vlogs Yes I think companies respond to cultural trends and local resources.
Nice vlogs. New fan and sub here.
I also agree, I think people get what they expect. Bigger portions, salt, sugar or whatever regulations they need to abide by.
Its cheaper to go to local sources for meat and dairy so you'll get a different quality meal. I enjoy mcdonalds / wendys burgers in the Dominican and ecuador more than the u.s. i had a 3/4 lb burger at wendys that was supeeer juicy compared to the wendys here even though we dont serve that
Hound Life Vlogs McDonald's India does not serve beef or pork as these hurt the religious sentiments of the people (hindus don't eat beef while Muslims don't eat pork). And there's are considerable no of vegetarians in India (by vegetarian, i mean they don't eat chicken, egg and fish! Only vegetables and milk)(orchids there are no of non vegetarians who do eat chicken, egg, fish. My favorite burger is McAloo tikki which literally translates to McPotato Patty which tbh I've found it to have more crushed green peas mixed in it than actual potato. Lol.
And we also have McMaharaja which is basically a big mac but with veg and chicken option.
We also have McPaneer that's is a popular option among the vegetarians (paneer =cottage cheese and it's a dairy product)
There are more McDonald's than KFCs and it's more popular than subway.
Btw even coca cola tastes a little different in different countries.
Most of Japanese students either walk or take the subway. But even if they have to take the subway they have to walk to it, and from it to school. Whereas here in America most people get driven to school or the school bus takes them there (not including college) and physical ed isn't even anything. Parents kept sueing for every little damn thing the school can't really do anything in normal class unless they join a sport. Plus we drink huge sodas full of high fructose corn syrup.
Kirishima Eijirou - Actually a rock yeah that's not just about America. What you're talking about happens in most of countries too.
No it doesn't. Except for the soda part
But not every single American Does what your saying. I actually walk to school everyday at my mom’s house. Typically the reason most Americans don’t walk to school is because nowadays there are a lot more kidnappers and pedophiles out there. And actually, I don’t ever drink soda because I think it’s disgusting 😂

I know you receive plenty of comments and it is probably impossible to notice every single one, but I have been a fan of your channel for years now and it makes me really happy to watch how you developed, both as a couple and as individuals, especially when it comes to your lifestyle and work choices. To me you are an example of what happens when a person is not afraid to take risks, endures, and holds on to what's valuable even if it takes certain sacrifices. It's a joy to observe how you are in the right place. I wish the two of you all the best. Love from Poland :)
This is such a sweet comment, thank you so much!! It means a lot. :)
Once I stopped drinking soda I lost almost 15kg within a year. Didn't even change my diet except for that. Before that I never expected that drinks alone could make such a difference
I've also started asking for salads as a side whenever I eat at diners. I think that I have more energy afterwards and I don't feel as bloated after doing that
Yeah soda is a huge thing. It is nothing but empty calories, so there is no negative health issues if you just cut all soda out of your diet, and you are guaranteed to lose weight.
how much soda did you usually drink? (just a geniune question, don't mean to offend you)
Tina I drank a lot to be honest (about 1litre a day) because I disliked water. Just switched to other sugar free drinks. The weight loss stopped at around 60kg, which is ok for my size I guess (166cm)
So true! Soda, especially dark caramel colored sodas, are awful for you. Not only because of the effect on body weight, but your dental health as well. However, sweet tea sometimes contains even MORE sugar than some sodas - so beware that too. I know water isn't very exciting to drink, but it really is the best thing for you and helps your body better digest your food.
I live in Japan. I am used to small sizes and small meals and etc. I went to America for the first time in two years and I couldn't finish a single meal I ate there, I was appalled by the sheer size and amount of food they served. Also, I'm fairly small-sized so whenever I go to America people tell me how skinny I am, but the truth is I just live in Japan. I eat I lot, I just live in Japan. That's my secret. Living in Japan.

