I would imagine so, since the fuse has gunpowder in it I doubt it would blow out. Getting the fuse to stay in the coconut and in contact with the powder inside would be the bigger challenge.
nah just close the hole with some hot glue or probably even a piece of paper is enough to don't let the fuse fly away

marcofico1 The whole idea of coconut grenades is that they're an improvised weapon to use if you're stranded like the Robinsons were in the book.film The Swiss Family Robinson. So you probably don't have hot glue, though you're probably right in that you could just wrap the fuse in more of whatever material you used to make it and cram it into the hole.

I have a lovely sack of coconuts that I've altered in a small way.
Wrap the coconut all around in several layers of thin string since it would allow the pressure to build up before rupturing which in return would cause much more damage especially with shrapnel

I would like to see more of this stuff. Like maybe setting up molds of ballistic jelly at different distances to test the deadliness of a coconut grenade. Also, if you could set this up in a more open space, like a parking lot, you may also have a better idea how far the shrapnel flies.

mr. grant thanx for the tutorial i just made myself a pineaple bomb filled with BP and some broken glass and i used it. it packed the punch really strong you could feel strong vibration and projectiles were flyin everywere really great.

Excellent experiment. I can tell you from making paper tube rockets in college that your fuses are bordering on rocket dimensions, that's why they burn so fast. If you use much less powder and less paper, you get thin fuses that burn at a consistent rate and don't 'jet' . Nice work. Also, if you want to know how much force a coconut grenade has, put them in heavy cardboard boxes and detonate. The 'shrapnel' will embed in the walls of the box.
