The equation for this reaction is:
2NaOH + 2Al + 2H2O ---> 2NaAlO2 + 3H2
Where we have Sodium hydroxide, Aluminum metal, and water producing Sodium aluminate and Hydrogen gas.
Arguably, an easier reaction would be using Hydrochloric acid, which can also be found in other cleaning supplies. In that instance, the reaction would be:
6HCl + 2Al ---> 2AlCl3 + 3H2
You would be producing the same amount of Hydrogen gas without having to make an NaOH solution which could be potentially more harmful in contact with skin. The HCl could also be easier to find in other cleaners.
However, you would also be using three times as much HCl in the reaction than you would with NaOH, so that is also something to consider.

I did the same thing back in chemistry class 5 or 6 years ago... except instead of a balloon, I hooked it up to another chemistry glass thing with a rubber lid with a glass pipe protruting from the lid... I lit the glass pipe and the whole thing exploded... my chemistry teacher just stared at me, before she bursted out laughing. Needless to say, I thought I was gonna die

A note for peeps watching this video: lye/sodium hydroxide isn't something to just play around with. It is extremely caustic: it can very quickly burn through your skin and flesh. Trust me, I've had a saturated solution of sodium hydroxide leak through pinholes in nitrile gloves before and it's taken about 5 years for the scars to mostly fade. Anyway, when using lye you should add the lye to the water not the other way around because dissolving lye is a very exothermic reaction. If you add the water to the lye the water can flash to steam, exploding lye all over the place. NOT something you want.

Been there done that! If you want to have more control of the reaction, fill a large tub or bucket with water and put the glass bottle in it when it starts to heat up. It will take longer to fill a balloon but letting the mixture heat up to the boiling point means you could have steam and hot sodium hydroxide solution coming out that will damage anything it touches, including your skin!

I just tried that experiment! IT WENT GREAT!! Except don't use hot glue as a seal. I made my self a little system that the hydrogen had to go through. It worked great for about 5 mins then it got so hot that it melted the seal on the jar I was using and the hot glue sealing some tubing on it.

But, I believe what is actually happening is the Drano, lye, NaOH, does not enter directly into the reaction but dissolves the aluminum oxide passivation layer so that the aluminum can react with the water.

you can get some hydrogen in a more efficient way by containing the reaction in a pressure cooker pot with some simple modifications and note the rubber seal is very heat resistant and you don't have worry about the heat generated

the bottle traps air in your mixture. you should make a proper extractor that purges out the air volume first for a more pure H mix. you have more than enough reactant to lose a little.
also you are getting steam mixed in. try cooling the reaction vessel with cryofluids.

The NaOH isn't actually there to react directly with the Aluminum. It actually is there to destroy aluminum oxide so that the pure aluminum can kick out hydrogen. NaOH is also there to react with aluminum hydroxide that forms to make it water soluble.
