Even on Earth, there are creatures that exist that might as well be "aliens" for our own intents and purposes. In the deepest depths of the oceans, some *must* and can *only* exist at pressures that would cause us to implode. There are radiotrophic fungi (fungus that survive off of other forms of radiation rather than sunlight) that are growing and thriving in the Chernobyl "tomb" without any sort of sunlight present whatsoever since the reactor was filled in with cement. We have launched tardigrades into the vacuum of space and they survived. In that sense, "aliens" as we might insofar understand them, exist here on Earth. Why shouldn't something similar have the potential to do so on Titan- given that the presence of liquid methane and ethane, along with an atmosphere, and abundant source of radiation (Jupiter), already exist?
Megaprojects, here are some video ideas: 1. The Psyche Mission. The Psyche mission is a NASA mission that's going to a uniquely metal rich asteroid named Psyche which is believed to be the core of a planet that failed to form. 2. The Euclid Space Telescope. The ESA launched Euclid to reach the sun earth L2 point to search for the presence of dark matter in the universe. 3. DAMA LIBRA and LUX ZEPLIN. DAMA LIBRA and LUX ZEPLIN are both dark matter detectors using loads of confusing technology in order to detect dark matter. Pls consider covering these topics. :).

If humanity cared enough we could easily explore the entire solar system by now. But people's don't care enough it seems. Also if humanity was devoted enough to figuring out what these "UAP's" are that seemingly defy our understanding of technology then we could also learn the truth, but humans JUST DON'T CARE. tiktak or whatever is too important to people I guess. People are too concerned with dumb stuff to care about the big questions, and when presented with them they ignore them and come up with excuses. No wonder aliens avoid us.
Definitely sounds AMAZING. A plane that drinks! It's usually the pilot :P I do still love when Simon gets to geek out over space topics, and this one's a true gem.

Which is essentially the same exact thing lol at least the monorail came with a decent song and dance number, however...lol!
Yup, Flight will be different depending on the planet you are on. While we can do plane flights at altitude on earth. We might need to look back at some of the stuff we tried out in the 50s and 60s for flight on other worlds. Like those soviet and USA ground effect vehicles might be better for some environments. Hover crafts that we kind of just gave up on cause of cost effectiveness might have better use on another planet etc.

What Simon has left out is another possibility. To the general public Mars may seem like the best place for a permanent non-earth settlement. However, to many in the scientific community, Titan is a far better choice for a permanent settlement. Cold, distance from Earth, and less gravitate are huge negatives, but not needing a pressurized spacesuit or worrying as much about radiation from the sun are even larger positives. On Mars living underground is a certainty, on Titan, this wouldn't be necessary. NASA is interested in Titan because after Earth, long-term, it is the next most habitable body in our solar system.
I read a paper a while ago regarding microbial life existing within liquid methane in storage tanks. Apparently they are what cause fuels to break down.
It'd also have to wait for an awful lot of oxygen. You can set off a spark in any combustible gas or vapour, but if there is nothing for it (gas or vapour) to react with, nothing will much happen.
That's a Handley Page Victor, with added 'V' tail and the cockpit windscreen and intakes blanked out! 😂........ The irony, that the Victor had a sculpted lower fuselage, that made emergency 'ditching' on water effectively impossible, crew were told eject instead of attempt emergency landings over water... a comedic choice by the artist🤣
The aircraft already seems very impressive and then you realize it has to do all that without a pilot... on the moon... of another planet... without a maintenance crew... or even a single runway in its whole life. The more you think about this thing, the more you start to realize that it isn't impressive as a design feature. It's impressive as a necessity.
A near Earth sized spheroid with seas of Hydrocarbons . The future gas station should humanity actually manage to not kill itself before Earth runs out of resources .
I'm wondering why they didn't make the rotor drone capable of taking samples from the lakes and analyze them. Seems that would be easier due to the fact that it can hover. Why would they not just include that? I'm sure there's some logical or logistical reason why but it's not obvious.
I would stay away from the name titan for anything having to do with any kind of body of water for obvious reasons based on recent events that turned into a tragic disaster.
I really liked the movie "Life" where a team of astronauts collected an alien fossil sample from Mars... which killed them all and made it to Earth. Yeah... oh, sorry, wrong topic here!
the inflatable wings bother me. Isn't that making it very vulnerable? can they maybe fill it with some gas that can be triggered to turn into some sort of foam with a chemical reaction?

Number two priority, make sure it doesn't come with Logitech controller!
Good to know we'll have a plane when we get there next week.

Wow they have allocated the amount that a single cruise missile costs to discovering life on another world.
Glad we've got our priorities straight!

Imagine if they had the amount of money we've already given to Ukraine

Titan’s atmosphere is 1.5 times denser (50%) than our own, not four times (400%).

Tomato, tomatto. Potato, potatto. Let's call the whole thing off.
This "Craft of the Future" TitanAir, bears an absolutely astonishing likeness to the Handley Page Victor Circa 1952... ;-)
"Hyoogens"? Crivens. I was prepared to endure "mair", but seriously?
You know what happens when samples on a far planet or moon undergo tests by a suite of instruments? They reach inconclusive results.

A uav blimp would seem like a better idea, especially considering the density of the atmosphere.
A blimp would be difficult, as Titan is so cold gases sit very low, plus the maneuverability aspect. Titan is made to get in nice and close.
I read a paper a while ago regarding microbial life existing within liquid methane in storage tanks. Apparently they are what cause fuels to break down.
15:40 "Titan Submarine", where have I heard that before...
sooowww. Anyone considering what would happen if we lit that Methane? Maybe get some o-zone going. Warm the place up a bit. plant some trees. . .
If NASA would put Halliburton in charge of the project they would fund it and figure a way to get the Methane back to Earth and still turn a profit

Unexpectedly powerful ending, that

Exactly what I came here to say! 👍
And me
just a fart from my small brain, wouldn't Titan essentially be the equivalent of a balloon filled with gasoline waiting for a spark?
It'd also have to wait for an awful lot of oxygen. You can set off a spark in any combustible gas or vapour, but if there is nothing for it (gas or vapour) to react with, nothing will much happen.
I think we need to retire the ‘titan’ moniker from being used to name anything to do with bodies of fluids
Not gonna lie, I saw the words titan and lakes and my brain immediately read exploding instead of exploring.
Wait, what about Bruce Willis at the end of Sixth Sense!?

For inflatable wings they could look to the old Goodyear "airmat" (inflatable planes). perhaps it could be fabricated of low temperature materials.

Question, methane is very flammable. Wouldn't a spark start a major explosion?
Wouldn’t the paper towel plane also filter out the organic? i dont think titan submarine is a good idea, with what happened to the last titan sub