AYE AYEEE!!! I thought he was going to say that too
The reason the cup sizes might be so small at regular restaurants is because it's only technically healthy to drink around 2 oz of liquids during meal time (aka 15 minutes before you eat to the time you finish your meal.) The liquids actually dilute your stomach acid and make it harder for your body to digest your food. I learned this in my college Nutrition class and honestly helps me feel healthier.
Do you have a source on this? Everything I can find says that this is a common myth and that water is at best helpful for digestion or at worst neutral.
The stomach monitors what you put in it and adapts to it.
....i'm watching this as i drink an American large McDonalds sweet tea. feels bad man

Damn , where tf y'all been ?
I use to work at McDonald's in America and I would see a lot of the same people come through the drive thru almost every single day.
Indeed America has a higher caloric intake, but in Japan most people are traditional and eat at home a lot.
That doesn't mean fast food in Japan doesn't get busy,
when I was in Tokyo I seen a lot of them get super busy during the lunch hour alone.
The world is an awesome place !!! 😎💱

I frincken LOVE MCdonalds fries.
the problem with eating healthy in America is that the healthier the food the more it cost. The less healthier the food the less it cost. Its stupid.
harlee likes frenchtoast yep, at my school a salad is like 7:50 usd and a box with 2 ENTIRE hot pockets is 3.75 usd, and it’s more filling. I wanted some coconut chips the other day but they were like 7 usd but the potato chips were 99 cents so I just got nothing.
It’s not stupid it’s just more expensive to make healthy food.
harlee likes frenchtoast exactly the same where im from, bleached foods like bread and pasta cost less. They do more to bleach these products but because they do less to brown and wholewheat you must pay more for it
Actually eating healthy can be cheap but you have to cook for yourself and it's not as satisfying.
chickpeas, beans, brown rice, season vegetables, oat meal, ect. Healthy food is not expensive. But, eating out is expensive.
One thing, you forgot the ice lol they fill them up 2/3 to the top some all the way. you're not actually getting that much pop most of it is ice.
dn32585 i worked in fast food b4 and never did that.
Well I'm a manager now, corporate has posters on the wall with pictures. saying how much ice to put in the cups. when pop cost is high(food cost) they'll tell us to fill them to the top.
dn32585 that's awful :(
yes it is
Gotta ask for no ice :) it always ends up watering down your drink anyway.
I'm a huge foodie, but when I went to Japan to visit for two weeks I was eating everything I could find, but I still have lost 8 lb in that two-week period. Of course, all the walking most likely helped. LOL
I wish the food in America was more like the food in Japan. I have never had fast food just because it is so unhealthy compared to what I eat on a day to day basis and the servings are so large. The soda part was frightening
I think you might be the only youtubers so far that I see changing over a loooong period of time that constantly get better and better ~ The day you decide to stop making videos will be a dark day in my life :') But until then I'll watch every single one ♥ (also, no pressure. Even if you decide to take it a little more easy at some point again I'll still love your videos)
HA!!! Just goes to show that it is not the real food value in fast food that is the problem but how often you eat this fast food. How interesting to see that Japanese Fast food has more calories.... just that Japanese people eat less fast food WOW. A really interesting and informative video, well done you two.
Don't forget to calculate the ice we put in our soda in the US
From the usa, I can only tolerate ice in coke
This makes me feel fat and skinny at the same time 😂

Hope you guys are supper successful with youtube and everything else you do.

Jun works hard preparing delicious meals in Japan. That’s why he’s fit. I spend a lot of time watching his videos on the couch in America. That’s why I worry about my BMI.
Jun as Jigsaw.................. that is interesting

omg yes! it’s an asian philosophy i think, that drinking anything while eating is bad for digestion. my parents never allowed me to drink even water with my meals when i was little.. it’s not so common anymore tho
You make me hungry...
**Checking wallet*
Ohh... Curse you two 😓
0:37, Rachael (The foreigner) is next to the guy in the blue and green under-armor shirt! Haha, I win!
Im American and I eat less calories than the average Japanese person, and I'm still thicker than one... What the heck man...
Coffee Hime Genes can be a factor too, but also it's not always the calorie, but also the difference in food quality ~ japanese eats less fatty food than most americans, has fresher meat compared to "fresh" (frozen) meat in america. A lot of american good are also sugar-laden while hapanese tends to eat on the lighter and minimal sides of things; less sugar for example.
You probably still eat everything laised with corn syrup
genetic probably. Cant deny that
Coffee Hime
It depends what you're eating, calories alone aren't a factor of health. Sugars turn into fat, so if you eat a lot of sugar filled things that what would cause weight gain. Even if it's not many calories worth.
Coffee Hime Metabolism...?
