I ended up moving in 2020 so didn't get many seasons to test it out. That said, I've been experimenting with other wetland projects and ponds. My take is the acreage required is really arbitrary. I've come across so many little pots holes (well under 1-acre), often surrounded by woods, that are holding tons of mallards, woodies, teal, etc. I think the bigger factor is whether or not there are birds in your area. You could build a 40 acre flooded corn field but if there's no birds around, obviously it's not going to be effective. Sure bigger is better but you have to work with the land you have and your budget. Best of luck! I've really had fun with these projects.
@@chancewadsworth2745 last fall was a bust. This spring has been a huge success. Variety of birds in there every day. See my most recent videos for more details.
What if I dig a 2-4 food 1 acre pond and then feed it directly by connecting it to the river my property borders like a miniature bay, will that work? I live im the Alabama river delta
Sounds like it might depending on what you're trying to accomplish. Most of the people you talk to with lots of experience bring up the challenge with getting things dry enough to re-plant. Need to be thinking about how to set up for easy draw down and ability to re-flood.
Hey Ted, I planted 10 acres of Milo... broadleafs (cockleburr) is starting to take over. You have any luck in spraying? Or other methods dealing with broadleafs?
How attractive was it to the ducks because I am building one about half a acre and a couple of the videos I watched said I need at least 2

@ thank you
Curious to see how this turns out. Also in Minnesota and have the dream to buy a little land and do the same.
It's looking good right now. Much of the food plot is four feet tall already. I just closed the water control structure to start capturing water.
Bob awesome, keep up the good work
@@TedMinnesota did you get ducks in the impoundment? did the ducks find it?

Ducks are long gone. We were basically frozen across the state by Thanksgiving this year.
