you're quite correct that it's more sensible to replace these movements than to repair them, but it should be pointed out that if you have the expertise to disassemble and make sure it's properly cleaned and lubricated then it's very likely you will have a much better movement than the one that left the factory. thanks again for showing people how to work on these cheap watches

Thank you for a superb video. You have a gift for sharing your passion with your viewers. I call it a passion because I take much more satisfaction from repairing something broken and making it useful again than having something shiny and new.
If I may offer a tip though; before you removed the hands, it might have been a good idea to hold the movement sideways, reinsert the crown/stem and slowly turn the hands through one 12-hour cycle and determine if they may have been interfering or dragging against each other at some point. I have occasionally observed a perfectly strong-running movement stopped in such a manner. After remounting the hands it exhibited no trouble at all.
Thanks again for making informative videos that are easy to understand. My favorite video of yours will always be the next one.

If this is "work" for you, you are correct, and you always risk that the watch ends up junk. If you are not satisfied by "playing" with the watch as a learning adventure, you should not do it and not spend the money on tools.
However, if you look around, basic watchmaking tools for a full mechanical service can be bought for a total of less than 150 dollars for sure, LESS than 40 for a basic set to service quartz watches. A rudimentary timegrapher costs nothing, because you can measure beat error and time-drift with free smart phone apps, instead of buying a 100 dollar timegrapher :) The app that I use and has been tried and recommended by most is called "Watch Accuracy Meter".
Especially for quartz watches I strongly recommend you have a basic tool kit! You will never throw away another quartz watch, because it is "dead", when most of the time just the battery is depleted!
I already have a few tool kits for making my own battery changes safely. Just those 30 or 40 dollars for battery changes (batteries costs less than a dollar a piece) paid for it self almost as soon as I received the tools!
The "naked" cost (no tax, no shipping) was about 15 dollars each for a basic watchmaker tool kit and a table-top vice press with fitted inserts to press cases-backs on safely, without using a hammer! When you look past pretty fashion watches (NOT worth spending more than USD 20 on one, if not water-proof to at least 50 meters), one good watch costs between 50 and 200 dollars! In the past, I broke a few watches forcing lids back on, so I bought proper tools, like a vice-press with sizeable inserts. They were absolutely worth it, saving shop-costs every year for each quartz watch! I am also going to buy more tools, like a hand puller/presser for only 12 bucks! Then I can buy a cheap movement and recover a couple of old Citizen watches that were very expensive 40 years ago!
Just the pleasure of doing the hobby is worth it, like building a model railway, etc. I also have about 17 quartz watches left after breaking a few without good tools for changing batteries, PLUS my 95 year old Momsy's 20 or so, so the basic tools were WELL worth it, with a battery change at a watchmaker often costing more than the watch, IF you can find a trustworthy watchmaker, which is difficult in USA!
