- This was a small portion of a video I made for my penpal to update her all on things family related, and showed her some sights from the city. It has turned into a little time capsule, apologies for my monotone commentary!
But at what cost, yi know...BUT AT WHAT COST.
The Fish that never swam, the tree that never grew, the Bell that never rang- the Bird that never flew....I think.😅
The man at the 7th minute looks like he is tweaking hard
Looking at Suchiehall st from '94 breaks my heart to compare it to today.
Thanks for posting this!, film like this is important not only in a historical sense but nostalgia also.. I’ve walked around the streets of glasgow for the best part of 30 years and it’s not until you see old footage you realise how much has changed (for better or worse) so again thank you.
I think I’m firmly on the “changed for the better” side of the fence on that one
@@glasgowmcglasgowfacevotegr7049
🤣“changed for the better”. Have you been in the city centre recently? Can you please tell me just ONE thing which is better? (not bike lanes)
I was 18 in 1994. I miss the City Centre as it used to be. It is a complete cesspit now. Looking at this video just hits home how much Glasgow has changed, for the worse. Not a Romanian beggars in sight. Happy days
Brilliant video. I stayed in Holland Street just top of the town before you get to Charing Cross. I was 22 years old and would often cross Bell's Bridge over the clyde to my then Girlfriends house in Broomloan Court Ibrox. Loved staying in the toon and hated life with the now EX. This video reminded me of just how much I loved not being broke and alone. Made many friends who were both genuine and like me had the inspiration to better myself - eventually I got there despite it taking nearly 20 years but I got there. 😅😂😅 Still ma,e a point though of visiting hame especially the toon and the places you showed here. Truly a brilliant wee video with excellent descriptions of how the perception of Glasgow life was then.
Thank you
nice upload mate
9:17 ahhhh beatties the model shop. I was 9 in 94. I loved that place, and then the ELC after! I want to go back!
Geez… I was 3 years old back then 🤦♂️… a lot of it actually hasn’t changed that much.. good to get a look at the place..
I was 6. Keep hoping to see my late dad in these vids online
Nice wee video with enjoyable commentary. No mobile phone zombies in those days. A different time.
If they had Smartphones in Victorian times they would've been just as obsessed. Don't be foolish.
God I miss that city.
@Daood Zafar The Southside has some of the nicest parts of the city you stupid fool.
john aitchie fuck off then go live somewhere else
@@Diana-yr8wp well said
@@johnaitchie3803 I agree with Diana. Fuck off.

Sack the board.. Nothing has changed.. 1994.
My dad worked in Buchanan House for many years, I visited him loads when I was a kid. I was 9 in 1994!
Hows it feel to almost be 40
@@jojofan2425 Ouch! I'm only 35!
Walked by your ''Office'' for 13 years every day just about when I was working in The Sunday Post form 83 to 96, Good old Station Bar
Anti gay articles in SP then such as in October 86 a lad hone after his 1st day at Strathclyde university showing his mum his student union diary which gave details of Glasgows best gay meeting places and sp said it was some start to a youngster in higher education
Showed this to my dad who also worked in Buchanan House. He worked in the mail room. "John Steele, he worked in finance!"
I worked in the Mail Room in Blythswood House and Finance in there and Buchanan Street
Looking for Robert Steele &wife Annette , retired, got 3 of my Auntie Ellen ' s grandchildren, now all grown up, aunt Ellen lived on Elizabeth st, by Bellahouston School. Hi Bobby, , & thank you for your good video JOHN.
love this post more thanks ya wee shite
What no traffic cone on Chooky's head?
It was illegal back then n council removed it but due to the dangers of people climbing it over and over even after police involvement to put it back up the council only recently gave in and out it up themselves safely so to stop others putting themselves at risk.
Hi, do you have a video of the Pollok Centre clock?
Loved that clock when I was wee watched it for ages
@@Diana-yr8wp Remember the lion that winked and nudged the clown that turned to start the chime?
Thanks mate
Sack the board … how times havnt changed 🤣🤣🇬🇧🇬🇧
Hows that worked out for you?😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
How many trebles now ? Oh times HAVE changed love the flags its all you got left
Get rid of the writing it puts youoff you cannot seexany thing .
What writing?
Maybe you ought to take off your “Captions” settings, rather than criticising?
a) Instead of concentrating on the modern monstrosity at the start, I wish you had turned around and filmed the old George Hotel instead.
b) You were at Virginia street but didn't get footage of the much missed Virginia Galleries.
I miss the Virginia Galleries.. I’ve only ever found one picture from in there online 😢 I wish I’d taken photos of it back in the day.
@@JONINXBOX I can still map it out clearly in my head. Come in and Obelisk Books was on the right, go straight ahead and take the left beside the stairs which wound around the lift and it took you through to the Movie Memorabilia shop and the proper antiques section, which was predominately in the basement. The cafe was downstairs too.
I still have furniture, clothes and comics which I purchased in the Virginia Galleries.
@@jdh6752 good times.. sadly missed.
That bit at Royal Exchange Square where the old guy playing violin or fiddle at the archway has been a notorious spot for homeless beggars for as long as I can remember.
No one would dare try busking there nowadays.
Oh! How Glasgow has went down the toilet 😩.
Really? It used to basically be Scotland’s answer to Belgrade during the war back then. Grim, grey, cigarettey, miserable full of council hi rise flats and poverty. at least it’s now a lot less rough imo and it’s been done up a lot/ redeveloped.
@@glasgowmcglasgowfacevotegr7049 It may have been "done up" but not for the better.
There's hardly any shops worth visiting now. Argyle St and Sauchiehall Street are just pure tat parades now.
The place might not be as rough as it was but other areas of crime have rocketed over the last two decades (I.D fraud, sexual assaults, etc).
Everywhere also seems to look like a glass and steel salute to Berlin and the European super state project nowadays as stylish and iconic buildings such as the St Enoch and Govan underground stations are gone and are now in the aforementioned E.U style which no doubt suits the never ending sea of foreigners that now reside in the city.
Dummy.......it’s the tree that never grew, the bird that never flew, the the bell that never rung and the fish that never swum.
