- In this video, I cut the copper noodles off the ends of Al/Cu radiators to what kind of difference we get in price. This is kind of a follow-up video I made to my other video where I talk about selling clean vs. dirty Al/Cu radiators.

Great video Sir, Glad to see you back. I did about 50 copper/aluminum rads yesterday at my job. Use a hammer and a nail puller/pry bar to bang off the iron ends it much easier.
Anthony, I need to get better at using youtube! I just saw your comment. You're right it is way easier! That's how I do it for the big coils that are 6ft tall and 20ft long! They have steel dividers so if you cut one side then you can bang it off. I use a small sledgehammer and a masonry chisel! I might get some in this week. I keep wanting to make a video showing how I dismantle 30ft long rooftop units but I usually never have time to set everything up and I end up having to get it out of the way.
Thank you! You also had the cost of the blades, and technically something for wear and tear on the saws, if you count that. I expected a bigger spread between clean and dirty, but maybe it was just wishful thinking. I used to cut the noodles when I was active in it. Thanks for all of your great videos!

I've found that an oscillating tool with a good metal cutting blade is by far the very best fastest tool by far. For taring down aluminum copper radiators. I take them all the way apart. Remove all copper. Completely separating aluminum from copper. I've had such great luck with oscillating tools I've shifted my business almost completely to radiators and electronics. Make sure you wear safety glasses and use a method to catch small flying pieces of aluminum. I use a large plastic bin.
Just figured this out myself. It does work better than anything else I’ve tried.

On the ends one side is #1 copper and the other is #2. I’m ocd with my scrap. Lol
You have to be if the yards are picky!
For my yards, about 15¢ difference between #1 and #2, and about 30¢ less for iron left on the rads! Worth it to clean it up for me.

Excellent video as usual one thing that you may not of mentioned or maybe I missed it was for your $10 gain how much time did you spend?
Kitfox, I think the $10 you're talking about was at 12:25. The longest part of editing the videos is making sure I didn't forget anything or make mistakes! Sometimes I get in a hurry, but I always appreciate it when viewers are looking out for me! I meant to time it but forgot as usual! I think roughly from watching my video clips it was around thirty minutes from start to finish. But if I just cut the ends off completly with copper noodles still attached to the iron I'm sure it would have been less than 5 minutes. Also, keep in mind I have cut hundreds of thousands of pounds in my lifetime, but I can honestly say that this was the very first time I have ever cut the noodles off separate. I guess my point is I'm sure I could have done it a lot faster if I were used to doing it this way! At the end of the day, I always tell my customers, if you enjoy the way you scrap items and it makes you happy then keep on keepin on!!!
my rule of thumb is for ac units eg upright and window shakers
15 to .20 lb sell whole
if you process you will get .20 to 30 cents / lb

We use a pallet with a piece of wood nailed on it to hold the aircore straight, it kills your back so I may try your way of the one handed cut, cut 100s a month that’s a struggle some times

It depends on the scrap yard, Some yards pay $1.26 & Some $1.00 for clean, There's a a big difference. Some yards pay the top prices it might be only $5 between clean & dirty
On those rads with the flanged steel on the sides, I've always had luck with a pair of channel locks and bending it back to clear the plane so my sawzall blade can cut them as normal. Faster than trying to pry those little pieces out of there from cutting it on the inside of the steel ends.

Lol! It is a Milwaukee M18 cordless hacksaw. And I wish it played music!
Bracken Recycling mine does, but unfortunately it plays a March of 1986 top 40, by Casey Casem, over and over again. It's just god awful.
The scrap yards here will take them with the iron ends on but only at copper motor price 10-20c a lb. so removing them is a must.

I've been collecting copper for some time (wire, pipes) But I'm running out of room and I've still got a lot of wire to strip, Would be worth melting it down and if so would it affect the price? Thanks

Why don't you cut the aluminum off the copper?
You can bend that flange over with a pair of channel locks no problem to cut directly against the steel.

Is that the 12v Milwaukee fuel? Fantastic tool. Grab yourself a carbide blade for it
If you can get mor radiators, using machine for stripping them is better. also it can be down by whole line to granulate & separate.
What u do is cut down the side of the metel let the noodles fall off get close to the metal as you can it makes it easier for the metal to come loose from the coal you can just pull it it'll come right off

Dude..use a circular saw with a carbide blade...rips em to hell in no time...been doing this for 30 years. one pass to clear the copper off the busy side..one more pass to remove the scrap steel..flip it over..remove the entire calm side as one piece and toss it as refer end...time is money amigo

Not when you have kids who are "bored" and want something to do! Doing the power tool cutting and let them do the rest!
If you're skilled at the use of good air hammers, a long sharp chisel will walk right down nice and clean. Metal ends practically fall off and you lose none of your weight that saw blades eat up.
To remove the ends I use a hammer and just tap from side c to side
You should have your camera closer to what you were doing, or zoom in. It is hard to see exactly what you are doing when you are that far away.
You need two people. Sawzall vibrations on those coils will make you lose hold.
You're very engaging and animated which makes for good video however you need better lighting and a tighter shot -- I can't see what you're doing.
Use a claw hammer and knock the ends off. Much faster and easier.

Use a cut off wheel on a grider omg!
OMG! Aluminum oxide dust everywhere.. cut off wheels are inefficient for softer metals. Heats up the copper and smushes it and creates toxic dust.
